A teen who has been missing since the end of November finally came out of hiding and called her mother to say she's safe.
Alayna Rinebold, 15, has been missing since Nov. 21.
Her mother, Leigh Ann Jackson, had a 13-minute telephone conversation with her missing daughter last week -- their first conversation since the night she left. "She said she is safe," Jackson said Wednesday afternoon, "and she is aware of all her surroundings."
In the conversation, Alayna assured her mother she is not doing drugs and isn't out partying.
But the missing teen told her mother she's not coming home any time soon.
The Fremont police have been handling the case, and according to Jackson, they believe there is a reason she hasn't been found yet.
"Police think she's been getting information she shouldn't get, and that's what's been keeping her one step ahead of everybody," Jackson said.
Sgt. Jim White of the Fremont Police Department could not be reached Wednesday afternoon.
Jackson said that she thinks Alayna left with someone she knows.
"I want to get her home and get her counseling," Jackson said. "She has a whole network of people that will help her get through these difficult times if she allows them to. ... We love her and want her to come home."
An Amber Alert cannot be released because Alayna left voluntarily.
If there is any information on the whereabouts of Alayna Rinebold, contact the Fremont Police Department at (419) 332-6464.
