A little more info. It happened in Yorba Linda. Looks like the father did it.

Police responded and found a dead female lying on the porch of the home. Once they gained entrance they found the 14-year-old boy who was still alive but had been shot. He was taken to a local hospital.
Police discovered the bodies of a nine-year-old girl, an eight-year-old girl and a five year-old boy. They also found the body of an adult male.

So sad, but how does one shoot himself with a shotgun?

Big toe? Strong string rig-up? ETA: There have been cases where people have managed to pull a shotgun's trigger and suicide that way.

Yes - I know I have read several cases like that, but can't think of any off the top of my head. What a tragic tragic story. My prayers that the teenager pulls through.

How sad. That poor 14 yr old is left without any of his family but I'm glad that he didn't die too. He didn't do it did he? I don't want to think that but he is the only one that was just wounded. I hope he didn't but with all of the kids these days murdering their whole families it is just hard to tell. He's young so if he did do it LE will get to the bottom of it.

I wonder what this family was like. Did the dad lose his job...why would he do this...wife left him or going to? Was there a reason? Awful

I'm sure LE is questioning the 14 year old now. He should be able to tell them everything that happened.

I know a guy that did this and lost half his face and his eye. Not a pretty sight. He was however grateful he lived. This is so sad for this family.

So sad. I will never understand how people lose it and feel that the whole family should suffer too.

LE has not released the names as of yet, pending notification of family members. I will never understand why a man would want kill his entire family and himself. Was he in a rage, was it drug use or was he suffering with depression? Like many, I want to know what would cause a father/husband to commit such a crime? I'm hoping that the 14 year old can shed some light as to what was going on in their lives. The City of Yorba Linda, CA is a upper-middle class to wealthy. I hope a family member will see to it that this child gets counseling. My prayers to this child.
