I heard on the local news Damien will be in court on April 14th, though I am not exactly sure why. Since I live in Jonesboro, I am going to try and attend the hearing.

*It now says both sides have filed a motion to have the date extended.

Saavy,
Thanks for the heads up. I will be out of town that week but I definitely take my laptop.

Sounds promising, at least something seems to be moving in the case, and all the evidence is being looked at again,

hopefully one way or the other the truth will finally come out,

Yes, White Rain, here is the latest.

Judge in West Memphis Slayings 'Ready to Get it Over With'

The trial judge in the case of three men accused as teenagers of killing three West Memphis second graders said in an appeal hearing today almost 15 years after the convictions that he is "ready to get it over with."

~~~SNIP~~~
Circuit Judge David Burnett began the brief hearing before five lawyers for Damien Echols, Jason Baldwin, and Jessie Misskelley. Burnett said he would set aside three weeks to hear the appeal, most likely in September. Each defendant would have one week.
Well, it does seem like things are moving forward. Hopefully, new trials will be granted!
"Ready to get it over with" doesn't sound very appealing to Damien's side. :(
Yep, I so agree. That was my first thought when I seen the headline.
Ooohhhh, c2cd208.... :( I'm in Ohio. I'd love to meet you too!
I ran across the dvd's (Paradise) and was intrigued by this case. I haven't read all the court records and I am torn apart as to who is guilty and who is innocent.
Maybe someday we can meet! :blowkiss:
I must have read it wrong sorry! LOL I was tired last night and for some reason in my ever increasing scattered mind I somehow thought you were in Jonesboro! LOL Well if I ever do get to Ohio again I will be looking you up. I used to travel all over, now I do not make it much more than a 300 mile radius of home. :doh: Sometimes I really miss traveling, other times I love being at home.
Back to the subject at hand now, so we have to wait until September to hear anymore about this case?
I hope the Judge comes to the appeal with an open mind, and listens carefully to all the evidence
I live in Memphis and remember this. I have watched the movies and seen interviews. I have mixed emotions on this, but I really believe these 3 boys got railroaded because they "looked different". Supposedly one or two of these boys are considered "slow", but they were clever enough to murder these boys and not leave evidence they were there. Come on, really. After seeing interviews with Byers, I believe he has something to do with this, and didn't his wife die "suddenly"
I really hope that truth will prevail.
I can see that. I'm remaining cautiously optimistic that the get it over with comment wasn't intended that way, but it's hard to tell.
Hey all you wonderful Websleuths!
I've been watching this case for awhile... Saw the movies a few years ago and felt outraged by it and have followed it since...
Isn't Judge Burnett the same judge that sat at the original trials... do they have to always have the same judge? Isn't that a conflict of interest??
There is so much corruption in this case... it's just unbelievable... they just sacrificed these boys.
IIRC, the prosecutor said something similar and it made me furious.
This Judge should step aside because in my eyes he is only making himself look like a bigger arse than he was back than.With those types of comments how can one hope for any justice.I am betting the Judge and prosecutor from the trials cannot for one second say they have never even fleetingly thought,did we make a mistake.God help those boys.
Yes, it is the same judge, same prosecutor...The cover-up and corruption continue.
IMO, a new judge needs to hear the appeal. This judge has already made up his mind.
