I found this on the wiki site......

John Mark Byers' knife gift
John Mark Byers, the adoptive father of victim Christopher Byers, gave a knife to cameraman Doug Cooper,[37] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/West_Memphis_3#_note-31) who was working with documentary makers Joe Berlinger (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joe_Berlinger) and Bruce Sinofsky while they were filming the first Paradise Lost (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paradise_Lost:_The_Child_Murders_at_Robin_Hood_Hil ls) feature. The knife was a small utility-type knife, manufactured by Kershaw.[38] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/West_Memphis_3#_note-32)[39] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/West_Memphis_3#_note-33) According to the statements given by Berlinger and Sinofsky, Cooper informed them of his receipt of the knife on December 19, 1993. After the documentary crew returned to New York, Berlinger and Sinofsky reported to have discovered what appeared to be blood on the knife.

I don't think I had ever heard this before. Did anyone else know about this??

Yes, it's shown in the film Paradise Lost. Have you seen it?

I have seen bits and pieces of it. It was on pay tv here, but I missed bit cos it was on a night when the kids were sick.

Amazing, isn't it? The Byers knife is one of those things nobody would believe if it appeared in a work of fiction. This case is full of such oddities.

You are so right Nova! Of course, for Arkansas it's normal.

I still think Byers had something to do with the murders. When he was asked about the knife, I think he had three different stories. But, the police or the prosecutor never followed up.

O/T...Nova, check your PMs, please.

There is so many weird things about this case. Has anyone ever written a list of odd things? Do alot of odd things make mean that these 3 kids didn't do the crime?

Is it true that when a jury decides on the guilt of someone they must decide beyond a reasonable doubt? Or is that just movie stuff?

Aussie_mum, this is just my opinion, but I think in this case both juries were swayed by the "satanic" part of the case. Common sense flew out the window! They wanted to avenge the three boys who died, and that is understandable, however, I feel in this case the wrong people were convicted.

There are so many odd things about this case, whenever I think about it, it makes my head hurt.

I used to really think Damien, Jason, and Jessie were guilty. I did research and discovered my initial thoughts were wrong. Now, I just hope these three can get justice and at the very least get new trials.

I think you're right, Tez. If we were to take the whole satanic part out of the original trials, I bet we'd have seen a different outcome. The prosecution had an expert witness who got his degree at a now defunct diploma mill for pete's sake.

Yeah, and he embezzled over 30 grand from Craighead County too!

I think we would have seen totally different outcomes. I just hope and pray these three can get new trials.
