"This was truly an international effort, and we will do all we can to ensure Laurean is brought back to Onslow County (North Carolina) as quickly as possible to answer the charges against him."

But Onslow County District Attorney Dewey Hudson immediately cautioned Thursday night that "it could be a year or two" for authorities to bring Laurean back to North Carolina if he decides to fight the extradition process.

"The extradition process is one where you have a right to appeal," Hudson told The Associated Press. "I have no idea whether he would waive extradition.

The last I knew she was confined to base. She was a Marine reservist but the USMC called her back to active duty and confined her to base at Camp LeJeune. I am confirming with MC ties right now. Apparently her sister is a Marine also and her sister's husband. To Be confirmed. Will update.

Whether he was going AWOL and both of them were to be in Mexico, or whether he was sending Maria to be with his family until after the baby was born and he could join her, I'm still not sure. But seems fesible.

Let justice prevail! I hope it's not a long extradiction, and the trial can start within a few months!!!

The Marine Corps dropped the ball on Maria Lauterbach's rape case. So I would not be surprised in the least if they have dropped the rape charges.

The Marine Corps need to be charged with obstruction of justice in their handling of Maria's rape and murder. They should certainly not be permitted to handle (i.e.drop) the murder charges. No way.

The Eastern District of North Carolina is the circuit court which encompasses Onslow County. It has nothing whatsoever, at all, to do with the military.

Speaking to The Associated Press after his arrest, Cesar Laurean was asked if he wanted to say anything. He said "Proof," but wouldn't explain. Asked what he would do next, he answered, "Do I have a choice?...I don't know."

Laurean is charged with murder in the death of fellow Marine Maria Lauterbach , whose burned remains and those of her fetus were found in January in his backyard in North Carolina. Lauterbach had earlier accused Laurean of rape.

The FBI says it hopes Laurean can be brought back to the U.S. as quickly as possible. But a prosecutor in North Carolina says it could be a year or two before Laurean returns if he fights extradition.

Laurean was arrested Thursday night after a three-month search.

I have followed this case very closely, but have not seen this before. Are you saying that it was known beforehand that he had purchased a ticket from Houston to Potosi? Do you have a link?

Because the only prior suggestion that he was in Mexico which has been published was that one of his cousins had spotted him in a liquor store. Not very reliable. But a bus ticket to the town he was captured in? That is really Un-believable.

I am thrilled. I knew it would happen one day. jIf ever the time was right to tell the truth, for Cesar Laurean, It is now. He needs to tell exactly what happened and go before a jury of his peers and let them decide this case and deliver the punishment. I don't know what to think about Christina though. I know they are married and I think she must believe his story of what happened to Maria. I don't believe she had anything to do with Maria's death. I think she whole heartedly believes his story. And while many are convinced she was involved, I'm not. The ploice I guarentee you know a heck of alot more than they have said. I do believe she thinks what her husband told her is the truth. Hey There Seriously Searching, I think we are missing some big pieces to this puzzle. But about the blood..she may have seen it..but then again, he could have told her what I suggested in the last post...I realize what you're saying but I still think Christina truly believes her husband is innocent in this. I think there is a strong possibility that she wasn't there when he killed her. I think like this...she was so destroyed by his being unfaithful...seems like if she was present when he killed her...she still wouldn't be writing in her letters how destroyed she was about him being unfaithful...seems like she would feel like he loved her more since he killed for her. About the items he bought to bury Maria with...I am not convinced at all that she knew those items were going to be used to bury a body....there are pieces missing to this story.

I don't read Spanish, myself, but I do know that CNN has a bureau in Mexico and that the bureau chief himself (don't remember his name at the moment) was the first to interview Laurean's cousin at his market after Cesar stopped by with a couple other guys to "say Hi!"

I was so scared....I didn't know what to do...

This is such great news. It sounds like there were two agencies and then the Marines looking for him. Someone from the FBI said that they had all been working together from day one. Of course the FBI is going to take credit for catching him! They always do even if it wasn't actually them who captured the criminal.

I think that the wife is fully aware of what happened to Maria and who did it. I think she was at the marines party but she came home and there was the mess and Maria and her car. She is probably proud of her husband for showing Maria who he loved more and may even believe that Maria got just what she deserved. It's hard to tell.

I think his statement to the reporter "I loved her" goes right along with "proof." If he loved Maria how could anyone think that he killed her and they have to have proof that it was him that killed her is what I think he is saying. Well buddy, it was either you or your wife. Innocent people don't run.

I would guess that he had family helping him out with places to stay and food. It's really cheap to live in Mexico so it wouldn't take much for him to live pretty well. I wonder if the wife was sending him money.

Have I missed something here? The reports say he fled to his native country, ie, Mexico. If he came from Mexico, how come he can't speak Spanish? Even if he moved to the USA as a child, you'd think he would pick up Spanish from hearing it at home all the time.

Maybe they meant his Spanish had an strong accent. Like when an American watches the BBC. (I have to have close captioning to understand the British) Or a Yankee having trouble understanding someone from the deep rural South.

English can be hard to understand spoken by someone from a part of the world other than where you grew up. I imagine Spanish is the same.

SieSie, the pic retouching was so cheesy and unprofessional, IMO. However, it does look like the captured Cesar pic. I am always amazed at the talents of Ws'ers. And they do it on nothing more than a cranky computer and store bought or freeware software. Ws'ers also have very sharp eyes as evidenced in info they can pic out from surveillance tapes and photos long before LE or the media has.
