I always thought that the baby who was put in the furnace was stillborn or died not long after birth. I read in an article that this man said "I'm not a monster." :steamed: From what I have read this poor woman, her mother and her children seem to be very loving and supportive of each other so hopefully they will be able to build new happy lives for themselves.

I'm so confused by the information about the twin baby. Everything says he was responsible for the babies death and that he threw the body into the furnace. That comment is always followed by a comment that they are trying to figure out if the baby could have been saved. There is more to the story. The baby must have been born to early or with health problems severe enough that they argue whether the baby could have even survived. Soooo sad.

I've thought about it and regardless of whether of not the baby was stillborn (God I hope so) or murdered he was still responsible for the death. If the baby was stillborn the death may never had occured if the mother had prenatal care. It could have been a treatable problem that killed this baby. Or if the baby had been born in a hospital medical care may have saved the little one. This man's horrific actions resulted in the child being conceived and then his depavity kept the baby and his/her mother from any form of medical care. What an evil, evil man. He will have to answer to God one day.

it looks on a previous story, that Elisabeth has "kicked" her mother out of their hospital/home... guess she (Elisabeth) doesn't believe her mother KNEW NOTHING!!!!

I don't think its petty, I beleive that she has the right to feel that way. After all she could be resenting her mom for having it so easy and looking after her kids. She could also be resenting her mom for not protecting her, eventhough we know the mom had no clue.

There ALL victims in my opinion.

That CNN article has some interesting things in it - looks like he will spend life in prison regardless but I thought this was interesting, from a list of the charges and their penalties:

"Withdrawal of liberty: Three of the children Fritzl had with Elisabeth were illegally held captive in a dungeon with no daylight or fresh air, according to prosecutors. That charge carries a sentence of one to 10 years."

One to ten years for illegally holding three children captive in a dungeon seems like a pretty light punishment, don't you think? :behindbar

Had she not done that, none of this would have happened.

I doubt that she could smell food cooking coming from the basement, they had many tenants. A neighbor did say he saw her helping Fritzl carry food to the basement.

Also, Fritzl had imprisoned his mother in a room with a boarded-up window. As I recall, that was going on while he was married to Rosemarie. I can see why she doesn't want to testify. I think she knew.

But here is a man who after hearing his daughters testimony and then she has the strength and courage to actually come to the court room, maybe he's had enough and owned up to the beast that he is?

BTW, I think Elisabeth must have phenomenal psychiatrists to be so strong after not even a year. That must have felt so powerful to face her father and hold her head high. I like to think she'll do far better than I ever could of imagined. I only hope the children are coping as well or better!

There was that girl in Japan (she wasn't in a dungeon, but she was in a single room for years), that girl who escaped when her abductor was washing his car, that girl from Oregon who lived under a bed for years, and many, many others. In my own state there was a man who had an underground bunker in the woods, and when he attempted to abduct a girl it was discovered. It boggles the mind, and these are just the ones we hear about.
