After reading the affidavit of Ray Gagnon, I have a sick, terrible, feeling about this case. I'm no longer optimistic that Brooke is alive. :(

I also want to add that I feel really sorry for AR. Her life has to be ruined. To sexualize this young child and to force her to engage in all sorts of sexual acts with adult men and take photos and also take photos of a boyfriend and her engaged in sex is just sick. I wonder if she can be helped. What the he!! is wrong with her mother??

I agree..AR's life is basically going to be a struggle dealing with what has happened to her. I do not believe for one *&$(&*Q@()#*!@ second the mother, Denise, didn't have some clue this was going on in her home.

Gagnon is now at where I used to work in St.Albans being held. (I worked in 2 differnent facilities during my years in Corrections and he was in the other one I worked in last night)
He is being held in the Federal detaining unit there and is in a single cell.
He is not allowed in general population and his movements out of his cell are limited.

Apparently, they had something in store for Brooke because Jacques was staging the runaway scene by posting a message on her blog the day before she went missing (6/24). What I want to know is why he dropped her off at the convenience store? Was this part of the "Breckenridge" ploy? Did he just leave her there and then pick her up? If so, how much later?

You could tell that she was in a defensive mode with her arms crossed in the convenience store. It reminded me of poor little Shasta with that sicko Duncan.

I agree with you, NAJ. The MS posting on 6/24 and his manually changing the date to 6/25 is very damning evidence proving premeditation. Her body language in the video stood out like a sore thumb to show discomfort in the situation, IMO. I agree totally with you.

A maple sugar house is just a small building where they have a fire going under a huge container that holds the maple sap from the trees. The sap is boiled and reduced to syrup. Many homeowners tap the maple trees on their property and make their own homemade maple syrup. :)

Maybe I'm reading it wrong, but Jacques was last seen w/Brooke in his home by AR after they went upstairs. AR was told to leave shortly afterward. So I think Jacques is the main culprit. Gagnon appears to have been in TX that morning and probably did the myspace comment or blog changes.

The myspace comment quoted in the Gagnon affidavit is so fake to me. (snippet) "They say ur first is the one u always want and that's u baby! This girl don't sneak out of the house at 2 in the morning for just any man! OMG if only people knew me 4 real!"

I'm pretty sure that was all part of the premeditation in this girls disappearance, which means at least Jacques was going to kidnap her and move her alive somewhere...or just kill her. I wonder if she threatened to tell seeing as she probably was well-informed about perverts by her dad?

It takes boiling a lot of sap from maple trees to reduce it to maple syrup. They only do this in the winter months and early spring when the sap is flowing. So, a sugar house wouldn't be in use at this time of the year.

WCAX does not air at 5. They do at 6.

It's very easy to blame the victim or the victim's parents in a crime like this. Granted, the mom was apparently 'surrounded' by these types which indicates one or two things: first, that she traveled in that circle and was a party to it; or secondly, that she was in fact naive and a person so in need of love and affirmation that she may have turned a blind eye to any obvious (or not so obvious) warning signs.

My guess is that she's the latter, eager for help and support provided to her by predators. These men seek out a certain type; they have a radar that finds these types of women, manipulates them, and takes advantage of them.

I'll reserve my final opinion of Brook's mom until after all the facts have come out. It's just sad that with this type of environment that poor girl never stood a chance.

I was looking more to see if John and Kevin lived near each other to see if they could be related, but no such luck. There is a Jon in TX (spelled without the H, and also has L for his middle initial).

I think that they are both involved in her murder. I have heard on the media (which is inaccurate half of the time) that Gagnon was spotted in the area the day of Brooke's disappearance. So, he could have been at Jacques' house. This could be another reason that he told AR to leave the house.

How can people who work in law enforcement stand this? I was a dispatcher for a few years in a small Nevada police station. Nothing like what officers and detectives and investigators do, but close enough to see what they do...day after day after day. All that hard work and all those emotions and then to have the courts let the perv go to offend again! It's just so heartbreaking....sorry for the rant...

I know that kidnapping, murder, dealing in obscene material, obstruction of justice, are all covered under the RICO act. I'm not sure if the "group" of pervs would qualify as racketeering, legally, although IMO, they are certainly a qualified sex ring and should be eligible for RICO prosecutiion.

I agree he was complicit in some way. But I do not believe he was physically in Vermont at the time of her death. This is fortunate because it motivated him to rat out Jacques. He is a criminal - no doubt about that. But I don't think that he was present when Jacques raped and killed Brooke.

RICO does not provide a death penalty. It is primarily for economic crimes - not murder. Some hitmen get caught up in RICO prosecutions, but if they go to death row it is because of state law murder charges.

I can't help but think that they both were in cahoots and were somehow going to abduct Brooke. There would be no other reason to post that message the day BEFORE her disappearance. Jacques was setting it up to look like an Internet abduction. Maybe, he was doing this just in case she threatened to tell and he decided to kill her.

I just cannot see Gagnon agreeing to get involved in a murder coverup unless this is the tip of the iceberg for both of them. I just have to shake my head. You mean to tell me that Brooke's mother and AR's mother knew or suspected nothing. You will never get me to believe that AR's mother did not know that something was going on with all of those (neon) signs at her house.

How do you know that he ratted out Jacques? It sounds like investigators pieced it together using information gathered from the computer and from cell phone records.

The Occupation of Corrections Officers and Law Enforcement run in my family. Some have since retired and some are still working in those fields here and in other states.
I worked for a police department prior to becoming a Correctional Officer.

At least, I got to read it here first before I heard it on the news. It is heartwrenching and my prayers go out to Jim, Janet, and her siblings.

I will say an extra prayer for AR. For the courage shown by her telling the truth and allowing Brooke to come home to the family who truly loves her, I applaud her. I hope she gets the help she needs to come to terms with all that has happened.
