.

Now and then we have to remember with as many new members we have that our every day lingo becomes like a maze to them. Since people are lost on these and asking...here you go! Seasoned posters can feel free to add their own since I will probably forget half of them.

LE= Law Enforcement
POI= Person Of Interest
COD= Cause Of Death
TOD= Time OF Death
ITA= I Totally Agree
POS= Piece of Sh*t (Reserved for a known perp, suspect, or POI)
IIRC= If I Recall Correctly
FWIW= For What Its Worth
COB= POS The story behind this is on the Jessie Davis case, someone meant to type COP in reference to Bobby Cutts, Jr. and it came out COB. We called him that for the rest of the case and now it had become synonymous with POS.
OT= Off Topic
WTH= What The Hell? (Usually reserved for frustration in understanding what is taking place within a certain situation...such as in this case. I see it a lot when discussing Casey Anthony.)
GMAB= Give Me A Break

It scares me more than that freaky thing on the beach in long Island!

Isn't that the weirdest looking creature you've ever seen? I listened to the news today and they are trying to say it's a raccoon. I call BS. I've seen many raccoons in my life and that thing is NO KIN!

It looks like a Koala bear mixed with a dog.

BS=This isn't Bull Snot.
PITA=Pain In The Arse.

Over in thread 45, a poster referred to Casey as Miss Pinnochio :liar:

Then a few folks joked that MP would be the perfect name for Casey. In a way, I hope it doesn't take off, because I can forsee 300 people posting: 'Wait a sec! Who's MP??' And then another 300 responses. :)

Anyway, I thought I'd crosspost it to the lingo thread.

MP=Miss Pinnochio=Casey. LOL (Laugh Out Loud)!

BTW, one common lingo term I have never quite figured out is ROFL, sometimes with more letters. I know it means to laugh really hard, but what do the letters stand for? Thanks! :)

ROFL=rolling on floor laughing, ROFLMAO-rolling on floor laughing my arse off.

Can someone explain to me what "bump" means? Like "I am bumping this post".

It took me such a long time to figure out what LE stood for! All the other abbreviations take me a while to figure out too, unless they're obvious.

I just figured out now that BH stands for bounty hunters.

Sometimes it's so hard to figure out, unless you read every single thread, every day.

LULZ is a bastardized form of LOL, but around the Net it is usually used in a somewhat sarcastic manner. It can be used as a verb (i.e. I did it for the LULZ) or often as more of a 'snickering' type of laugh.

We don't see it much around here - and I kind of like that.

Here is a net definition from the encyclopedia dramatica:

lulz Noun --- lul-zz
Definition:
1.the act of entertaining oneself with the misfortune of others; an agreeable occupation for the mind
2.something affording pleasure, diversion, or amusement, esp. a performance of some kind

Usage:
I did it for the lulz

Synonyms:
Entertainment

And is almost universally associated with engaging in disruptive or destructive behavior, such as defacing a website or causing a DOS (Denial Of Service) condition on someone else's equipment. So thanks M&E for bringing this issue to my attention. Looks like we needed it.

While we are asking questions, who is Mac and Ernie?

Hope it is OK to post this link here. I sometimes have to keep this site as a tab for quick reference to internet slang. I have found it most helpful. I found it in an article for parents who want to decipher their children's text and other online messages.

Thank you for the translations and resources. I'm new to forums in general and I was really amused when I kept seeing MOO. I thought it was a particular poster's way of showing disapproval when various characters dipped and dived around the truth. It took me a couple of months to see it was an acronym but now I know what it means along with IIRC. Holy Moly .. that one was a puzzle.

hi tenaj23... and welcome!!! just a guess but prob. to differentiate b/w casey and her mom and daughter. having too many CA's in this forum would make reading very confusing. i couldn't figure it out either when i started reading about the case here (i was a late-comer to the caylee case)... but i asked tricia and she cleared it up. I noticed a couple of other posts asking about this and had wondered myself - why is Tony L sometimes referred to as TonE? It's kind of hard to search on it but what little I found seemed to indicate that he referred to himself as "TonE" instead of "Tony" on his MySpace. Is that it? Took me the longest time to figure out who was being talked about there.

Yes, because his myspace name was TonE when this all started, so everyone just started calling him that until it got more formal and initialed around here.

So whenever you're reading TL, tony and TonE is all the same person.

It took me such a long time to figure out what LE stood for! All the other abbreviations take me a while to figure out too, unless they're obvious.

I just figured out now that BH stands for bounty hunters.

Sometimes it's so hard to figure out, unless you read every single thread, every day.
