At least hubby reported it right away. Maybe he didn't do it. That would be a relief if it weren't for the fact that she is still missing. Poor kids, so little, still!

here's the earlier charlotte observer story:

Lenoir police, sheriff's deputies, and the N.C. Highway Patrol are involved in the search, including the use of search planes.
Police say Pennell was driving a white 1994 Toyota pickup truck with N.C. license tag GBAYCAM.
Pennell is described as a white female, 5 feet 1 and 120 pounds, with brown hair and hazel eyes. She was wearing blue jeans, a blue blouse with a floral design, and white tennis shoes. She has a tattoo on her left foot with the words “Gracelyn and Cameron.”

BUFFALO COVE, N.C. -- A 21-year-old wife and mother of two disappeared Wednesday night after work and hasn’t been seen since.
Now, Caldwell County deputies plus Amber Pennell’s friends and family members are searching for her.
Pennell’s routine while working at Hannah’s Barbeque in Lenoir is calling her husband to let him know she’s leaving.
She made that call Wednesday night and left work around 10 p.m. She also told her husband she needed to stop for gas.
She never made it home.

She never made it home.
Family, friends and investigators say they have no reason to believe the 21-year-old disappeared on purpose. They do not suspect foul play, but at this time say anything is possible.
Investigators checked the gas station surveillance video but for now it’s unclear whether or not Pennell stopped.
Her route home, Highway 268 and Stone Mountain Road, is once of the county's most rugged.
It is filled with twists, turns, loose gravel, unmarked pavement and little room for error. One concern is Pennell might have crashed.

Sounds like she was a careful woman, calling each time she left work. I wonder if she has a cellphone? I wouldn't want to be out that late on a treacherous road wothout one!

New clue in search for Caldwell missing mother

Amber Pennell disappeared Wednesday night while driving home from work.

Authorities say they have surveillance video of Pennell leaving a Wal-Mart. It’s helping them trace her last known whereabouts as they continue to search for her.

The sheriff's office says the 21-year-old mother of two was driving a pickup truck that she was unfamiliar with. They're afraid she ran off the road.

Woman, missing 5 days, found alive in ravine

A Caldwell County mother who disappeared five days earlier was found alive Monday night at the bottom of a ravine in her wrecked pickup truck, 100 feet off U.S. 321.
A search team found Amber Clarke Pennell after following muddy tire tracks down a kudzu-covered ravine where her Toyota apparently crashed on her way home from work on the night of Aug. 20, said Detective B.J. Fore.
With a broken leg and internal injuries, Pennell was able to speak with rescuers, who found her about 8 p.m.
“They would not give up,” Fore said. “They wanted to try one more time so they could finish before it started raining again.”

Authorities say Pennell's car crossed the center line and veered off Highway 321 north of Lenoir, falling 75-80 feet into a ravine.

Caldwell County Emergency Management workers and sheriff's deputies were searching Monday evening when one of them found her. She was dehydrated but able to talk to rescue workers.
Pennell was pulled up from the ravine in a rescue basket and flown to Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte.
Investigators believe Pennell's car went airborne, and that's why it was hard to see where it left the roadway

I just have this feeling that Amber stayed alive by thinking about her babies.

I'm SOOOOO glad that she is okay. I can't imagine what she went through, what her family went through.

I saw her recovery on TV today. It's amazing that she was down there for 5 days and survived. They said that she had a broken leg and internal injuries. That she is in serious condition. Her husband just cried and was so thankful that she was found. Everyone there gave the credit to the Lord for her being found. It was pretty neat.
