I thought you all would find this interesting since several of us were talking about wanting to get AL's newest book, Deadly Dose. I just met Amanda for the first time at JJ the other day and found her to be a truly dedicated person, not only at her job as a reporter but in finding the truth about unsolved murders. After emailing with her today about NC I am even more impressed that she manages to find time to do even the littlest things like email with me back and forth!
Here is a where you will find some information about her new book.

Also there's a really neat video of her on the Today Show being interviewed about her first book, Smotherhood: Wickedly Funny Confessions From the Early Years.

I went to her book signing and got her and Detective Chris Morgan to autograph my book. I even asked Detective Morgan if he would considered coming back from etirement to work on Michelle Young's case. Both he and Amanda are very approachable and dedicated people. The book is very good. When someone else reads it please post your thoughts about it here. I'd be interested in discussing it with you.

I just finished reading DD. I enjoyed it, I would really like to meet Detective Morgan! The book provided real insight into the dynamics/politics that define the police/district attorney relationship. It was an aha moment for me, i.e. that's why we still don't have an indictment in the Michelle Young case. What did Morgan say when you asked him about working on Michelle's case? Wish Amanda would write a book about all of the murdered wives/mothers we have had in Triangle (NC, Janet Abaroa, Michelle Young, and Jennifer ** {sorry I've drawn a blank on her last name, you know the young pregnant woman murdered while delivering USA today to convenience stores}).
Just a bit of trivia about the Ann Miller case, I have a good friend that works in the lab where Ann worked. She said that AM had attempted to snare several other men in the lab unsuccessfully. She finally approached Derek W who was in my friend's words, "a lab geek". She says he was balding, a little overweight, pretty quiet and was probably just so flattered to be noticed. To me, his is as much a victim of AM as was Eric. He and his wife had struggled to have a child, have overcome some marital difficulties, according to my friend, and now she is raising their child alone. AM is pure evil.

I think your friend probably at one point in time spoke to Amanda Lamb and Chris Morgan. Or there is more than one in the lab who realized how AM worked. At the book signing, AM's behaviour at work was discussed and your freind's description is dead on with what was discussed. AM was true evil walking round on this earth. Poor Derril didn't know what hit him and by the time he figured it out, his whole world was crumbling. He was another victim of AM just as his wife and child.
Chris Morgan is a tall heavy set man the wears a fedora with style :-) I think he has one in every color. He has a saying about cases (the ones he was unable to solve while he was still working). He says cases "grind his gut". When I asked him about Michelle's case and if he would consider coming out of retirement to help he said "those boys know how to find me" with a quick little grin. When I asked him if he thought Jason killed Michelle he said "hell yeah, no doubt about it." When I asked him if he thought we would ever get justice for Michelle he said "that case just grinds my gut. It keeps me up at night". I didn't take that as a very positive sign....
He's a very friendly man but he demands respect and has an air of authority about him. Says his hardest case was Stephanie Bennett because he retired right before the case was solved and he was not a part of the resolution for her family.
ETA - Ann's lover's name was Derril not Derek. I corrected the spelling of Derril also.

Great idea for a thread on this Topsail.
I am so impressed that you met and talked with Chris Morgan. I absolutely love that guy!
I read the book a few months ago. Sad to say, I think Ann Miller would still be walking around if it wasn't for Willard committing suicide and his lawyer being ordered by the Court to devulge incriminating info.
It was a very good read. Was an eye opener :eek:with respect to certain players, some of whom are involved in the Michelle Young case.
Wow! Looks like I'm going to have to get Amanda's book and read it. I have no idea what case you all are talking about.
Glad you had a chance to talk to Amanda and the detective. Chilling what he said about Michelle's case. I sooo hope they solve it. Soon! I hate the idea of that piece of........ walking around free. He planned it, pure and simple. It's all in the recently released documents.
There's too many of these guys that do get away with it. We don't always know about it, because the only perfect crime is when no crime is detected. LOTS of those! :(

For what it's worth the book is good and it is the case of Ann and Eric Miller. She poisoned him, had multiple affairs, planned his death and caused hm to suffer tremendously before death. All the while believing she was smart enough to get away with it because she was well educated and successful. Besides she was attractive and had no problem getting men, married or not. Does it sound like a couple of other murderers we know?

Mom come let us know your impression of Amanda's book when you get finished reading it. I'd love to hear some of your thoughts and impressions about the case overall. Also about how the DA handled it and how Rick Gammon handled his situation.
