I just read this post (http://websleuths.com/forums/showthread.php?p=2617132#post2617132) from soyesterday in the Up to the Minute forum, and it gives me hope that if Benjaman can get more media attention, someone might recognize him.

Here's a quote from the article at foxnews.com (http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,416485,00.html):
Turns out 71-year-old Delaney had been in a care facility since 2000, after suffering a head injury and memory loss, the Mail reported. Unable to give any clues as to his identity, Delaney was given the name David Harrison and placed in a home.

In April Delaney was featured on a TV show about missing persons.

By coincidence, Renehan was watching and recognized his dad. DNA tests confirmed the link and the pair had an emotional reunion two weeks ago, the Mail reported.


I've also been thinking about how much media attention the Anthony case is getting and wondered why, with all of the hundreds of channels available on tv, there isn't one single channel dedicated to finding the missing and unidentified.

There are shows like Cold Case Files and AMW and things like that - maybe there should be one channel dedicated to airing stories and providing clues and photos for the missing and UID. Even if people just flipping through the channels saw an interesting segment or someone that looked familiar to them, wouldn't it be worth it?

They could have different types of shows on this channel - some could be told in a story manner, with interviews from family and friends (think Dateline) - other times if there weren't enough stories, they could just run pictures of missing people with the general information. They could even have a show done by amateur sleuths like us - a behind-the-scenes type thing where it shows regular folks trying to find these people's identities.

I, of course, have no idea how to get something like this accomplished, but it seems obvious to me that if we can have 3 or 4 sports channels and a few cooking networks and a couple of shopping channels, then why can't we have ONE channel dedicated to the missing and UID???

ITA, SieSie. I know its been mentioned here on WS countless times before. It seems so obvious and simple, in theory at least, but how to go about it. I like your idea about the behind the scenes amateur sleuths (GO Websleuths!!) show. If only someone would take this ball and run with it.

We have started a new project called Monday4 the Missing. Each week we are asking bloggers to feature one particular missing person on their blogs so that one person can get attention for their case. It is still in its infancy, but this Monday is dedicated to Benjamin Kyle. Hopefully by spreading this article everywhere and anywhere you can will help someone recognize him. Surely there is a family that is missing him somewhere!!

Benjamin Kyle

The Benjamin Kyle story is a different twist on missing persons cases. You see, we know where he is, but, it isn't really him. If that sounds odd to you, please let it be known that missing persons cases are never cut and dried or even as similar as we think.

Benjamin Kyle is the name a man, believed to be in his mid 50's, has taken for himself for the last 4 years. This man was found naked and beaten, most likely left for dead, beside a dumpster in Richmond Hill, Georgia, just south of Savannah. When he was found, he had no identification and no memory of who he is and where he came from.

He started using the name "Benjamin Kyle" but was listed as a living "John Doe" and has been listed with The Doe Network so that workers there can help him figure out who he is, or who he was.

Through the tireless efforts of Todd Matthews, Project EDAN was able to do age "regressed" pictures so that someone might recognize him from his former life. Todd is leading the development of NamUs, an organization to identify the many "Does", and will include living "Does" into that system.

In the meantime, Benjamin Kyle is said to be a well spoken, above average intelligence man who carries himself with a professional demeanor.

Maybe someone will recognize him today and help him find himself.

:clap: I've thought this myself, many times! There are several theme-dedicated channels that I'm sure have a very small demographic and low viewership. One dedicated to missing/UID persons would be such a service to society. I cannot comprehend why such a thing does not exist!

I think Chambliss is still tied up in trying to be re-elected. Wow. Thanks for that story Julessleuther. There certainly is no shortage of mysteries in this world is there! Strange story.... but it truly does offer a great deal of hope, in a number of ways.

Because in a couple days it will be (American) Thanksgiving I will probably get a little busy and won't get to visit so I just wanted to say now to Benjaman that I am thankful that he survived his attack. I am thankful he received the cataract surgery that restored his eyesight to him. I am thankful that he met Nurse Betty because not everyone would be so fortunate to have found a Nurse Betty on their side! I am hopeful, and because of my faith, thankful in advance for Benjaman's finding his identity. I don't know when, where, or how it will happen but I'm hopeful and thankful that it will! And, I am thankful for Benjaman just the way he is today.

BK does have an American accent. From Dr Phil show, the linguist expert thought, Northern Ok., Texas, Indiana and ...oh, my memory fails me..but it was mid west states, not East coast, not West coast, not the South.

If I weren't a member at Websleuths, I would not have heard of this man. I don't pay attention to the National Enquirer and I don't watch Dr. Phil. I think we need to get Benjaman some kind of national attention. Is he ok with people contacting news organizations on his behalf to try to get his picture and story where more people may see him?
If someone thinks he just took off because they were having relationship problems, or financial problems, or some other problems, they may not even be looking for him. He's probably not getting any press in the area where he is actually from.

It seems hard to believe AFTER you are already aware of the case. I only knew after watching Dr.Phil on Youtube. Never heard of BK before that day in November. I brought it up in quite a few conversations to see if anyone else had heard about BK and no one else had either. Given, I live in Canada but do know people in the U.S. as well who had no idea.
A lot of people watch Dr. Phil, but a lot of people don't as well. Has nothing to do with his show, its the time its on and my social circle don't get a chance to turn on the tv everyday and if they do its well after Dr. Phil. It's a show I get a chance to see on tv when I'm home sick for a day or two but that's it.
The evening news or the local newspaper would have been the only way we would have heard about it.
I'm sure it would be the same for many others. Not all of us are tech savy, small town police may assume a man left his wife/kids, and they aren't even looking.

Where I am confused a bit is... when he was found he had longer hair, is there a photo with him with long hair or could someone make one? He also had cataracts possibly from exposure from the sun while laying there, but I also saw another interview who said that he couldn't have been laying there for that long because another shift worker would have noticed him by the garbage bin had he been there?

I was @ Plainfield Correctional facility about 4 weeks ago and saw this man that looked quite familiar to me as I knew I had seen him before. He was a visitor not an inmate. He looks so much like our Benjamin Kyle, it was uncanny. He could of been a brother to BK.

But, please, any new ideas are always welcome!

I do understand that most people do NOT know about BK, even with national exposure in National Enquirer and Dr Phil show. Most of my friends do not know about him and think I am a little obsessed.

Plainfield Correctional Facility, Indiana: 4 weeks ago: Nov. 7, 2008. That was close to veteran's day. And Nov. 7 was a Friday.

Is there a way to get a look at a visitor's log? Is it for public knowledge?

I always go on Saturdays every 2 weeks. I believe it was Nov. 8th that I saw the BK look alike. His hairline is the same, nose, he had on glasses. The only thing I thought his face was a little thinner. He appeared to me to be between 45-50 of age. Again, he was a visitor. The person he was visiting had not came in yet as I was leaving. I know I must of made him uncomfortable bacause I stared @ him. He looked back @ me and I looked away.

I have looked to no avail tonight to where I saw the information about him being found with longer hair, it was from a nurse at the hospital where he was initially taken. Imagine that is part of the reason the officers assumed he was a homeless man.

Also in searching over the internet during that time I see that random beatings of apparent homeless people were a big problem. Or perhaps he had amnesia and was lost even before the beating? Was he tortured days/weeks before Burger King and just dumped there afterwards? There are soo many scenarios...
I have spend an embarassing amount of time searching for answers myself.
Could he have been car jacked and the person who took the car was in a fatal accident and the identity was assumed to be BK?

The couple passed away August 12/04 so the funeral would be near the end of the month? The resemblance of the man and BK I think is impressive, perhaps a brother? I searched for awhile for an obituary to see if there were brothers names listed etc but cannot find one....
It maybe a stretch, but just got a pit of the stomach feeling when I saw it.

I thought that maybe BK had gone to the Savannah, GA area for a funeral. I remember checking the Aug. 2004 obituaries around Richmond Hill, GA. I found one that had surviving brothers, one of whom lived in Ohio, I think. But, I could never go any further with it.

Does anyone know if any or all of the homeless shelters in the Savannah area have been checked to see if anyone remembers him staying there around the time period he was found? I'm sure many of the workers are no longer there but even if just one was there they might remember him if shown a picture.

After BK was well, he worked at homeless shelters and even was the manager of one. Right? Anyone?

In the process of catching up so while I'm going thru the threads I'll see if I come across that info, dream. I was thinking it was that Benjaman worked at the hospital or facility where he had been staying while recovering, but I certainly could be wrong on that. I'll post if I find something specific.

On another note... I received an auto-response from Saxby Chambliss this week.

"Thank you for contacting me. Representing the State of Georgia in the
United States Senate is an honor and a privilege.

I appreciate hearing from you and knowing your concerns. This automated
response serves as a receipt of your e-mail message and allows me to
respond to your direct question or comment in a more timely manner."

The wording gives me hope that I will hear from again and I'll post when I do!
