I've got two posts up at True Crime Report about the Aug. 29 disappearance of 23-year-old Hannah Upp, a middle school Spanish teacher in New York City.

Missing in New York City: Hannah Upp (http://www.truecrimereport.com/2008/09/missing_in_new_york_city_hanna.php)

More About Missing NYC Teacher Hannah Upp (http://www.truecrimereport.com/2008/09/more_about_missing_nyc_teacher.php)

The 2nd article incorporated a talk I had with one of the people running the Facebook group devoted to finding Hannah (http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=86887660472&ref=mf), Arielle Schechter.

This one doesn't look good, so far, so if you're the praying type, spare one for this young lady.

Sparing many more than one.

Praying for you, Hannah.

I'm surprised more people aren't interested in this woman's disappearance.

She is from my hometown, NYC, so I am especially interested.

I hope she is found safely.

Wish this would take national media presence over Casey Anthony

Facebook page set up for Hannah, I wish some of the people so focused on Caylee Anthony would start spreading the word about Hannah

A friend of mine who also teaches in NYC posted these links earlier today:

Anyone with any information is asked to contact Detective Perez, 30th Precinct Detective Squad, at 212-690-8842, or 212-690-8843.

I too wish some of the Casey Anthony media circus would shift this way - obviously, I'd LOVE for Caylee to be found, but I'd much rather see another missing person spotlighted instead of Casey's myriad personal issues.

Hello All,

There is another thread on this. (http://www.websleuths.com/forums/showthread.php?t=70415)

Last night I went through a number of the news articles fishing for the information that is being given. I posted several long posts, fishing up quotes and coming up with questions.

I've subsequently read some more articles and will post more information, got a few answers to questions, but it isn't very helpful yet.

Where are the sleuthing brains to hop in on this? Hop over to the other thread, or maybe we can get the two combined?

Perhaps some of her local friends in NY have some of the answers to the questions and will hop in with answers to some of the questions.

Here's an excerpt from the Facebook group. Looks like one of the admins is the one who reported her missing and went to the police with her mom:

"The last time anyone saw her was around 2pm on the afternoon of Friday, August 29th. According to her roommates, Manny and Sam, she had been planning to go away for the weekend but intended to return on Saturday, perhaps Sunday at the latest. When they had neither seen nor heard from Hannah on Sunday afternoon, they began calling her but each time it went straight to voicemail.

By Monday evening they were getting frantic and so they went into her room, where they discovered her keys, her phone, and her handbag containing her wallet. Her ATM card, her subway card, and her ID (right now just her passport) were all in there. They began calling those of us they recognized from her phone contacts, but no-one knew where she was - apparently people had been trying to get in touch with her since Thursday. As it became clear that no-one knew where she was, Manny and I talked and, with support from others, decided that the police should become involved.

The police said they couldn't report her yet as missing, but they came to the building anyway and did a search. When she didn't show up for work on Tuesday (her first day of teaching), and it became apparent that she had not gone on Friday either, the police decided it was time to file a Missing Persons Report. Hannah's mum arrived on Tuesday and Piyali went with her to the precinct, and I met up with them and the detective at Hannah's apartment on Tuesday afternoon. They searched her room - then, and since then - and we have all been interviewed.

Everyone is desperately hoping that Hannah just got overwhelmed and took a few days off to escape, but the fact that all her stuff was found in the apartment is a mystery . Piyali and I combed the neighborhood park, and today Hannah's colleagues searched that park again and also a nearby park - both places where she liked to go running. The police have also been searching, and we have all been flyer-ing both near and far like madwomen."

Hey Sleuthers,

Can we all get busy sleuthing this over at this thread? (http://www.websleuths.com/forums/showthread.php?t=70415)

That's where the sleuthing takes place. My understanding is that this forum is purely for information, so there's no need necessarily to merge the threads.

Frankly, I think there may be a crime here, but there's no proof of that, yet, so it's actually more appropriate here at the moment. But I've been doing more discussing in the other thread, because it is more appropriate there.

The dumpster diving hobby concerns me in this scenario....she could have been doing this by herself and was accosted or abducted.

Heya Steve,

Do you have a Facebook account or email contact for Hannah's friend (i.e. the one that helped with the Facebook site?)

In the other thread, I have asked for someone to, perhaps, contact the Facebook friends and see if some of them will head to the other thread and answer some questions to help us. With no communication from people who knew her and were regularly in contact with her, it is pretty hard to come up with any ideas.

Just got this message in my Facebook inbox

"I just received a call from a man who says he was with Hannah on Monday. He said that he met her in Green Point at about 5:00am on Monday, and they went to Coney Island together, and he left her there at about 9:00pm. He said that her hair is shorter than in her picture. The police are investigating his claim.

Just wanted to update this thread. The tip mentioned above turned out not to be valid.

I'm happy to hear that they found her. Thank goodness before it was too late.
