Memphis, TN -- It has been exactly four months since an elderly woman from Berclair disappeared on her way to a doctor's appointment and despite hundreds of leads and possible sightings, her family is no closer to finding her.
Elizabeth Ferguson, 86, left her home for a doctor's appointment on the morning of May 5, 2008, but she never made it. The search for the woman and her missing car entered the fourth month on Friday, September 5, 2008.

This is the 1st I've heard of this and I only live 2.5 hrs. from here. I was in Memphis shopping about a month ago and still didn't hear a peep. I would have been looking for the car if I'd known. I didn't see any info on the car in the linked article above so I searched for another link and found this http://www.projectjason.org/forums/index.php?topic=2819.msg18113 which does give info on the car
"Ferguson was driving a 1993 green Mercury Sable, with a Tennessee license plate: 888 FLQ."
I took the liberty of searching ads for this make/model/color vehicle so I could post a picture for anyone in the nearby area to keep an eye out for it.

I would suggest to the family to do an intensive search for used cars online and including ebay. Possibly email info to any sellers you see with the vin #. Get the weekly "Tradewinds" or whatever sale magazine is popular in the Memphis area where people sell used items and especially vehicles. Don't limit your search to the immediate area. Consider everything.
I will surely keep my eyes open. I think you need to put some pressure on the Memphis news stations to keep her story alive. The word is not out good enough if I'm just hearing this.
I am so sorry for what you must be going through. My prayers are with you!

This story has haunted me for some time. The local Memphis news just broke in reporting that Elizabeth Ferguson's car has just been found and police were requesting cadaver dogs. Police were just now arriving on the scene. More updates will come later, I'm sure.

"The car, a 1993 Mercury Sable, was found on a dirt road in the remote woods of Ensley Bottom.
Chopper 5 was there even before Memphis police arrived, and when investigators learned Ferguson was not inside the car, a massive search began. The car was located in an area so remote, searchers could only get there by foot."

Good Lord, if the area was that remote that the searchers could only get there by foot; wouldn't it be terribly hard to get a non-4 wheel drive vehicle to the spot?
My prayers for this woman & her family; her daughter is trying so hard..

Wow. It is very suspicious her car would end up in such a remote area. The article didn't say - does anyone know how far it is from where her car was found to her home?
I cannot imagine what is going on with her daughter. If my mother was missing and her car was found abandoned it would just make me crazy.

Several Mid-South Women Missing
6/12/08
Near Tunica, MS - A Farmer discovered skeletal remains in a rural field about a mile outside Tunica. Tunica County investigators believe the remains belong to a woman, but they said they don't know for sure. There are several Mid-South women missing, including 44 year-old Doris Butler, who was last seen in Tunica February 3, 2008. €œIt€™s too early to tell whether it€™s her or not," said K.C. Hamp, Tunica County Sheriff. Butler was last seen going to a Tunica grocery store.
86 year-old Elizabeth Ferguson was last seen May 2. Her family said she was supposed to go to a doctor€™s appointment from her Berclair home, but never made it to the doctor€™s office. She drove a 1993 Mercury Sable. Police are still looking for Ferguson and her car.
Latoya Lusk was 22 years-old when she vanished on March 25,2007 , while leaving €œChristie€™s Cabaret€ in South Memphis. Police found her car several days after her disappearance, but there is still no sign of her.
Ricarda Tillman-Lockett was 22 years-old when she disappeared. She was last seen February 19, 2007, leaving her job at €œJillian€™s€ in Downtown Memphis.
Dr. Cheryl Pearson was 37 years-old when she vanished January 5, 2002. A few days after she disappeared, police found her car at a nearby apartment complex, wiped clean of all fingerprints.
K.C. Hamp, Tunica County Sheriff said it is too soon to tell who the skeletal remains belong to. They plan to collect DNA samples from them, and may work with neighboring police departments about their missing persons cases.
The bones discovered will be sent to the Mississippi Crime Lab in Jackson. Investigators say they are not sure how long the bones were in the field, and cannot tell the woman€™s age or race. Crews will continue searching the field for clues Friday.
If you have any information that could help officers locate any of these missing people, call police.

"On Saturday morning, searchers found skeletal remains and what appears to be a woman's shoe and clothing about 200 yards from where a car belonging to Elizabeth Ferguson, an 86-year-old woman missing since May, was discovered last Tuesday."

It appears as though Mrs. Ferguson's remains were found (pending lab results.) I wish this could have had a happier ending, but at least the family can have some closure.
