Update On SD Missing Child Case (5/13/2008)
Authorities call it parental abduction. Her family calls it what any mother would do.
After losing custody of her 7-year-old daughter to her husband nearly two years ago, Eileen Sharp of Hitchcock hasn't been heard from.
The case has received national attention, and just last week, struck up talk in Michigan after a reported sighting.
A young girl's bedroom in Layne Peterson's house in Bonilla sits unchanged since August 2006 - the last time he saw his daughter.
Shanae Peterson, who will turn 10 this year, is presumably on the run with her mother, Eileen Sharp and Sharp's husband Perry.
The custody battle over Shanae was strange. She was born while Layne and Eileen were divorced, but reconciled.
After Eileen and Perry Sharp married and moved to Idaho, Layne went to court and won. A judge ordered Shanae to be returned to Layne, but —
"Well, never showed up," Peterson says.
