Do you know if she had any issues with depression, etc? According to the article below, she wasn't on any medication. All the symptoms (chest pain, headaches, etc.) are common physical symptoms that can come along with depression. This makes me wonder if maybe she had some sort of break...definitely sounds as if this was not "like her". The fact that she too personal care items from the house would imply that she planned to be gone for a while, but for a month now? :waitasec:
It also concerns me that they found her vehicle. I'm not familiar with California...is the area where they found it remote? What was left in the car? So many questions...
Regardless, I hope Susan is found and reunited safely with her family...

Don't know about what items if any were left in the truck, I will ask that question on her board. Castro Valley is a small town in California.
I just know that it is very odd especially having 4 kids ages 17 - 10 for her to disappear like this. I was hoping this board could help. Thank you very much for your response and concern.

The fact her truck was found parked in the BART parking lot along with the fact she took some personal items definetly indicates she went somewhere. Are her credit cards, ATM withdrawals being monitored? Did LE check BART purchases to see if she bought a train ticket? She's not going to get far without money.
I wonder why she kept her physical ailments hidden. She could have checked herself into a hospital secretly to deal with it. Is there any history of drug use?
Physical ailments do couple with depression sometimes but brutal chest pains, black-outs, excruciating head-aches? That sounds much more serious - my first thought was a brain tumour but the chest pains are throwing me off. I suppose it could be caused by severe stress.....
It sounds as if she was a very busy woman with 4 kids, church activities, cello, social engagements, a marriage, etc. She had a lot going on, probably felt like there was a lot expected of her, maybe she felt like she couldn't deal any longer and took off. A month is a long time to not contact your children and husband though....

Bolded by me =)
My way of thinking, as for the physical ailments, is that maybe they were exaggerated by her...because of her ? depression issues?
I'm thinking what you are...that she needed a break...but a month is extreme.

I was thinking about that. If she had a pre-existing issue, the depression could aggravate it and make it much worse and then of course you develop anxiety and panic because of the pain and that makes it even worse. Lets hope she is getting help somewhere.

she had taken only a few items with her a toothbrush , a stuffed bear (this bear has significance) and a few personal items. She left with no money that anyone knew of, and no medications. In regards to the police, all there saying is there is no foul play and she left under her free will.

racingwild, what do you make of the letter that she appears to have sent to her boys? Sounds like she's in hiding due to real or imagined threats.

My concern is this is not like her at all and the letter doesn't even look like her hand writting that is why I made a recommendation to have it analyzed. I was hoping that maybe other people here can help with providing me other questions to post on her board or if they can post them themselves on her board.
There are a few people that believe that this was not self willing too.

Wow. I didn't see the letter until just now. It certainly doesn't sound like she is emotionally well. I know she wasn't on any meds, but does she have a history of mental illness? Does her husband have ANY idea whose these "bad men" may be? Have they done forensics on her computer?

This is what I know of her, she was always in the church choir and playing the cello, she was a leader for a small group. She was very fun loving and loved her children.
My concern is that they keep trying to focus on her mental stability?? but the last time my grandma saw her which was a week before she disappeared she was fine and she never seemed mentally unstable at all to her. She did mention that her husband was a very controlling husband.
My concern is how do we find out what they have done in this case? Have they done a handwriting analysis because there are so many people that know her are saying it doesn't even look like her handwritting, why did her truck turn up 2 weeks later at a parking lot that is very public and was just left there? Don't know who to ask about what have they done or not done in this investigation?
I was hoping people here could help with this. Please let me know. Thank you.
We are very concern.

They Cannot comment on the contents of the truck at this time. The vehicle was discovered Oct. 12th at the Castro Valley Park In Ride on Center St and highway 580, the keys were not left in the vehicle. Thanks for the posting on Websleuths it's a great website. Also thanks for assistance in this case, as time goes on I'm sure we'll be needing help.
In regards to your question about the letter, Susan hand a very distinctive handwriting style and they are very confident as to the validity of the writings.
They will not comment on anything regarding Susans financial information at this time.
One last note: Susan Maunder left behind a fair amount of written documents regarding her life and the circle of acquaintances she had. There's a good chance that some of the documentation that she left behind will be posted on susanmaunder.com to better understand her frame of mind, so if anyone has has any infomation or knows of anyone who may have information as to anything noticeably different about Susan before she went missing please call East Bay Parks Police and/or the Private Investigator working on the case.

CASTRO VALLEY — A mother of four whose family reported she had been missing for a month has been found alive and well, police said Wednesday.
Investigators discovered that Susan Maunder, 48, voluntarily left what was described as "an unhappy situation," said Sgt. Tyrone Davis of the East Bay Regional Park District Police Department.
Davis would not disclose where Maunder was found or where she is staying, but said she is going through a difficult time and is under a lot of stress.
Maunder — whom police previously described as a mother of three — was last seen by her family Sept. 27, leaving her home on Redwood Road in Castro Valley to attend a Bible Study Fellowship Leaders meeting in Pleasanton. She never made it to the destination, nor did she return home that day, and her husband subsequently called police to report her missing.
The vehicle Maunder was driving was found in Castro Valley on Oct. 12.
After interviewing family and friends, investigators initially believed Maunder may have been suffering from some form of mental duress and may also have been delusional, but "we do not believe she is a danger to herself, and she just wants to be left alone," Davis said Wednesday.

I'm glad she was found, but there are much better ways of leaving than to just disappear and make everyone worry about you.
