I havent heard of a thing.
I was following this case too.
I hope a break comes because whoever did this needs to be caught and brought to justice.

Here's a thread on this case if you want to read more.

thank you for the thread link. I had lindsays last named spelled wrong.

I agree with some of the posters about the .45 caliber. It's probably been handed down. But a bit gun for sure. One that would have maybe been on someone's 'gun rack' in a truck or of course anywhere in a vehicle. But a good possiblilty somone as a passenger in such vehicle would most likely have seen? Unless of course the possesser of the gun rode alone or is a loner. I don't think somone would be walking around or riding a bike with such a large weapon. I also agree a more national release of the evidence (pic of gun and the necklance) may provide some additional tips.

I don't how to have this merged with the thread you gave me, or moved to the state sub forums or if it should stay here. stupid newbie.

probably another stupid question. But how can they tell they were "shot in their sleep", actually sleeping?

Does anyone know what the couple wrote in the 'notebook' at this make-shift driftwood site? I thought I had heard one of the relatives say something like they at least knew what they were thinking/feeling about shortly before their deaths. Which I assume reflected their Christian beliefs, and why the father feels strongly this was why they were killed. I just can't figure if the killer:
A. Read this, saw them sleeping and shot them. (how well was this area lit?)
B. Had a 'conversation' with them about Christianity and left, pondered, came back, shot them.
C. Neither and did it to do it. For other reasons.

It sounds like at this point, LE has nothing more to lose. I hope the something comes to light soon.

Sky, a mod can merge threads if they want. It's not a problem starting a new one. No worries.

As for the shooting in their sleep, my best guess is that LE determined that based on no defensive wounds or indicators that they tried to get away, turn from their attacker, etc. That's just a guess, tho.

Hmm, I have to go read about the notebook; I can't remember anything about it.

JENNER, Calif. -- Sonoma County investigators confirmed Tuesday that a “survivalist” living in the wilds of New Mexico who died in a shootout with authorities was a “person of interest” in the unsolved murder of a couple on a Jenner Beach in 2004.Capt. Matt McCaffrey said similarities in the slaying of a couple on a Vancouver Island, British Columbia, beach in 1972 that had been linked by a fingerprint to Joseph Henry Burgess, 62, had made him a prime suspect in the Jenner murders.McCaffrey told KTVU that Sonoma investigators were “optimistic, yet realistic” when it came to Burgess as a suspect in the slayings of Jason Allen, 26, of Zeeland, Mich., and Lindsay Cutshall, 22, of Fresno, Ohio. The couple who had been working as counselors at a Christian camp were shot at close range as they slept on the beach.McCaffrey said that Sonoma investigators would soon be traveling to New Mexico to search through Burgess’ belongings for clues that would link him to the Jenner murders.According to McCaffrey, Burgess was considered a “person of interest” within days of the Jenner slayings. more at link: http://www.ktvu.com/news/20134178/detail.html

Joseph Burgess, a fugitive wanted in Canada for a 1972 double murder was shot and killed by Sheriff Officers in New Mexico after he killed another officer at a shotout during a stakeout in a cabin in the Mountains of New Mexico. Burgess has long been considered a POI in the murder of Jason and Lindsay although the conection was based soley on the similarities of the two murders 35 years apart. There was never any forensic connection and there were no known ties between Burgess and the two Jenner victims or with the Russian River area. There have been other young couples murdered in similar fashon in the western US and Law Enforcement will take another look at Burgess. He was a fugitive with a murder warrant hanging over he head so he has managed to keep a very low profile where ever he went. We may never find out.

The LA Times did a nice in-depth article about Burgess' history and the murders:
