Liliana Beatrice Iboa, 20, and Karen Bianay Cervantes were reported missing by Iboa's husband, Benito Cervantes Mena, on Friday night.
Mena told police he had been out of town when he received a call Friday morning from an unidentified male suspect claiming he had his wife and daughter. The caller demanded a ransom.

An Avondale woman and her daughter were kidnapped from their home near 129th Avenue and Encanto Boulevard Thursday night or Friday morning, according to police officials.
Police say they were specifically targeted. They would not specify the dollar amount the kidnappers were demanding except to say that it was in the tens of thousands of dollars.

First thing to check out: phone records. At the very least, a call from the kidnapper while may not log a number, but could pinpoint the possible beginning of a timeline as to when the call came in.

I could be way off - and hope I am - but, there seems to be something "off" with the husband's story. Maybe it's just with all the recent "fake" kidnappings and "ransoms" that end up being a domestically-related incident.
And I do wish there was more coverage of this...

From the Foxnews article:
"He told police he did not report the incident right away because he feared his family would be harmed."
I call b.s. - I hope I'm wrong, but this feels...off...

I know it...unfortuanately the "fake" kidnappings make things tough on the real ones.
It seems like it doesn't happen for real often enough...that a family is taken for hostage.
Thank God for that.
But man on my soap opera right now, a wife and child is taken and the husband is going through torture trying to find them!!!
It turns out the wife is stageing the whole entire thing!!!
I feel awful for doubting it...not necessarily that she is staging it, but maybe HE planned it??
I don't know!!!
I do hope nothing bad has happened to them.
And i wish we knew more about it what's going on right now.
They are both so pretty too......not that that matters...but just saying.....

I'm interested in the case... just seems to be hard to find much on it. I am in the mind-think that something is definitely off. Given that they are in a state bordering Mexico, and are near Mexico, a kidnapping would not be surprising, but awfully brazen. The husband's reaction for not immediately calling it in doesn't wash, for me. If anything, one would think he would be making a flurry of calls to see if his wife was actually missing from the house... this is where the phone records will play into the importance of the case timeline.

I'm interested, but short on info. Nothing left to do but speculate.
I'll go with the theory that the husband got the idea to make wifey dissappear after hearing of the recent Mexican drug cartel kidnapping of the 10 year old boy in Nevada. The baby girl is either being hidden with relatives or was killed and left with her deceased mother. As for disposal of the body(ies), I'd guess burned and buried in the desert.
Anyone know where the husband was when he was out of town on business?

More info from abc.15.com (http://www.abc15.com/content/news/phoenixmetro/story.aspx?content_id=8da44324-83a4-4748-a762-f5c185052656):
"Back in 2003 the CBS station KVAL in Eugene, Oregon and the local newspaper The Register-Guard ran stories about the then 15-year-old Iboa.
Her parents said on August 30th she disappeared after working a late shift at a Mexican restaurant in Springfield, Oregon.
Springfield is located 9 miles east of Eugene.
They believed her then 21-year-old boyfriend Benito Mena had taken her against her will. According to an article by The Register-Guard, "Iboa's parents reported her as a runaway the night she vanished. They later told police their daughter telephoned them Oct. 3. She was crying and the line was disconnected before she could say where she was or if she was all right, police said."
(.....)
"In a telephone interview with ABC15 on Saturday night Iboa's mom Maria Iboa said the couple had been separated for one year and that her daughter and granddaughter were living in New Mexico.
She said she did not approve of Mena because "he has a bad reputation".
She added that on Sunday, November 2nd Mena came to their house and her daughter took-off with him.
The last time she talked to her daughter she says was on Thursday November 6th."
Husband is full of carp, IMO. After reading this, I fear the worst. :(

I tend to agree with you. I've been following the case and writing about it (at my site), at least one of the family has stopped by and commented so far, but nothing useful yet.
I keep hoping that the girls will turn up soon or that maybe she has just run away again to get away from Mena. The more time goes by the uglier this is looking.

There are about six pages just like that one. All relatives from what I have been able to ascertain. The one you came across is an Iboa but I haven't figured out how they are related yet or not. The rest of the family aside from the possible Aunt I've heard from is keeping pretty quiet.

Oh I'm so glad! Thanks for posting this...! Still seems suspicious. The ransom? $100,000? Does the family have that much money at their disposal? Seems off to me, still.
