Lawyer: Caylee Anthony's grandparents wait, agonize

Family members of missing toddler Caylee Anthony were "devastated" by the discovery last week of the remains of a small child near their home but held on to hopes Sunday that the child might still be alive as law-enforcement officers continued to comb the scene of the gruesome finding.

The family met with their attorney, Brad Conway, who said his clients are asking for privacy as they await positive identification of the body.

"They're devastated," Conway said. "They're realistic about the probability that it's Caylee, but they pray that it's not."

Investigators over the weekend discovered more bones in the area where a child's skull and other remains were found near the home missing toddler, Caylee Marie Anthony, shared with her mother and grandparents.

Detectives did not give details about the bones, but they are continuing to sift through dirt in a wooded area close to Hopespring and Suburban drives this morning. The missing girl's grandparents, George and Cindy Anthony, live less than a 1/4 mile from the site where the bones were found.

Orange County sheriff's officials said the evidence is mounting that the remains belong to Caylee Anthony.

Sheriff Kevin Beary said Friday the bone size and hair color of the remains match the missing toddler.

The FBI is looking at DNA from the remains at a lab in Virginia, saying it could be a week before conclusive results are released.

While the Anthonys did not speak to FOX 35 crews, their pastor, Dr. Shane Stutzman said he held a private meeting with the grandparents of missing 3-year-old Caylee Marie.

Caylee has been missing since June, and no trace of her was found until last week's discovery. Orange County sheriff's deputies, agents from the Florida Department of Law Enforcement and FBI experts have converged on the vacant property and continue to comb it for clues.

Sheriff's spokesman Carlos Padilla said Sunday that the thick undergrowth has made for slow searching.

"They're being very tedious and very methodical," he said.

The crime scene is being blocked by an official vehicle. FOX 35's Valerie Boey said an investigator carrying a machete was at the wooded area this morning, most likely there to help clear land and search for any additional evidence.

TruTV is going to talk about the Caylee case on Best defense at 10am central. there's not a link it's on tv. not sure what time they will talk about caylee case they are suppose to have an emtomolgist on. He just stated they will talk about during the show Best defense which runs 10am - 12noon central time.

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35, Orlando) -- Monday morning, Orange County Sheriff’s spokesperson Carlos Padilla confirmed that additional items were recovered at the crime site where the remains of a child were found on Thursday.

He would not say whether those items were additional bones or clothing, noting that the sheriff’s office wanted to keep the integrity of the case at hand.

St. Patrick's Day, with all its shamrocks and four leaved clovers, is the day the Anthony computer shows the searches for peroxide, shovels, acetone, alcohol, and how to make chloroform.

This clearly predates the June time frame when Klee was last seen alive. It also allows ample time for the possibility that KC used chloroform on Klee prior to the date of death.

December 15, 2008 - 3:30 PM: Investigators from the Orange County Sheriff's Office and the Federal Bureau of Investigation continue to process the crime scene where the remains of a young child were discovered on December 11, 2008 by an Orange County utilities worker. The scene continues to produce items of evidentiary value that relate to the discovery of the child's body however investigators will not discuss specific details pertaining to the evidence recovered from the scene. Detectives can not say how long they will continue to process the crime scene other than to confirm that the processing will continue until they are certain that everything of evidentiary value has been recovered. Investigators also advised that they have not positively identified the remains of the victim recovered from the wooded area just off of Suburban Drive in Southeast Orange County. Updates on this investigation will be provided as they become available.

Angelo Nieves, of the Orange County Sheriff's Office, says they have made more significant finds during Monday's search of the area where the remains were found, but he could not release specifics on that evidence. He also said that they are using experts from the University of Central Florida, an anthropologist, an entomologist and a botonist to examine the scene.

That phone call makes the meter reader ineligible for a $5,000 Crimeline reward. To collect the reward, you have to call Crimeline first before you call 911.

"You have to initiate a tip with Crimeline at 1-800-423-TIPS," explained Detective Barb Bergin, Crimeline. "We don't have enough money to pay rewards to everyone who calls 911."

Bergin encourages people to call 911 if there is an emergency, but Crimeline calls are answered 24 hours a day.
