Two weeks ago, a Lubbock teen disappeared from her home. Now the FBI and Texas Rangers have joined the search for Joanna Rogers.
Tuesday morning an FBI agent interviewed Joanna's mother for about an hour and a half. Also new, the Carole Sund Foundation offered a $5,000 reward for information leading to the safe return of Joanna

sure is strange that this young lady went missing during the night. I feel like she had planned on going out of the house when the parents went on to sleep. hopefully she will show up ok, I think she is a runaway. remember christa rolinger that run away and was missing for about 2 months or so. lets all keep our prayers strong for this family and for the safe return of the child.

I don't see her as being a runaway because she did not take her debit card, shoes, clothes, or cell phone. I think it is disgusting that the police waited for 2 days to declare Joanne a missing person. She is only a junior in high school and was supposedly a very good and reliable girl. The ten mile area search was only done this past weekend and foul play is suspected. I have no idea if they still believe that she left the home of her own free will or not, and hopefully the local yokals will let people know if there is some nut running around abducting girls.

After two days with hundreds of volunteers, the search for missing Lubbock teen Joanna Rogers continues. Few clues were found, but authorities say much ground was covered, and leads keep coming in everyday.
16 year-old Joanna Rogers has been missing for almost three weeks. But this weekend, hundreds gathered to assist in her search.

Her name is Shadow. A Siberian Husky trained to search out the missing - alive or dead. "What we're doing is eliminating places," said Captain Bill Drewell of the Lubbock Sheriff's Department.
On Wednesday, Shadow was helping the sheriff's department search through cars at a towing yard. "What we're doing is going to some of the areas that we didn't get to search over the weekend," said Drewell.

I live in the area and all news accounts that I have seen say that Joanna was placed on the national missing persons list two days after her mother discovered her gone. The Texas Rangers and FBI are on the case, and I know they are very good at what they do. I've seen some other locals, one who knows her, posting on the internet that Joanna is an honors student and has very good grades. The high school she attends is an honors school offering advanced placement, and her father is a private investigator. I wonder if Joanna could have sneaked outside to smoke a cigarette and some nut abducted her. Last year we had a prowler around our home. My daughter who was 18 would go outside very late to smoke a cigarette, and I thought there might be some connection. Thank God for a neighbors dog barking or my daughter could have been hurt or abducted. My daughter would never go anywhere, not even in the yard, without a phone with her though, and that puzzles me about this case.

txvicki, Please keep us posted on news involving Joanna. It's possible she ran away, but that shouldn't be assumed because she might have been abducted. It's better to error on the side of caution when no history of running away exist.

I'm not hearing any news about Joanna. There's hardly anything being said except that they have no leads. Surely there's more though, but I've not heard a thing about whether there was anything on the computers or phone records, and if her bed had been slept in or if any clothes or pajamas were missing that she could have had on.

June 4th Lubbock Avalanche Journal reports that authorities are still waiting for phone and communications records to assist in their search. I'm not sure what communications records are, if it's computer or what. Joanna's mother also states that she has no complaints with the way the case is being handled. Still no leads are being reported.

Joanna Rogers flyers have been posted to several websites and organizations. The family has several friends working to make sure she is posted everywhere. There are a couple of websites just for Joanna. The Lubbock County Sheriff Department is working hard on the case, and has had several tips but none of them have panned out to be good Leads. They can't release any information as they find it, until the case is solved and Joanna is found.
We will continue to search for Joanna until she is found, and try to keep this story alive. She is on the Projectjason website
http://www.projectjason.org/faces.html
and the organization is taking with them her information/flyer on their missing person tour, which will cross several states. We hope and pray she will come home or someone will call and let us know where she can be found.
Please continue to keep this family in your prayers, each day that goes by is harder and harder for them.

I'm very curious to know if the FBI and Texas Rangers are still involved. I read an update yesterday that said the "trail began and ended at Joanna's home", meaning that there are no leads. Even if no one had said that a stranger could have abducted her, there seems to be so many young women of student age that just disappear lately.

How extensive a search was done for Joanna? I haven't seen a lot of information about searches.

The authorities did the initial search and a few weeks after the disappearance , the public responded and I believe a search was done in a 10 mile radius around her home area. We haven't been given just a whole lot of information about the investigation, but the Sheriff's department has stated that there are no leads. Joanna's dad is a private investigator, and the family is reported to be attending a conference for investigators to try and find more help or advice about what more they can do.

The Sheriff's dept. is saying that the two cases don't seem to be related, but there is another missing woman here in town, age 26. She was last seen Tuesday, made it to her house but has not been seen since. The car and car keys were there at her house and she has not picked up her paycheck. She also worked at a place that serves many people in the public. Hopefully these cases will resolve in a happy ending and that there truly is no connection. There's already several, too many, unsolved murders of women in this town and I don't want to see Joanna or this other girl added to it.

An update on the website www.bringjohome.info mentions an important fact about Joanna's haircolor. Her missing posters show red hair, but it is not her natural haircolor. Joanna's natural haircolor is brown, and if she is unable to color, could be showing roots. More photos are linked under the photo section, and viewers are encouraged to view them to get an idea of how Joanna might look with a different haircolor.

A nationwide missing persons bulletin was issued by the Lubbock County, Texas, Sheriff's Department on the evening of May 6th, 2004, two days after Joanna Rogers went missing from her home just outside the Lubbock city limits. Joanna, a junior at Lubbock High School, came home from her job at a sandwich shop about 12:20 a.m. on May 4th, and had a short conversation with her mother before apparently going to bed. At 7 a.m., there was no trace of Joanna Rogers. The teenager's belongings -- debit card, car keys, shoes, clothes and cell phone -- were still in her room. Her parents reported her missing immediately. Her mother said Joanna was looking forward to participating in a dance recital that night. She has no history of running away from home.
There was no sign of forced entry and the family's two dogs did not alert the household to an intruder. County authorities have analyzed the youngster's computer hard drive as well her mother's. They've interviewed co-workers, a boyfriend and others who might have seen Joanna before she disappeared. The Sheriff's Department has no substantial leads at this time, but believes foul play is involved.
Joanna's seventeenth birthday was Friday, June 25th, 2004. A reward of $15,000 is offered for information leading to the whereabouts of this child

Good news for the Rogers as Joanna's face will be on some ad cards. Joanna's mother writes:
"A mass advertising mailing post card commonly known as Mail-It has a local ad on one side and a missing person on the address side of the card. Those of you in Texas, LA, NM, OK and ARK may have received one of these last week with Joanna's picture on it. If you did just feel free to talk to people you know about it, and bring it to their attention. Friends in the Houston area have also told us that an advertising circular has come in the mail with her picture on it too. I didn't know about this one, but I will take all the help we can get. This one looks similar to a newspaper ad insert, but comes in the mail. In our neck of the woods it is called Texas Treasures, and in July they generously donated space the Lubbock area and Larado area flyers to promote Joanna's case.
There has still been no good leads on Joanna's or Jennifer's disappearance. For those of you who may not have heard, another young woman Jennifer Wilkerson age 26 disappeared from Lubbock on July 13. Circumstances are similar in that she didn't take car, house keys, most personal belongings, etc. and she lived in rural south Lubbock county. Both worked in businesses with high public traffic."
If you are a recipient of these cards, do pass them along to others and pray for Joanna's safe return to those who love her.

I received one in the mail. It was a long card in black and white with the same pic of Joanna that is in the missing person fliers. I really do believe that the authorities know lots more than what the public is being told, but that there truly are no leads that they can go arrest the person or persons responsible. Some of Joanna's friends may even know more but are afraid to speak up.

Amid the agony, parents cling to hope
BY JASON WOMACK
AVALANCHE-JOURNAL
Jack Wilkerson's favorite picture of his daughter Jennifer now adorns the hundreds of white paper fliers that dot the windows of truck stops, gas stations and restaurants in Lubbock and along highways that feed into the city. Emblazoned above the image is one word: missing.
The photograph shows his daughter, now 26, peering out from under a hood in the dim twilight hours of a Colorado evening. She balls her fists and holds them close to her face to fight off the cold. Although she is shrouded in white, her smile is the brightest thing in the picture.
Jennifer Wilkerson Her parents have not seen that smile or heard her voice since she vanished from her south Lubbock County home more than three months ago.
Jennifer Wilkerson's July 13 disappearance sparked the second missing person investigation by the Lubbock County Sheriff's Office in a year. Joanna Rogers, 17, also vanished from her family's home May 4.
"This is Lubbock. This isn't Dallas, Houston or Austin. We've had two girls disappear in 10 weeks," Joanna's father, Joe Bill Rogers said. "That shakes the community."
The disappearances of Jennifer and Joanna have sparked f ruitless foot searches of the areas surrounding the homes of both women. The Sheriff's Office, working with a team of forensic divers, even searched Buffalo Springs Lake to no avail.
Despite significant rewards being offered for information leading to the return of the women, the investigations have yet to turn up any solid information leading to their locations, said Sgt. Greg Parrott with the Sheriff's Office.
Parrott, who supervises both investigations, spends every hour of his workday in a concentrated effort to find the women.
"We've taken extraordinary measures to follow up on every lead and even the slightest hunch," he said. "We do feel these cases will be solved, and they will be solved soon."
The Sheriff's Office does not believe the disappearances are related.
The parents of both women said the Sheriff's Office is doing everything it can to locate their daughters. As the search for the women continues, the families are growing desperate for information and struggling to answer the questions that haunt their thoughts.
The Wilkersons live moment to moment. They continue to go to work and live their lives. However, every reminder of their daughter can summon a flood of emotion.
"I can't drive by a softball game without seeing her slide into third base," Jack Wilkerson said.
He and his daughter shared a love of books and music. During her visits to the Wilkersons' home in Hobbs, N.M., they would retreat to his library to play songs for one another.
During lightning storms, they would head to the country to listen to music and watch the flashes of light streak across the New Mexico sky.
"She is also my best friend," he said of his daughter, who he described as fiercely independent.
Jennifer is always in her parents' thoughts. She enters their minds in the morning and she's with them when they fall asleep.
"It's like a nightmare you can't wake up from" said Vikki Wilkerson, Jennifer's mother.
Vikki Wilkerson's most difficult days are Tuesdays, the day her daughter disappeared. She struggles through the others.
"I think I'm walking insanity," she said.
At times she feels fine, but a conversation or memory can destroy her. She remembers a talk with a co-worker where she inadvertently began imitating her daughter's "little heh heh heh" laugh. She fell apart, moving from laughter to tears.
Common rituals try both families. Trips to the grocery store are now complicated endeavors.
Vikki Wilkerson said she tells people she is "fine."
"But we won't be fine until Jennifer comes home," she said.
Joanna's mother, Kathryn Rogers, says people now withdraw from her family.
"We're a constant reminder that life is not always good or fair," she said.
She said they rarely go to restaurants or even watch television.
Both families pray for their daughters to return safely.
"All I have to hold on to is my faith, and until somebody gives me something else, I'm going to hold onto that," Jack Wilkerson said.

An update from Joanna's Mom, posted with permission:
"Hi All,
I know we have been pretty quiet lately, there hasn't been much to tell. The media still keeps Joanna in the news, and my mother said someone had seen Joanna's picture on television recently in Illinois. The Sheriff's office and FBI are still following leads, and interviewing friends co-workers again, and following up on any tips that come along.
The investigator handling Joanna's case, Anthony McAdoo called today to let us know that America's Most Wanted television program was going to run something on Joanna at the end of their program on Saturday, December 11. It comes on the Fox Channel 34 here, about 7:00 pm, right after the show COPS. We have not been contacted by anyone, so I am assuming that it will only be a short mention, not a full segment, but we are grateful for any national exposure. Maybe it will lead to something.
Carole Sund/Carrington Memorial Foundation has agreed to extend the $5,000 reward they offered for another six months. The $10,000 reward put up by Gandy's Dairies is good through May 2005 also, and we are very grateful to both these organizations for their generosity.
We are still looking, hoping and praying that Joanna will be home soon, and appreciate all the support that everyone has given us. Our webmistress Nan, has been keeping the website updated as much as possible with what little news we have had to give her, but if anything breaks she will post it immediately on www.bringjohome.info . So check it regularly.
Best wishes to all for a blessed holiday season

I watched the whole segment of AMW and unless I missed something at the very first, I didn't see any mention of Joanna by the AMW people. What I did hear and see was sort of a quick shot of Joanna's pic and the voice of a local newscaster saying that the case would get mention on AMW. I suppose that could alert someone watching, and I imagine alot were since the BTK killer of Kansas was a main topic of the show. Joanna's mother was interviewed on the following local newscast.

"We have been notified that Joanna is to be profiled on another crime tv show called "Without a Trace." This is a CBS program that airs on Thursday night 9:00 pm (I believe) Central Standard time. She should be featured tomorrow (Thursday, Dec. 23, 2004). This is the information we have now. As with the segment on "America's Most Wanted", we assume that it will be very brief; name, picture, date disappeared, contact, etc. Probably not more than a few seconds. We thought that Joanna would be profiled on AMW on Dec. 11, but she was preempted. She did appear on the show on Dec. 18. So far we haven't heard that there have been any new leads to the Sheriff's office, but this is a start to the national exposure we have been hoping for, and will perhaps bring Joanna home. We have not been contacted by any of the shows' producers, and are not sure how Joanna was chosen to be profiled on these national programs, but we are grateful to whomever is responsible.
The Sheriff's office and the FBI are still working hard on this case, and the news media is keeping the public interest up, so it helps keep our spirits up. Nan and Philip have been doing a fantastic job of keeping the websites updated at www.bringjohome.info and www.joannarogers.com. We appreciate them so much. We also want to thank each and every one of you for your prayers, efforts and support you have given us through the last almost 8 months. In this time of trial, God has indeed blessed us with each and every one of you. We wish you all a blessed Christmas and with your help we will Bring Jo Home.
Love to all,

Update - Sunday, January 30th - Kathy Rogers was recently put in touch with the senior producer for the Montel Williams show. Word is that they are considering shooting another segment on missing persons, and so the family is speaking with the producer to see if they will consider airing Joanna's case.
Kathy was also contacted this week by Wade Smith from the National Center for Missing Adults. NCMA want to include Joanna's picture and contact information in their "Racing for the Missing" program. This is were they put pictures of missing people on the hoods of race cars, along with contact information, and the cars will race in various races in the southwest.
Joanna has been missing for 271 days.

A Message from Joanna's family:
"Dear Friends,
Tomorrow will be May 4. One year since Joanna has disappeared. The U.S. Postal Service, U.S. Postal Inspection Service and National Center for Missing and Exploited Children launched an effort today called "Deliver Me Home." They will be sending out 52,000 flyers to homes in and around Lubbock with Joanna's picture and information on it. There was a press conference today which Joe Bill and I attended, announcing the mailing.
This program started in 2003, and is in cooperation with the above listed organizations to put out the flyer on the 1 year anniversary date of missing children to keep the children and cases and contact information in the public eye. There have been 11 mailings, including Joanna's since 2003. This is the first time it has been done in Texas. All of our local channels covered the event, and it will air tonight at 6:00, but you may see something statewide. The public affairs director from the USPS in Dallas was there directing the event, a really nice man named Mr. Boyd, so you may see something on your local news about it in the next day or two. Everybody in Lubbock should be getting the flyer in the mail today. It is my understanding that the mailings have resulted in helping to find several of the children they have featured.
Channel 28 is also planning to air an extended story on the 10:00 pm news tonight regarding the night Joanna disappeared. Kari Panchuk has put this together.
Shepherd King will be holding a prayer service on Saturday night May 7 at Shepherd King at 7:00 pm. Pastor Kaskela began this right after Joanna disappeared, and the congregation has prayed faithfully for Joanna and our family ever since, as have so many others.
In spite of the constant efforts of the Lubbock County Sheriff's office, FBI, City of Lubbock Police Department, Texas Rangers, DPS, United Response Search and Rescue Team and hundreds of family, friends and concerned people we can't even begin to know about, there are still no solid leads as to where Joanna is, or who she may have gone with. Please know that we appreciate your constant prayers and support more than we can ever express and thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your help to Bring Joanna Home.
God Bless

My prayers are certainly with you!
I have never forgotten about Joanna's missing -- partly because as with Maura Murray, my future daughter-in-law, there have been no leads.
I did not recall that Joanna went missing on Maura's birthday. This May 4th, Maura will be 23.
I will be in earnest prayer for answers regarding both young women as well as for your comfort and healing.
God bless you and watch over you.

I will be in earnest prayer for answers regarding both young women as well as for your comfort and healing.
God bless you and watch over you.

I need to make a correction to the post quoted above.......seems I am certainly not at my best at 4 AM.
The future mother-in-law of Maura is Sharon. I was thinking back to one year ago when we did the Circle of Hope for Maura's birthday. This was also the time that Joanna went missing.
For those of you who know me and took the time to contact me, thank you for bringing my error to my attention. I know that Maura's case is confusing as it is without me muddying the waters.
I am so sorry for thinking faster than I type and the resulting confusion

New Information in the Search for Joanna Rogers
Lubbock Sheriff's Investigators have a list of at least 100 people they would like to question. Those people had some kind of contact with Joanna Rogers online inside chat rooms. NewsChannel 11 spoke with the Rogers family who says they were well aware of their daughter's online activity.
"Joanna had friends and just like any normal teenager she would chat online," said Joanna's sister-in-law Daizy Duede. She recalls that Joanna chatted online a lot when she was 14 years old and had a long list of friends on her buddy list. "We talked about how liked to make a list of people we didn't want to talk to and put them on block on our buddy list," said Duede.
Investigators are now pulling the names of those people and tracking them down. So far criminal investigator Greg Parrott says they have contacted 10 people. Parrott says no one was able to provide any new information. "We have been able to identify user names with actual addresses and names," said Parrott.
Months ago, the FBI placed information on their website that says Joanna would chat with older men. Parrott suspects she may have met them outside the Internet.
Joanna's mother Kathy Rogers believes every option should be explored by the investigators but says there is no evidence linking her daughter's disappearance to an online relationship. "She didn't spend that much time online. She was not online the day she disappeared so we know that someone didn't pop up and say meet me out in 15 minutes," said Kathy.
The Sheriff's Office says they will contact every person on Joanna's buddy list and that their investigation may take them as far as New York and Florida. But they are still asking locally as well for anyone that may have chatted online with a 16-year-old girl that fits the profile of Joanna Rogers to contact investigators at 775-1406. Otherwise, Parrott says they will eventually find those they need to talk to.

Kathy writes, "May was very difficult for us, with the 1st anniversary of Jo's disappearance and all of her friends graduating from High School, but we continue to search and follow leads with the eternal hope that we can bring Joanna home. If there is someone reading this that knows where Joanna is, or knows how to get in touch with her please help us bring her home. We love her and miss her and pray each day that she will return to us safely. Thanks for your support and God Bless.""

News from the family website:
"Friday, July 29, 2005: It has been well over a year since Joanna disappeared. She will have had her 18th birthday. Her classmates have graduated from high school. She should have been starting college next month. No credible leads of which we are aware have presented themselves. The search for Joanna Rogers continues.
Joanna's mother passed this information on recently:
"Just wanted to share a little good news. A National Center for Missing and Exploited Children representative called yesterday and said that Joanna's picture and information is scheduled to appear briefly on a segment of ABC's Extreme Makeover: Home Improvement on August 14.
This segment is about a home makeover for Colleen Nick who's 7 year old daughter Morgan was abducted from a baseball field 10 years ago. Neither Morgan or her abductor have never been found. The National Center is working with the producers of the show to feature several other missing persons, and Joanna is scheduled to be one of them.
I am a little hesitant to say much just yet because the date for the program's airing has changed at least twice, and we are very familiar with TV's abrupt schedule and programming changes so this is what we know now, and hopefully Joanna will get some national exposure soon."
Our fingers are crossed that the spot airs, and someone, somewhere will remember something that leads to Joanna."

UPDATE - Wednesday, August 10, 2005: In response to a tip received by the bringjohome.info web page, indicating that Joanna may be in the Phoenix/Tempe AZ area, the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children has distributed Joanna's information to Wal-Marts in August in Arkansas, Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Oregon and Washington. This is one of the many programs that NCMEC undertakes to help families find missing children. NCMEC distributes Joanna's information on a monthly basis to their Photo Partners in the Texas region, but this is the first time they have contacted Photo Partners in the western states. A family friend living near Tempe has also agreed to distribute posters to places in Tempe where college age kids congregate, and contact Arizona State University campus security and provide them with information about Joanna. Joanna's mother contacted registrars at several of the local colleges to see if by some slim chance Joanna may have registered for school using her own Social Security number, but there was no record of anyone using that SS#.
Joanna is also scheduled to be profiled on ABC's "Extreme Makeover: Home Improvement" on Sunday, August 14th. She will be among several other missing person cases to be highlighted during this two hour program. If Joanna is in the Phoenix/Tempe area this double shot of exposure may help bring her home.

So hard to believe that there hasn't been a trace of the missing girls. I wonder why LE doesn't believe there is any connection between Joanna and Jennifer as they went missing 10 weeks apart and neither have been heard from since?

A Message from Joanna's mom, Kathy:
"I just got the official word this afternoon that the missing children segment on the daytime talk show The Maury Povich Show featuring Joanna will be airing on Tuesday October 25. The show airs on CBS here, and they have a website www.mauryshow.com. If you are interested in watching you can check there and enter your zip code to see what time and channel it comes on in your area. The segment will be 5 to 7 minutes long (we hope) and will be the longest exposure Joanna's case has had on national television since she disappeared.
Joanna has been featured briefly (picture and contact information mostly, 30 seconds or less) on several national news shows and syndicated programs like "Beyond Missing" and "Extreme Makeover:Home Improvement" but we have not had any leads from any of that publicity. So while we are not getting our hopes up too high, there is still a chance that something will come from the exposure."

Authorities Name Primary Suspect in Joanna Rogers Case
Posted: 12/22/05
Authorities have named a suspect in the disappearance of Joanna Rogers. An Amber Alert was issued for the sixteen-year-old on May 6th, 2004. Investigators are now calling Rosendo Rodriguez a primary suspect in the case. He's the same man charged with capital murder in the death of another Lubbock woman.
NewsChannel 11 first uncovered the connection between Joanna Rogers and Rosendo Rodriguez weeks ago, but we held the information at the request of the Lubbock County Sheriff's department so we would not hinder their investigation. Thursday, county authorities are talking on camera for the first time naming Rodriguez as the primary suspect in Joanna's disappearance.

On Thursday, investigators spoke with KLBK-13 about a link between Rosendo Rodriguez III, 25, and the disappearance of Joanna Rogers, 16.
Rodriguez was indicted in September for the murder of Summer Baldwin, 29.
Investigators believe Rodriguez and Rogers were acquainted through the internet. Both of their names were found on each other`s computers. Authorities say that was the beginning; now they say they have enough evidence to name Rodriguez as an official suspect in Rogers` disappearance.
It has been 19 months since Rogers was last seen alive. Since her disappearance, the Lubbock County Sheriff`s Department have questioned a number of suspects. But they`ve never released one`s identity to the public ... until now.
"With the circumstances surrounding Mr. Rodriguez, at this point in time, we believe he is a good suspect for Rogers` disappearance," says Lubbock Chief Deputy Paul Scarborough.
Scarborough says they found Rodriguez`s name on Rogers` computer shortly after she disappeared. Investigators came face to face with Rodriguez in mid-September when he was arrested for the murder of Summer Baldwin, whose body was found strangled and beaten in a suitcase at a Lubbock landfill.
Just days after Rodriguez was taken into custody, another clue surfaced reegarding Rogers` disappearance.
"We have a link with Rosendo Rodriguez with the forensics that was done on his computer with the Joanna Rogers case," says Scarborough.
Scarborough says Joanna`s name showed up on Rodriguez`s hard drive.
Joanna`s mother, Cathy Rogers, says she never heard her daughter mention him.

Rosendo Rodriguez III, a former Texas Tech student, was indicted in October on capital murder and aggravated sexual assault charges in the deaths of Summer Baldwin, 29, and her unborn child. Baldwin's body was found stuffed into a suitcase dumped in a landfill.
Investigators linked Rodriguez to the case through a bar code on the suitcase.
Lubbock County Sheriff's Chief Deputy Paul Scarborough said Rodriguez is also now a suspect in the disappearance of Joanna Rogers, 16, who vanished from her home in May 2004.
Authorities initially discounted any link between the cases, but Scarborough said investigators found Rogers' name on Rodriguez' e-mail list while searching his computer in the Baldwin murder investigation. His name was also on the teen's e-mail list, authorities said.
"We are doing some further investigation in that area," he said, adding that authorities were pursuing other possible connections between Rodriguez and the missing teen.
In the Baldwin murder case, a judge is expected to rule on a motion to dismiss Rodriguez' defense attorney.
Lubbock County Assistant District Attorney Tray Payne argued at a Thursday hearing that lawyer Albert Rodriguez could not defend the murder suspect because he had handled two knives being used as evidence.
But the defense attorney testified that the knives were never in his possession.

I'm not positive but I think it was the attorney Rodriguez who was mentioned as calling Mr. Rogers because Nancy mentioned that he was not related to the murder suspect. I am now wondering if this suspect could be involved in the murder of a young prostitute just the month before Joanna went missing. There was another prostitute murdered the year before also and she was strangled and beaten. Not that Joanna Rogers would be in any way connected to these women, but I have wondered for several years if a predator or serial killer might be around Lubbock since the disappearance and several murders of young women.

I wonder if the fbi ever looked into the possibility that the baldwin girls email might have been on his computer also. since he stuffed this woman into a suitcase and disposed of her in a landfill, he may have done the same with this young ladys body. these perps tend to follow the same habit of disposing of their victims. sounds to me like this fellow was certainly on the path of a serial killer and used the internet as the lure to get to them. has le ever used cadaber dogs at the landfill in the rogers case? how else could they have each others email address? sounds like that a chat room is a possible connection

I would think that LE in that county and the surrounding countys would all be taking a look at their missing women over the last few years and seeing if they don't somehow connect to this awful man. It sounds like he did murder Joanna. I wish he would just tell LE how many women he has murdered...who they are...and what he did with them. He is going to prison for the rest of his life or will get the death penalty so he should just tell LE everything. Of course he won't though. You would think that since they found the one woman there, and thinking he might be related to the disappearance of the other two, that LE would undertake the search of the land fill. It may be however that too much time has gone by.

Deputies Find Hand In Yellowhouse Canyon
Lubbock County sheriff`s officials found a human hand in the area of Yellowhouse Canyon where other remains were found last week.
Last Thursday, two passers-by found a human skull off of FM 835 near the Slaton Highway. Then on Friday, sheriff`s officials found what they believe to be the remains from the rest of the body, lying about 10 feet away from where the skull was found.
"We need to know cause of death," says Lubbock County Sheriff David Gutierrez. "We need to know if (this person`s) death was at the scene, or if it was somewhere else. There`s a lot of information that we have not found yet."
Many questions remain unanswered in the case of human remains found in Yellowhouse Canyon last week. But Tuesday, officials got one more clue: a human hand found at the scene.
"We`re always looking and I think they found some additional items from the body, but there is still no conclusion from the autopsy," says Sheriff Gutierrez.
The medical examiner`s office started that autopsy on Saturday. Now, they`re waiting for an anthropologist to help examine the bones. They expect to have preliminary results before the end of the week.
In the meantime, officials are looking at every piece of evidence found at the scene for clues about the victim`s identity.
"There was one piece of clothing that is primarily worn by males, but in this day and age, you never know," says Gutierrez. "Male and females wear sometimes the same clothing."
"The clothing will give a lot of information about whether it`s an adult or child," says Corporal John Gonzalez, with the Texas Department of Public Safety. "Hopefully (that piece of evidence) is still intact."
Something else officials say might help them solve this case is DPS` state-wide Missing Person`s Database. Corporal Gonzalez says aside from looking into the 2004 disappearances of Joanna Rogers and Jennifer Wilkerson, two Lubbock County women missing since 2004, they`re also searching the state`s records for other cases.
"We hold that information and dispurse it out to other agencies so that way, people will be on the lookout," he says.
"I know the investigative division has already pulled up some names that had been reported missing over the last three or four years and are looking at those," says Gutierrez.
The sheriff`s office is treating the area where the bones were found as a crime scene. The area will be secured until the autopsy is complete.

Rodriguez A Suspect In Missing Lubbock Teenager Case
For the first time, a suspect is named in the case of a missing Lubbock teenager. The man, Rosendo Rodriguez III, is already in jail on murder charges.
KAMC-28 first told you on Wednesday about police investigating a possible link between Rodriguez and the disappearance of Joanna Rogers.
That connection was never expected to come out. However, it did Wedesday in a bond reduction hearing for Rodriguez. So on Thursday, the Lubbock Sheriff`s Department explained just what was meant when a Lubbock detective said Rodriguez was being investigated in the disappearance of Rogers.
"I would say they knew each other through electronic communication," said Lubbock Chief Deputy Paul Scarborough, about Rodriguez`s name being found on Rogers` computer just after she disappeared.
It has been 19 months since the 16-year-old went missing.
In September, when Rodriguez was arrested for the murder of Summer Baldwin, his computer was searched. Scarborough says Rogers` name was found on it.
"Based on circumstances with the Baldwin case and the information we have, aside from the computer link, he came to the forefront as a reasonable suspect," he says.
What that other information is, Scarborough will not say.
Does the Lubbock Sheriff`s Department think there was a relationship between Rodriguez and Rogers? "I really am not at liberty to go into that at this point," says Scarborough. "It is an ongoing investigation and we have had some contact with Rosendo`s attorney."
Kathy Rogers, Joanna`s mother, says she has never heard of Rosendo Rodriguez.
"He doesn`t look familiar to me," she says. "The name doesn`t sound familiar. He`s never been to my house. He`s not familiar at all."
The new break gives Mrs. Rogers hope she will soon find Joanna.
"It does change my perspective on things suddenly, like what will happen when and if we find her," she says. "We get used to things as they are, and then suddenly, I have to switch gears.
"I feel like this is the first decent lead since Joanna disappeared."
Late Thursday, a Marine Corps discharge board decided to discharge Rodriguez from the Marine Reserves. It took more than six hours for the panel of three to come to the decision. It was a 2-1 vote to remove Rodriguez, who will leave with a less than honorable discharge.
During the hearing, KAMC-28 heard more detailed information about what Rodriguez told police about the night Summer Baldwin died. He says he and Baldwin went to the Holiday Inn on Avenue Q to have consentual sex. After doing so, he says Baldwin pulled out a crack pipe. Rodriguez says he then grabbed it from her because he does not believe in drugs. According to him, that`s when Baldwin pulled out a knife and attacked him. Rodriguez tells police he then put her in a choke hold and that`s when she died.
A decision to reduce Rodriguez`s bond, which stands at $1 million is expected after the first of the year. Also at that time, Judge Jim Bob Darnell will decide if Rodriguez can keep his defense counsel.

When kids have been missing as long as Joanna and Jenny have, their lives must be filled with long periods of loss and emptyness- interspersed with quick periods where a body is found, and while waiting to see if it matches their missing person, a period of hope mingled with dread.
The only consolation is that when a body is found, there are often brief periods of media interest as if this, the unidentified remains sparks an interest in about the unsolved disappearances. A very sad system we have here.

The area will be secured until the autopsy is complete.
the remains were that of a young man between the ages of 12 and 20, hispanic or african american decent, police agencies are scouring missing persons records now in hopes to identify.

Rosendo Rodriquez's dad is an attorney , so I bet that this case takes a very long time to sort out and that he never confesses to a thing, hurting other girls, or to even knowing Joanna online unless he can be linked physically by some dna evidence.

its going to be hard for him to explain the fact that her email information was on his computer and hers as well, in fact the contact information was stored in the address portion of his computer, so they have at least had online correspondance in some way or another, he can deny it all he wants, but there is only one story to the truth, and he's not telling it.

Skeletal Remains Found in Kent County
Investigators are trying to identify a new set of skeletal remains. Kent County sheriff's deputies made the discovery in the northeast portion of Kent County on Friday. A tip given last Monday led them to the site. The remains are believed to be female and are now in custody of the Lubbock County Medical Examiner's Office. Both Kent County Sheriff's Department and the Texas Rangers are investigating.
There are currently no missing persons cases in Kent County. However there are still two outstanding missing person cases in Lubbock. Both Joanna Rogers and Jennifer Wilkerson have been missing since the summer of 2004. Again, the remains have yet to be identified.

Geez! Why are there so many dead bodies turing up in Lubbock? Is the crime rate that high or is it a convienient dumping ground? Creeps me out!
The remains were found in Kent County, which is about 75 miles from Lubbock, the local media kind of screwed up in their reporting.
But, to the point, we do have quite a few bodies turning up near here, our crime rate isn't out of the norm, there are alot of open spaces covered by brush that seem to be convenient to dispose of bodies.

The population is around 200,000. In my many years of living here there have been some pretty gruesome and bizarre murders, some unsolved but I don't think that the crime rate is all that bad compared to other towns this size. The missing girls happening at the same time as girls turning up murdered is what I find so disturbing. The fact that bodies are found is encouraging and I don't think that bodies could go undiscovered around here for years and years if just laying out in a field somewhere. Someone will eventually come across them just like happened with the young man near Buffalo Lake.

A Message from Joanna's mother:
"Just to let you know that CBS has contacted me and they plan to profile Joanna's case on "Without a Trace" tonight, and are planning to feature her case on the CBS Early Show on Friday morning to reinforce the exposure she received on Thursday night. Plans are to air the segment between 7:20 and 7:40 am Eastern, Central and Pacific time. I will be available to talk to them also.
Thanks and God Bless,

I knew they always showed one or more posters of the missing on Without a Trace, but just recently learned that they were doing a followup on the Early show. I think it is great that they are doing that, and by the two different time periods- it doubles the exposure as the early show catches the daytime people and Without a Trace catches the night time people.
Kudos to CBS for this.

I cant help but think that Joanna planned on sneaking out that night to meet someone probably a male. At 16 girls can be eager for adventure. I know I left my house thru my bedroom window to meet my boyfriend down the street and I never took any of my personal belongings with me.
I hope LE can figure out the connection between her and Rodriquez. This is a potentialy, good lead. The thing I find puzzling is most girls confide in at least 1 girlfriend and no one has come forward with any solid information. If Joanna was having contact with Rodriquez or any other older male wouldn't she share it with someone? I couldn't wait to tell my best friend about my adventures. I have a strong feeling someone knows something and she is keeping quiet for some strange reason. I hope and pray this case gets solved.

Mother Agonizes Over Missing Teen
NEW YORK, Jan. 20, 2006
(CBS) Joanna Rogers was 16-years-old and had everything to live for. Instead, the active and ambitious high school student is a missing person. And while her parents hold out hope for her safe return, police have reason to fear the worst.
In May 2004, Joanna disappeared from the bedroom of her home in Lubbock, Texas. Her parents were the last to see her and her mother still remembers their final conversation the night before her daughter vanished without a trace.
In an interview withThe Early Show co-anchor Rene Syler, Kathy Rogers recalled Joanna speaking of the advanced placement test she had taken that morning and about plans for her upcoming dance recital.
"We just very briefly went over what our schedule was," Kathy Rogers recalled. "And she said, 'I love you,' and we said 'We love you and good night.' "

Investigators were stumped until last September, when a different case led them to a man named Rosendo Rodriguez. Rodriguez, 25, was charged with the murder of another woman from Lubbock, Summer Baldwin.
Police later found Joanna's name on Rodriguez' computer and his name on hers. Now investigators consider him a key suspect in Joanna's disappearance.
"With the circumstances surrounding Mr. Rodriguez at this point in time, we believe he's a relatively good suspect for the Joanna Rogers disappearance," said Paul Scarborough of the Lubbock County Sheriff's Department.

I am heartbroken. Not another one. I have worked with this family since the beginning.
They gave more info on the 5 pm news. They said he killed her shortly after she disappeared and also dumped her in the landfill. It's all in the air right now, his confession for Joanna is part of a plea bargain on the Baldwin case to avoid the death penalty. They don't know whether or not they will search the landfill again due to the amount of trash that has been piled in over the last 2 years. IMO I think they should, give Joanna's parents the peace of knowing where she is buried.
Now I wonder if he also had something to do with Jennifer Wilkerson and the other 3 women they found murdered on farm roads.

This is horrible. The Rogers family probably had hope that Joanna was still alive. Rosendo is in his mid twenties I believe and was from San Antonio. He could be involved in other cases there and here in Lubbock. Summer Baldwin was pregnant when murdered and placed into the suitcase and left at the landfill, so it is a shame that the freak couldn't confess but instead plead to get out of a death penalty.
he is 26 according to the news.
KAMC-28 has received information from several source who say that 26-year-old Rosendo Rodriguez III has confessed to investigators of murdering the Lubbock teenager.
On Tuesday afternoon, Rodriguez confessed to investigators and Lubbock County District Attorney Matt Powell that he killed Rogers.
The confession comes out as part of negotiations of a plea deal involving Rodriguez in the murder of 29-year-old Summer Baldwin. Baldwin was found dead, stuffed in a suitcase, at the Lubbock landfill in September 2005. Rodriguez was arrested two days after the discovery at his parents` home in San Antonio.

Joanna Rogers' Family Speaks Out About Alleged Murder Confession
http://www.kcbd.com/Global/story.asp?S=5002891&nav=3w6y
Rogers Family Seeks Hard Evidence After New Report
The Rogers family tells us they want hard evidence before accepting a confession from an accused murderer. Sources tell Newschannel 11 that Rosendo Rodriguez has confessed to the murder of Joanna Rogers.
She's been missing since May of 2004. Rodriguez is the same man who's charged with capital murder in the death of Summer Baldwin. Baldwin's body was found inside a suitcase at the city landfill last September. Now, Rodriguez is allegedly confessing to killing Rogers and putting her body in one suitcase, her clothes in another and dumping the suitcases in different dumpsters. Wednesday's news comes as the Lubbock district attorney's office is negotiating with Rodriguez.
The reported confession also comes just 13 days after the Rogers family made this plea on NewsChannel 11 in honor of Missing Children's Day. Joanna's parents said on May 25, 2006, "If Joanna is out there, we love her and we miss her. If we could send a message to Joanna, everybody hurts cause she's not here. If you know where she is please tell us."
NewsChannel 11's Jennifer Vogel visited the Roger's home in South Lubbock, and asks them, about their visit with the District Attorney Wednesday morning.
The Rogers did visit the district attorney's office this morning, but they were told, this confession might not be the end of the story of their missing teen. We spoke with Joanna's parents and as expected, they are hurt, angry, confused and even a little relieved.
"We don't know all the details, and we don't want them to be honest with you." Two years after 16-year-old Joanna disappeared from her home, her parents learn she might not ever come back alive. "I've been dealing with that fact for months now, and it's not surprising to me. It's disappointing that it's getting close to be true."
Kathy and Joe Bill Rogers learned back in December that a man named Rosendo Rodriguez, an accused murderer, might be a suspect in their own daughter's disappearance. Rodriguez is charged with the murder of Summer Baldwin. Now, sources say Rosendo confessed to killing Joanna.
"I don't assume he's telling the truth until we have firm evidence... unfortunately, I still feel skepticism. Is he just doing this to save himself?"
The District Attorney says they are negotiating with Rodriguez, but will not comment on the case as it is an ongoing investigation. But whatever news may come, Kathy and Joe Bill stand by their mission to 'Bring Jo Home.' Joe Bill says, "If I could have my daughter back alive, I just want her back however it happens." Kathy says, "We want to bring her back and bring justice to Joanna and Summer."
Of course, Kathy is talking about bringing justice to her daughter Joanna, and Summer, the victim allegedly killed by Rosendo back in September.
Another Lubbock woman is missing. Jennifer Wilkerson was last seen July 13, 2004. Back in March, authorities used cadaver dogs to search for Wilkerson or any evidence on a 160 acre property northwest of Reese Technology Center. A body was not found but evidence found at the scene is still being processed for dna.
There is no known connection to Jennifer Wilkerson as I confirmed with her family.

Nancy Grace is on and mentioned the other murders one month before and one year before the disappearance of Joanna. There has been no mention of these yet being connected and now there is a serial rapist here in town. I agree with Joanna's dad about wanting evidence and I hope that Joanna's remains can somehow still be found if out at the landfill. Someone brought up the subject of whether or not cadaver dogs were used to search the place back at the time of disappearance but I've not been able to find out one way or other. Does Kelly or anyone who has worked with the family know?

Volunteers Say They're Ready To Search City Landfill
Posted: 6/8/06
A search of the Lubbock City Landfill would take a lot of time, and a lot of man power. It would also be an expensive process. Volunteer members of United Response Search and Rescue out of Dallas say they are ready to help. The group has done a lot of research into how a landfill search would work. Director and Co-Founder Dana Ames says she doesn't know if local law enforcement will for sure search the Lubbock landfill, but she says volunteers are ready.
"A landfill search is a very difficult, tedious, time consuming, expensive process. It's one that you don't enter into lightly. It is extremely dangerous for all individuals who would participate in that," said Ames. Ames says searchers would need to wear protective garments that can cost a lot of money. The search group is looking into possible fund raisers, or people who could donate that gear.
While the search centers around Joanna Rogers, Ames says their search group always looks for Jennifer Wilkerson as well. The Lubbock woman disappeared on July 13th of 2004. Ames says when ever they are on a search, or receive a tip, the group treats that information as if it could be used to find both missing girls. Ames says the Wilkerson family's hearts goes out to the Rogers family. "They have mixed emotions as well. Their hearts are absolutely broken for the Rogers. In a way they feel a sense of resolve as well for them, but then that also comes back and instills that further fear that they face every day knowing this could be the same fate for their child," said Ames.
If you have any information on either of these cases that would be helpful to police, call Crime Line at (806) 741-1000.
It's been almost a year since investigators searched the city landfill following the discovery of Summer Baldwin's body. John Cobb at the Lubbock City Landfill tells NewsChannel 11 that after Baldwin was discovered, crews decided to stop dumping in that area. Cobb says it wasn't a legal request; he says they did it because they thought they should.

I was mainly wondering if dogs had been used to search the landfill in the first few days after Joanna went missing. If Summer Baldwin was found by a worker, surely dogs trained to search could have found the suitcase. I remember reading a quote by Mrs. Rogers mentioning that she wished dogs had been used sooner but I took it to mean search dogs tracking the scent around the home.

A statement from the family:
"We want to thank everyone who has supported us in our effort to Bring Joanna Home. We, and law enforcement are reasonably certain Rosendo was involved in Joanna's disappearance, however after watching his statement yesterday on video, I don't believe he is telling the truth about the how, where, when and why. That being said, I refuse to give credence to his words by restating them or putting them out there for discussion. So we would just ask people to keep in mind that not everything that comes across the TV and newspaper is necessarily true or verified.
Joe Bill and I sincerely believe that the Sheriff's office and the District Attorney and his team are doing everything possible to follow up on what Rosendo has told them, and more importantly to secure justice for Summer Baldwin and Joanna, and Bring Joanna Home. For now, we are going to step back, keep quiet and allow the DA and Sheriff's office to do their jobs. It may take weeks or even months, but they are committed to bringing closure to us and to this case, and seeing justice done.
We also know the truth about what a vibrant, passionate and loving soul Joanna is. We refuse to allow Rosendo to tarnish or steal those thoughts and memories from us.
Thanks again so much for keeping us in your thoughts and prayers.
Love and God Bless,
Kathy and Joe Bill Rogers"

An update from the family:
"Update - Sunday, June 18th, 2006:
There have been no announcements by local law enforcement authorities as to when and if they plan to open the local landfill. This landfill is a regional facility, pulling in refuse from not only the City of Lubbock, but also from many smaller communities in a much larger geographic area. Although the landfill does keep detailed records, including grids of where refuse was buried on any given day, a search is not as easy as it might appear on first thought. Opening a landfill of this size is an extremely complicated matter with significant health and safety hazards, such as methane gas accumulation and the anaerobic bacteria endemic in the buried refuse. A great deal of planning and coordination between agencies needs to be put into place to ensure the safety of those undertaking such a search. Heavy equipment and protective clothing would definitely be required.
For those not familiar with the Lubbock area, temperatures in the daytime in the summer can easily (and often do) reach into the low 100Fs, hot enough to be dangerous for those engaged in outside work in the best of circumstances. Similar searches in other communities in the southwestern USA have taken many weeks, and they have not always been successful. It will take time to work out the logistics, should the authorities decide to move forward with a search. We hope your thoughts and prayers will guide them to the right decisions.
Should plans be announced or a call for search volunteers be made, we will post the information here just as soon as we receive it. You may also wish to visit the United Response Search and Rescue website for additional information.
We regret that we have no additional information to pass along to you at this time. All the parties (law enforcement officials and legal personnel) involved in the prosecution of Mr. Rodriguez for the killing of Summer Baldwin and her unborn child are under a judge's gag order and are not allowed to comment on the case or any related matters. Should they make any public statements regarding Joanna, we will post them here immediately.
Your thoughts and prayers for Joanna and her family are greatly appreciated."
The Lubbock County Sheriff`s Office will dig for the body of missing teen Joanna Rogers. On Thursday, Governor Rick Perry approved a large sum of money to be used in the search for the now 18-year-old`s body. After Lubbock County Sheriff David Gutierrez requested funds to find Rogers` body, Governor Perry approved $100,000 for the dig.
"Based on the investigation and landfill records, we believe we can identify the area that is roughly 100-feet-by-150-feet in area, and 24-feet underground," says Captain Don Carter, with the Lubbock County Sheriff`s Office.
The city-owned landfill is where accused killer Rosendo Rodriguz III says Rogers` body is. It`s also the same place 29-year-old Summer Baldwin`s body was found almost a year ago. Rodriguez has confessed and is charged with her murder.
"Obviously, we do feel that the information that has led us to this point is valid enough to make this attempt and that`s a big step," says Captain Carter.
Carter hopes to start the search next week, a search that certainly spells danger because of methane gases in the compressed debris in the landfill. He says approximately 30 sheriff`s officers will assist in the search, wearing protective gear. There will be no volunteers, but specialized equipment will be used.
"There`s a couple of different phases," explains Carter. "The first phase has to do with moving roughly 5,000 cubic yards of debris. The second (phase) is doing detailed searches of that particular portion of the ground."

Joanna will be found at abernathy. at least she will be recovered and taken home to her family and friends. My heart and prayers go out to all that know Jo.
I was brought into this in a way I can not tell anyone, no one would believe it anyway.
Jo will always be a part of my life and I have to thank her for touching me in the way she did, she had faith in me when I had none. She gave me the strength to do what had to be done and put the people in my life that needed to be there.
Jo you will never be forgotten. You are all our children.
This will always be Jo's story not the animal that took her from us all.
I'm here Jo, I'm waiting with u. SOON SWEETHEART SOON.

The funds to return Jo should have been released much sooner. If everyone knew the whole story they would be jumping up and down.
If Jo were your child would you want her to spend another minute waiting for officials to vote money to find her??? Thats exactly what her parents had to do.
There is no needle in a haystack there is information on her location its just a matter of time. I wish too that all involved stay safe in their search.
You also have another missing.............Jennifer..................now its her time to ask for help returning home. Pray for her and her family..............................
Abernathy is a graveyard and no one knows it. What other secrets does it hold???

Boy, this will be like looking for a needle in a haystack. I give LE tons of credit for going ahead and getting the money to do this especially as it is dangerous. I hope all of the people searching stay safe and that they find Joanna. Lord, allow a miracle to happen for Joanna's parents.
Luckily the landfill keeps very precise records on everything. They have it narrowed down to a very small section, in comparison to how large it could have been. I hope and pray that they do find her and bring peace to Jo's parents.
They began the search in the landfill this morning. It is estimated to take up to 4 weeks. Prayers for Jo and her family.
The search for the remains of a Lubbock teen is underway at the Lubbock landfill. Joanna Rogers went missing in May 2004.
Investigators believe Rogers` body is at the landfill because of a confession by Rosendo Rodriguez III, who says he killed the 16-year-old, stuffed her body in a suitcase and dumped it there.
Thanks to landfill records and dates pinpointed by investigators, the Lubbock Sheriff`s Office blocked off an area at the landfill where they believe Rogers` body may be located.

Info update on the search.

Last weekend we received close to 4 inches of rain and the search came to a halt until it is dry enough to resume. The weather never cooperates does it?

Does it dry out pretty fast? Now if that was going on here in Washington state they would have to wait until next spring...if they were lucky :)
They resumed the search yesterday, we don't receive much rain at all in these parts Bobbisangel. I think our normal yearly average is around 10 to 12 inches. LOL Welcome to the desert.
They found newspapers with dates and that caused them to move over a little in the spot where they are searching. I keep hoping and praying that it is done quickly to finally put Jo at rest. I really can't see them doing this unless Rosendo Rodriguez was given a lie detector test for some kind of credibility.

Prayers to the volunteer workers that they find Joanna quickly. If she is not there I vote they put him at the bottom of the landfill, and fill it back in.

OK, so we are going to do it then. We'll have to figure out a place to meet and everyone remember to bring your shovel. Plan on staying at least a week or two cause that is a lot of garbage to shovel back. We won't want to use a backhoe cause that would get the job done to fast. I think we can just bind his wrists and ankles together...gag him...throw him out in the middle of the hole and then start shoveling. We can bet he will never hurt another woman

Rodriquez has not lived up to his plea agreement, now won't plead guilty, so is being charged with the death penalty.

When is trial? Is it going on now?I think he must have blamed Joanne for making him kill her. Her parents were very upset that he was maligning her. I noticed he blamed Summer for making him kill her. He said she was smoking crack and then she started trying to stab him. I doubt if that was the way it went at all. He is a serial killer and a liar.
