CONNORSVILLE, Ind. -- A Brookville man who disappeared in 1993 has been found alive and well in Mississippi.

Indiana state police said Detective Scott Jarvis reopened a missing person case last summer involving Monty Stutzman.

Stutzman, then 23, had been on probation for a burglary charge and also had a warrant for theft of five gallons of gas when he disappeared.

Troopers said Jarvis talked with family members and collected DNA from them to test against a national database.

The DNA search came up empty, but during the investigation, Jarvis discovered someone had gotten a South Carolina driver's license in the 1990s using Stutzman's Social Security number.

From that event, Jarvis was able to track Stutzman to Courtland, Miss.

Local police there interviewed a man and determined it was indeed Stutzman, living under an assumed name and Social Security number.

Thanks Hoppy! I edited the title to add the prefix so it would match all the others.

Thanks! I couldn't figure out how to make it red instead of black.

Mother and son reunited after 16 years of uncertainty

March 26, 2009

This past Friday, Carol reunited with her son in Mississippi. She saw his home, met his wife, his step children. And was quite proud of the life her son had made for himself. She says the 16 years melted away.

“He said, ‘no regrets Mom, we’re not going to look back. We’re going to look forward. We’ve already wasted time and we’re not going to waste anymore,” said Carol Therrien.

She says she harbors no bitterness that he didn’t visit or even call to say he was okay. She says she’s let it all go.
