View Full Version : Suspect in rape of 11 yr old beaten by neighbors
http://www.nbcphiladelphia.com/news/local/11-Year-Old-Girl-Raped.html
The victim had just dropped her younger sister off at daycare and was walking to school along Kensington Avenue. The man followed her, grabbed her and forced her to walk six or seven blocks away. He pulled her down an alley near the intersection of Jasper and E. Westmoreland Streets, threatened to "shoot her" if she screamed and sexually assaulted her with such force she had to undergo surgery, according to the Daily News (http://www.philly.com/philly/news/homepage/20090602_11-year-old_raped_on_way_to_school.html?cmpid=16339736).
The man had entered the daycare with the girl, her mother said Tuesday. She is baffled as to why daycare officials allowed him inside.
A passerby saw the little girl sobbing and bleeding on the sidewalk about 9:45 a.m. and called police. Investigators aren't sure if the attacker fled or if she somehow escaped.
"Quite frankly, right now, the account we have is from a very traumatized young girl," said Capt. Darby.
The girl was hospitalized for her injuries and remained in stable condition Tuesday, police said.

This was a particularily vicious crime against a child.. the neighbors deserve a pat on the back for capturing this guy.. Oh and once again its a guy who is well known to the police and who has a laundry list of crimes on his record including a prior suspected rape charge that was later dropped.
I just hope that this poor little girl can recover from such a traumatic rape.. however I suspect she is going to have alifetime of damage to deal with as a result.
We need a little more of this in some of these cities. I am not a fan of vigilante justice but sometimes I think its warrented. The citizens need to be more active in capturing these losers..

This is sickening. That poor girl. When is the justice system going to realize that a person with a record like this is Dangerous?
Unless I missed something, the article doesn't say much about the neighbors beating him up....good--I'm glad they did it.

Bet he gets a lot more of it once he's behind bars, too. Couldn't happen to a nicer guy. :furious:

Ever since I lived in Tombstone, Arizona... im all for vigilante justice
They know how to take care of things out there
i want to know the REAL reason judges arent harder on these DF's
It says in the link in the first post ---
Police grabbed Carrasquillo at Front and Clearfield Streets in Kensington. He was taken to Temple University Hospital with unspecified injuries suffered after being beaten by members of the neighborhood near where the rape happened. - he was taken to the hospital in critical condition.
I, too, am all in favor of vigilante justice.
As an aside - Kensington is a very very very tough neighborhood in Philly.
Critical condition due to numerous bumps on on the head.. I beleive the neighbors used wood to beat him in the head and face... I suspect that he is going get worse treatment if convicted which is likely due to the DNA they have linking him to the crime
a side note to this is that many of the police that have been murdered on duty in Philly were due to career criminals with backgrounds similar to this guys..

I pray for this little girl and her family. I hope she gets all the help she needs.
As for the vigilante justice...good for them. It's about time we let the criminals know that we're not going to sit back and take it anymore. Sometimes the punishment the law dishes out just isn't enough.

I surely hope they do not prosecute the neighbors :-)
Our justice system failed this little girl. This piece of crap should've been behind bars.

My heart goes out to the girl and her family. This is something she will have to live with the rest of her life. This POS will probably, unfortunately, recover.

For the little girl, my prayers that she makes it without too much physical damage. And that she gets that the love, support and counseling that she needs at this time.
For the POS. LOL, this is probably wrong. But YAY!!!! So many times I have wished that a POS could get back even a little of what he gave out. So happy to hear that this one did get some of it. I hope that it hurt like he!! and that he was scared for his life! I hope he cried and wet himself! I hope he begged!
If I was a cop, I am afraid that I might have trouble locating any suspects to his assault.

LOL; we had a homeless sex offender let loose here. He stayed in a parking lot for two nights and then decided to leave town; said he was "too afraid" to stay here anymore. Guess he wasn't able to sleep very well with all the rocks being thrown at his truck. That is how it SHOULD be everywhere!!!!! I can only commend these people. We MUST take care of our children; they are OUR future!

Hey, I want to move to this neighbourhood... for the neighbours. Good for them. My husband has often said "just once, if I caught a guy just once doing this, there'd never be another child harmed by at least that guy"...
When it comes to innocent children and violent crimes committed against them... burn the guy at the stake or hang him. Done, finished, bye bye, so long. "Officer, never saw a thing, never heard a thing, no idea whatcha talking about".

I live pretty close to where this happened. I was so happy to hear he was caught AND got the crap beat out of him. Sometimes I really do believe in Karma..

I think if there were more of these incidents there would be more fear of committing such crimes against children.. and many many eyes and forms of justice that most of these perps dont want to incur..
Too many times the neighbors dont see anything but enough is enough time to do what we need to to protect our kids and bring justice for those already victimized by scumbags like this. i for one am just heartbroken over the sheer number of children in the headlines that have been harmed or murdered by repeat offenders as well as by those who are supposed to love and protect them.. time for it to stop

I am torn here - I believe 100% this person deserved to be punished for his crimes I am just not sure an angry mob beating someone to critical condition with a 2 x 4 is the answer. Police are confident they got the right person and the radio this morning said they are proceeding with the criminal case. But I worry - what if it next time it is just someone who looks like the "guy in the grainy video."
As I said torn- I believe this couldn't have had a better ending but worry about the lengths this mob went to.

The people that beat him were on the news bragging. I hope this guy does not die because they will be going to jail with him.
Maybe if this type of thing happened for other crimes too, areas like Kensington wouldn't be so bad.

I wish we could see more of this. Years ago, neighborhoods/towns took care of the perverts and sex offenders and LE turned a blind eye. I come from a small village in Ireland where our local pervert was beaten regularly by the dads. That kept him in check.
These days the law seems to be on the side of the criminals.
How many cases do we see on a weekly/daily basis where a child is victimized by a SO with a record or is on parole for a sex offense?I am sickened daily by the news headlines.
Parents need to yell ENOUGH!
I would love to see an organised protest by parents at every state capital nationwide on the same day ,demanding absolutely NO PAROLE and harsher sentencing for sex offenders. We,the parents and gaurdians need to organise and demand that the laws better protect our children.
Anyone have any ideas on how we could organise such an event?
I recently became a US citizen and I'm trying to familairize myself with your laws. I wish crimes against children were a federal offense then we would'nt have to petition every state legislature for change. One common law for all child offenses would be so much easier.

I'm glad he got caught, and I don't feel too awful about the neighborhood having a crack at him before he was taken into custody. I wish him a speedy recovery so that he can face justice. Nothing can repair the damage he's done to that poor child.

I can't begin to explain how happy this made me. Maybe I'm jaded but I just don't care!
THIS is exactly what we need. The justice system doesn't scare these monsters-they could care less about going to prison (on the rare chance that they are actually caight and convicted). But I bet a SO will think twice before trying to find a victim in this neighborhood.

I live outside of Philly. The neighbors beat him up because his name was released to the media. They didn't beat him up based on the video. I am glad he got what he deserved. He has a long rap sheet and the people of Philly are at their breaking points with crimes against the chilcdren and elderly. If I was a cop and happened upon this beating, I would have driven up and then told everyone that I was going to drive around the block and when I come back that they should be done with the beating so I can cuff him and take him to jail and there would be no 'witnesses" tee hee
My prayers go out to the little girl and her family. I heard she needed surgery :*(

Mayor Nutter says the rape was a horrendous crime and he's glad the potential suspect is in custody:
"I'm glad that that part of the situation has been resolved. It will go forward through the normal criminal justice process. But it's a further demonstration that Philadelphians care passionately about the city, about our quality of life, and certainly about our children."

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — A man sought for questioning in the rape of an 11-year-old girl was upgraded to stable condition Wednesday, a day after he was severely beaten by angry neighbors who recognized him from a photo distributed by police.
Thankfully he has been upgraded and I can stop worrying about the neighbors getting charged.
My 18 yr old comes home everyday from school and watches HLN on CNN. He just said that they are reporting that the man beaten was wanted for questioning.
That does change things for me a bit. Initially I satisified that a man that had raped an 11 yr old girl had gotten his just deserts but now I can see a point my son made when he heard that...he said "Mom, they only announced he was wanted for questioning. What if the neighbors got the wrong guy and he wasn't the one that did it."
Good question~what if?
The LE probably as the right guy, but I have to backtrack now and say I hope and pray the man that was beaten was the actual perp. There is a possibility he isn't...slim but possible.
O/T but my son was the one that said that he agrees that the man that did rape that little girl got what he deserved but that it sounded to him like vigilante justice and he says that is a scary thing if the general public takes the laws into their own hands and thereby breaks the laws. He's a good kid, he's going in the Army soon. I'll miss him.

I can't support vigilante justice when the police hadn't had a chance to prosecute him yet. I know he has a rap sheet and that he was still on the streets so that may qualify for a lot of you, but as much as I understand it I can't support it. One reason I can't is because I had a lot of friends from this part of Philly. Part of the vigilante justice used in this city was beating hookers up because they felt hookers were ruining their town. Yes, there are slippery slopes.
I am all for citizens accosting suspects on their own though, and using some force to detain them. I am absolutely pro self-defense.
What we can do is try to fix the system by lobbying for better laws, writing to our representatives and not turning a blind eye to crimes in our neighborhoods.
http://cbs3.com/video/?id=81350@kyw.dayport.com
new video showing the approach of the perp and his following of the 2 girls on the way to the daycare.
When the suspect was caught he was still wearing shorts ( seen in video) underneath pants that were covered in blood they beleive was from the 11 yr old victim.. they are conducting DNA tests now... other evidence is mounting as well
The victim has been released from the hospital and is home with her family.
I hope that she recovers both physically and mentally. She will carry this psychological wound for the rest of her life. It may heal but it will always be there and it has changed her in that way, she will never again be the 11 yr old girl that she was before the attack.
God bless her.

This morning they interviewed the little girl's grandmother and mother. The little girl REQUESTED to watch the video of this man getting beaten by neighbors...it brought her some small sense of safety and satisfaction. That alone makes it more than okay in my book!
The mother said...nights are incredibly difficult for the girl and she isn't sleeping much. She had to have surgery to repair the damage this monster did to her.
I am THRILLED no charges will be brought against those that beat this POS

I heard on the radio this morning (sorry no link) that the "mob" put the "beat down" on another guy - they thought was the suspect earlier.
So although, it looks like they got the right guy the second time someone else was injured because he looked like this guy. I do think this slimebag got what he deserved but I also think we have police for a reason and I hope he doesn't get out on some technicality because of this.

You are right.
I know that vigiliantism (sp) is wrong. I have often talked about it being wrong. But yes, in this case I was happy to see that the perp got a beat down. Why? Because I am tired of seeing SO's being put on probation or put in jail for 6 mos. after they have raped a child. They serve so little time, yet the child may suffer for a lifetime. So if the court won't serve to punish them, then excuse me if I take a little pleasure in at least one recieving a little measure of the pain and fear that little girl felt.
Too many times after a rape the court seems to totally disregard the child's ongoing psychic pain. Why is the physicological damage not recognized by the court? Even the media? I have seen where kids were missing, later found and had been raped. And the media will essentially say they are 'okay' I have even seen media say they were 'uninjured.' Okay? Rape doesn't leave anyone okay, let alone a child. Yet unless they were beaten, stabbed or shot, they are considered okay? It is attitudes like that that allows the court to say "since the child wasn't injured, he gets probation."

This guy was a known SO. He deserved the beat down even before he raped that poor child IMHO. The media released his name and the neighbors knew where to find him. The neighbors confronted him and he took off, but they caught up with him and let him have it.
The police commisioner has decided no charges will be filed against the "angry mob"

The Philadelphia chapter of the Fraternal Order of Police had offered a reward in the rape case. FOP president John McNesby said two people who helped apprehend Carrasquillo will split the $11,500 reward. While saying he doesn't condone violence, McNesby said they should be commended.
