Police National Computer:
PNC holds details of people, vehicles, crimes and property that can be electronically accessed by the police and other criminal justice agencies. It is a national information system maintained and delivered by the NPIA

Automatic Number Plate Recongnition:
Reads vehicle number plates via cameras using optical character recognition software. The aim is to target criminals through their use of the roads.

Mobile Identification:
Mobile Identification allows police to use the image of a subjects fingerprints to check their identity in the street or elsewhere. Images are transmitted for searching over a secure connection to the National Fingerprint Collection (IDENT1).

Fingerprint Database:
NPIA is responsible for the National Fingerprint Database (IDENT1), providing the Police service in England, Scotland and Wales with a fingerprint identification system, with the capability to search palm prints and marks.
As of October 2008 the database held:
7.8 million individuals' ten-prints
16.6 million sets of ten-prints
1.75 million unidentified marks
5.9 million palm prints
115,000 palm marks
4300 serious crime marks
45,500 scenes of crime identifications over the last 6 months
