LOS ANGELES -Los Angeles County sheriff's investigators have begun an inquiry into whether coroner's employees illegally leaked or sold private information related to the investigation of Michael Jackson's death.
On Wednesday the coroner's office said Jackson's death certificate was improperly viewed by at least a half-dozen employees who had no role in investigating the cause of his death.
Way to go LA Coroners Office! :furious:

LOL, it isn't like they didn't know this was going to happen. They may have wished it wouldn't, they may have hoped it wouldn't. But they knew it was going to happen. And if it didn't occur to them, it should have become apparent as soon as they noted how many times the report had been viewed after it was put on computer. This happens in every famous persons case, esp if it isn't a natural/expected death.
If they didn't want it happen, they could have made it confidential, password protected the report or not even put it on the computer. Instead they will do an investigation. They should be able to tell which computer looked at the report and when. Anyone who wasn't looking for a job related reason will most likely be looking for a new job. And if they can trace who gave it to media, they may get charges against them.

From the LATimes:
“Craig Harvey, the chief coroner’s investigator, has said employees who inappropriately viewed Jackson’s records were warned, the proper disciplinary action according to county civil services rules, and that no further investigation was needed.”

I was shocked to read this after seeing his death cert was accessed more than 300 times by unauthorized personnel. I think anyone caught should be terminated and prosecuted to the nth degree, whether they looked out of curiosity or sold copies to the media (accepted bribes). And I hope they can prosecute any media who paid (bribed) a county employee for inside info. These are serious violations of privacy and totally unacceptable, maybe the feds should also look into this so nothing is swept under the rug.

I think the Coroner's office is more concerned about someone in their office leaking or sell information to the media than they are those who looked at his death certificate.
imo
