Joyce Renee Durham, 48, of Harper St., has been missing since June 17, 2007. Durham was reported missing by her brother-in-law, who told police she frequented drug areas.

Sheriff confirms sixth case in probe

A search team from Johnston County helped canvass swampy and wooded fields in rural Edgecombe County on Wednesday, joining a task force investigation into the murders of at least six black Rocky Mount women who have been found dead along the same rural stretch since 2003.

Investigators have been searching for three other missing Rocky Mount women whose profiles are similar to the victims.

A spokeswoman from the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office confirmed a 13-member search and rescue team had been dispatched to assist the Edgecombe County Sheriff’s Office in searching areas off Seven Bridges Road, a couple miles outside Rocky Mount.

Police are searching for at least three missing women – Yolanda “Snap” Lancaster, 37, Joyce Renee Durham, 46, and Christine Boone, 43 – in connection with the investigation.
