MIDWEST CITY, Okla. (AP) - Felony child abuse charges may be filed against a 72-year-old Midwest City woman suspected of using a red-hot potato masher to brand a 9-year-old boy.

Is this old bat mean or just crazy?! OMG! It doesn't say if she is related to the child, but obviously he was alone in her care at the time. What a horrible thing for this child to endure the rest of his life if those scars never go away. :(

Midwest City police described Louis as the boy’s foster mother, but state Department of Human Services officials Friday said that is not the case. The Oklahoman was unable to resolve the discrepancy.

Clabes said the burns on the boy’s body were discovered about a month ago by a worker at a Weed and Seed summer camp program the police department helps put on for children from high-crime areas.

The boy initially told a police officer the burns were accidental, but it was obvious from the burn marks they weren’t, Clabes said. The child later gave police what they think is an accurate description of how the burns were inflicted.

Clabes said Louis refused to cooperate with police officers, but told a Department of Human Services worker that she "lightly pressed the hot potato masher on his skin because he wasn’t listening to her.”

O.M.G. Why would they even put a child in the care of a 72-year-old person? If she is a "foster" parent, I doubt this was the first instance of abuse at her hands. What an evil witch!

She should have "Child Abuser" branded on her forehead. We should start tatooing people on their forehead that harm children since we can't seem to keep them off the streets.

Woman Accused of Burning 9-year-old Foster Child

MIDWEST CITY, Oklahoma -- A 72-year-old woman has been accused of burning her foster child with a heated potato masher several times.

An arrest warrant is expected to be issued on Tuesday for Joycelyn Louis, who faces one count of child abuse.

The 9-year-old was examined at Children's Hospital and was diagnosed with second and third degree burns on his arm and leg.

"She would heat it up on the oven and touch it on his skin as punishment," said Major Porter."This is one of the worse cases of child abuse we've ever seen. To see the marks on the child...it's just hard to believe how someone could do that to a little boy."

Louis' attorney, Gary Higginbotham, said his client acted "grossly out of character," and was not "in her right mind." Higginbotham said his client just moved to Oklahoma from California where she has a very long and clean history of being a proud foster parent. In fact, he said she has fostered more than 100 kids over the past 30 years and has never had one complaint or investigation filed against her.

NEWS 9 contacted the California Department of Social Services who placed the boy with his foster mother before moved to Oklahoma. A spokeswoman said the agency is now looking into the case.

Since when does a foster parent get to take a child and move out of state?! WTH? I wonder what else she has done to this poor boy along the way? He was willing to lie for her and say it was an accident. Bless his heart.

Btw~ Warning if you look at the new photos. They are pretty awful. :( She branded his hands as well as his arms and legs. No mention of other places yet. :( I cannot imagine the pain this child endured. I doubt if she even treated the burns.
