Huntersville police and family members are looking for a woman who hasn't been seen since Monday morning.

The missing woman is Alma Spiers, 59.

According to police, she was last seen leaving the Fifth Third Bank branch on Gilead Road about 9 a.m. Monday. Family members have told police that Spiers needs medication for high blood pressure and a heart condition, and she did not have the medication with her.

“We're extremely worried,” Huntersville police Capt. Michael Kee told NewsChannel 36, the Observer's news partner.

“This is highly unusual, according to the family.”

Surveillance shows missing woman in uptown
06:19 PM EDT on Thursday, August 6, 2009

By ALEX REED / NewsChannel 36

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- There's another clue in the case of the missing grandmother in Huntersville.

Investigators now confirm she was spotted at the Transit Center in uptown Charlotte just after 11 a.m. Monday.

NewsChannel 36 got an exclusive in-depth look at the investigation Thursday. We followed Detective Jennifer Sprague with the Huntersville Police Department as she retraced 59-year-old Alma Spiers' last known steps.

. . .

From there, Sprague said Spiers took the bus towards Huntersville.

"She got off and went to the Fifth Third Bank here and withdrew money," Sprague said.

Surveillance photos from the bank were the only lead detectives had. But the case file shows a CATS bus driver remembered picking up Spiers in Huntersville.

"That bus took her down to the Men's Warehouse here at Northlake Mall," said Sprague.

Then, CATS cameras caught Spiers on another bus.

"The last video that they have of her at CATS, she got off the bus at the main transit center downtown on Trade Street," said Sprague.

The cameras show Spiers carrying a grocery bag and a tote bag.

"She was not followed by anybody, so it would lead us to believe this was more of a voluntary leaving on her part. However, of course, we're still investigating," Sprague said. "She's got health problems and we're very concerned and her family is very concerned about her welfare, so we're going to follow every lead and continue investigating until we find her."

HUNTERSVILLE, N.C. -- Huntersville police are suspending their investigation into the disappearance of 59-year-old Alma Spiers.

Police said Friday they have determined that Spiers boarded a Greyhound bus on Monday afternoon in Charlotte and went to Richmond, Va.
