GA - Kristi Cornwell, 38 - missing since 8/11/09

The search continues for a 38-year-old woman last seen walking along Jones Creek Road, not far from her Blairsville home.

Kristi Cornwell was last seen at 9:20 p.m. Tuesday, according to Mike Ayers, special agent with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation. The GBI is assisting the Union County Sheriff’s Department with the investigation, Ayers said.



Cornwell is described as a dark-haired, white female and is 5 feet, 5 inches tall and weighs about 150 pounds, Ayers said.


Cornwell’s boyfriend, Douglas Davis, apparently attends a Cobb County church, according to a daily e-mailed report from Macland Baptist Church. According to the church e-mail, Davis was talking to Cornwell when she was approached.

“She told him a car was stopping near her and then started screaming, ‘Don’t take me,’” according to the church bulletin.


Anyone with any information is asked to contact the Union County Sheriff’s Department at 706-439-6066.

As you've posted, I've written about Kristi, but there's nothing extra there because there just isn't much to know, yet.

Commenters on my blog and some of my Facebook friends are very skeptical of the story of her abduction, though. It doesn't seem to make much sense. It's too easy.

According to the latest I can find, the boyfriend lives in the Atlanta area, and is not considered a suspect. Blairsville to Atlanta is approx 2 hours I think.

Also, they found personal items of Kristi's in the area where she disappeared, along with evidence suggesting she was abucted. From GBI Director Keenan, "The GBI is throwing all of our resources into this investigation," he said. "We are taking it very seriously and we believe Kristi Cornwell's life is in danger."

I live in Blairsville and this has shocked our community. The only other similar incident was Meredith Emerson and of course it is not related. Our town is small and these things just don't happen here very often.

According to this article, the boyfriend was in Atlanta. I assume there are witnesses who can place him there and that cell phone records would back this up.

Also, if Kristi was walking a 4 mile loop near her parents' house, then I would think they might be able to confirm the approximate time she left the house and about how far she would have gotten. Again, cell phone records should be able to confirm the call.

Praying for Kristi's safe return and for her family. They must be terrified.

Something from the article you linked made me do a doubletake. North Georgia News reported in this article that the family reported her missing at 9:30pm because it was unusual for her not to be back by then.

I think it was just sloppy reporting on the part of North Georgia News since one of the other articles mentioned she was last seen by her family at 9:20 P.M.

I heard about this case on Nancy Grace tonight. I'm wondering if the fact she used to be a probation officer has anything to do with her abduction? Was there anything that happened that made her quit? They said she went walking often so if someone was plotting to grab her it would be easy to plan around her routine. She has a 15 year old son, so sad :(

Divers were called in to search that area. They did NOT find anything, most importantly not Kristi. Please keep praying.

Again, Kristi was not found in that area. I just spoke to the agent in charge, and he confirmed that divers were searching, but didn't find anything.
