According to a statement of claim filed in Edmonton's Court of Queen's Bench on Aug. 20, BMW Canada Inc. is alleging Ryan Jenkins owes them $12,750 in outstanding payments for a luxury car he was leasing.

The same day murder charges were laid against RJ was the day that BMW filed their statement of claim in Edmonton court. Even though they got the BMW back (when and how and from whom?) and sold it, they still want their lease money. RJ had owed since March of this year. Things seemed to be going downhill for him then?

His two friends said that he was having money problems eg. his credit card was declined when they went out to dinner with him and Jasmine. He and Jasmine apparently fought a lot about money according to them. They said that she had high expectations when it came to his financial status. But didn't one of RJ's old girlfriend's say he was cheap? Look at all the trouble he went to so he could keep the diamond ring he had given JF. And why had RJ's dad got him a job away from his company working as a sales rep for an investment firm?

So was he just cheap, or was he having serious financial difficulty? Wasn't he supposedly a multi-millionaire, or was that just a scam? Maybe his father was trying to cut him loose and make him stand on his own two feet, and it wasn't working out for him too well? Kinda like the high school he was pulled out of when somehow he became associated "with the wrong crowd", according to his parents?

I think he had money problems and the macleans piece seems to imply that, too, imo...and missing car payments is a good indication he lost focus, in the least, in March...the same time he met Jasmine. I'd really like to know if he had a coke addiction...just a hunch.

Was his dad practicing "tough love" by sending him to work at another company? Is that when RJ decided he wanted to be an actor and move to the States? JF's ex Cardosi was a drug dealer, so most likely she wasn't a stranger to using drugs. Did she get RJ hooked, or was he already hooked? His parents want to blame the "Hollywood crowd", but his behaviour didn't seem that much different from when he lived in Calgary eg. violence, party life style, kinky sex, playboy attitude, controlling nature...

All the more reason to legalize drugs for addicts with programs to wean them off. What is the cost to society of hospital bills, jail, policing, people who can't lead a productive life? Yet some notorious mass murderers eg. Columbine, Virginia Tech had legal prescription drugs in their systems that may have contributed to their murderous rampages. And then there are the people like Michael Jackson, Heath Ledger, Anna Nicole Smith who overdose on prescription drugs, or while under a doctor's care.

I wonder if RJ's family or the RCMP will ever divulge what was in his toxicology report? If it was cocaine, then maybe that is why he could no longer afford his BMW or maintain a cocaine fueled high living life style that perhaps JF and he may have wanted.

I have to say that when I saw that video of Jasmine dancing around Ryan at the pool and him saying "I love my wife, I Love my life" my first thought was that they were both high (on drugs).

I wonder how much credit card debt he had as well.

And...I must add...for an Addict, coming down off a coke binge can cause many to commit suicide...without the other horrific details of this story...the crash is the worst in the world, in my experience...I've been clean from coke for 20 yrs...but I will never forget, it's that bad....God willing...

The MacLeans piece sheds more light on the personal lives of Jasmine and Ryan. I have to wonder if Ryan wooed Jasmine with the promise of a lavish lifestyle… pretending to have MUCH more money in his pockets than he really had.

As some of you have suggested, I too wonder if one or both had an expensive coke habit.

Has anybody else wondered how Jasmine managed to pay for the $100,000 custom Mercedes she had just purchased in July or August? And what about all these trips to high end hotels in Vegas and San Diego???

Where in the world was this money coming from??? Ryan wasn't supposed to receive the money he won from the reality show "I Love Money 3," until AFTER it aired.

Another thing... after reading all these interviews about Ryan's life since March... I realized he was all over the place... trip after trip... going to Canada on several occassions (twice with Jasmine), but also by himself... trips to Vegas (with and without Jasmine), to SC for the funeral of Jasmine's grandmother, a trip to a posh hotel in Del Mar (San Diego)... and those are only the one's I have read about...

For someone without a steady career... he seemed to be living WAY above his means.

I think Ryan had lost "focus" in many areas of his life... and may have felt like he was losing control of his money and his wife.

I'm surprised if he was that much in arrears with the car lease that he was still driving it ~ or maybe BMW didn't know where it was until he was fleeing to Canada. I also agree though about the possible drug use since that will go through a lot of money in no time, and lead to irresponsible behavior. MOO

From thw quoted Edmonton Sun Article:

"BMW says Jenkins agreed to make monthly payments of $932 up until June 2010, however the company claims he breached the agreement by failing to make the payments.

Jenkins allegedly made his last payment in March 2009 and had not forked over any money since.

BMW says the luxury sedan was returned to them and subsequently sold, but note there is a deficiency owing on the vehicle in the amount of $12,750 plus interest. "

The car was returned to them and then sold? That was very quick for a car of a fugitive wanted for murder. Who returned the car? Why was the car released so quickly to be returned?

Perhaps he had 2 cars?

"The German automaker alleges Jenkins, 32, entered into a written lease agreement on June 6, 2007, whereby he leased a 2007 BMW 335xi sedan.

BMW says Jenkins agreed to make monthly payments of $932 up until June 2010, however the company claims he breached the agreement by failing to make the payments."

I have no idea what the car he was driving was, other than the pics of it being a black BMW.

Looks like Adnoid may be right on the 2 cars.

"They have recovered Jenkins' black 2003 BMW X5 and his boat"

So, why, if you were $12,000 behind on your car lease, would you not get rid of it, esp. if you were driving something else anyway? Methinks Mr. Jenkins may have just "playing a millionaire" on tv, not really one, like he wanted the reality tv folks and others to believe.

The one with the trailer attached is an X5 (his looks exactly like mine!). The 335xi is a small 2 door coupe.

So were both of his beemers down in the States with him? Or had he left the 2007 in Calgary? Did he fully own the 2003, or was he behind in payments on that as well? Where had his sister picked him up from?

Could it be that RJ returned the leased sedan to the dealer himself, or had a family member do so for him, as a lease return, or voluntary repo..... and planned to deal with the penalties later? Lots of people try to get out of their leases early..... This link seems to read that he had been making payments until the car was dropped off, but the actual lease contract wasn't up until June 2010, so he was the hook for the monthly payments until then..... another year's worth of $932/mo.... is about $12,000 give or take??
