According to court documents, Erica Butts told authorities she beat the child multiple times with a belt after the child urinated on the floor. Butts also said Serenity hit her head multiple times while falling in the bathroom and thirty minutes after the last fall, Butts said the child’s breathing became shallow.

Coincidentally, I was on a JonBenet Ramsey thread yesterday. This is one of the theories about what happened to her. That her mother lost it when JonBenet wet the bed again and hit her hard enough for her to fall and hit her head.

Butts, the godmother, entered an Alford plea, meaning she maintains her innocence but acknowledges that taking her case to trial would likely result in a conviction. For practical purposes, she is considered guilty in the eyes of the law.

Cunningham pleaded guilty.

The court treats the two pleas the same, and each woman faces 20 years to life in prison on the charge.

The 3-year-old girl, Serenity Richardson, died from blunt force trauma that investigators determined had taken place over a two-week visit with Butts, her godmother, according to assistant solicitor Elizabeth Gordon.

“The only parts of this child’s body that were spared were the soles of her feet and her armpits,” Gordon said.

I was reading back over past articles on the net about this case. One said Serenity died from full-body blunt force trauma. I didn't even know there was such a thing.

Oh BeanE, I love that picture! What a little princess she was. Thanks for posting this update. I was born in the old Summerville hospital and have lived here for 42 years.
