When Pat Lavergne arrived Monday to empty the possum trap on Kansas Avenue in Port Acres, at first she didn't know what she was looking at.

"First I thought it was a rabbit or a cat," the senior Port Arthur animal control officer said. "As I got closer, I saw it was a possum and I was shocked."

The young possum - stark white except for pitch black ears - is an incredibly rare find, said animal control supervisor Anthony Mitchell

I usually think possums are yuky, but this one is kinda cute. I hate that any of them are euthanized.

Thanks, I think they both are beautiful- My groundhog got fallened up and I guess he/she is hibernating now, I haven't seen him/her in a few weeks...Maureen
