This is a very beautiful young woman that is missing out of SD. I hope everything turns out well but it does not sound good. This is my first thread start so please bear with me...

A burned-out car that contained a body in the trunk was removed from rural Hanson County on Wednesday and sent to the state crime lab in Pierre.

The South Dakota Attorney General's Office said the body was found in the car southeast of Mitchell and that it might be related to the case of a missing girl, 16-year-old Jasmine Guevara of Mitchell.

Roger and Judy Bartscher, who live near the scene, said the body was found in the trunk of the car, a Chevy Malibu. http://www.ktiv.com/Global/story.asp?S=11490680

It appears that a funeral has been provided for, but they still have not released the remains, and that one of the accused is a 15-year old girl.

Guevara, 16, was killed Nov. 10. Two days later, authorities arrested Alexander Salgado, 20, and a 15-year-old girl whose name is being withheld because of her juvenile status.

The two are accused of stabbing Guevara, cutting her throat, putting her into a car and setting the car on fire.

from the Daily Republic article which won't let me get back to the story without registering.

Guevara Family To Receive Free Funeral
11/20/2009 10:49 AM
<snipped>
Terry Rietveld of Will Funeral Chapel in Mitchell says he offered the teen's family a free funeral. Also, the city offered a free grave opening and closing at the city cemetery, Shafer Memorials contributed a grave marker, and Nepstad's Flowers and Gifts will give flowers.

No date has been set for the funeral.

Authorities say Guevara was killed November 10. Two days later, Alexander Salgado, 20, and a 15-year-old girl were arrested. Court documents say the motive for the killing is believed to be the girl's jealousy over a developing relationship between Salgado and Guevara.

In court documents, it becomes clear Alexander Salgado has a romantic relationship with his 15-year-old female co-conspirator, identified as "M-D".

Jasmine Guevara's murder is apparently the result of teen-aged jealousy.

All three attended a party this last sunday and in court documents, detectives say "according to witnesses, m-d became jealous because of a suspect relationship developing between jasmine and salgado."

A preliminary hearing has been set for Salgado on November 25th.

20-year-old Alexander Salgado is one of two people charged in the murder of Jasmine Guevara. Salgado made his initial court appearance in Mitchell on Friday afternoon.

Remembering Jasmine Guevara

<snipped>
Jasmine was enrolled in an upper-level Spanish class taught by Teri Morgan. Morgan last saw Jasmine on Monday. Her empty desk is a difficult reminder of the tragic loss everyone in school is feeling.

"I miss her already because just from knowing her, since she was really little she would always speak Spanish to me from when she first came here and even before I had her in class, and she's just a little fireball," Morgan said.

Morgan says Jasmine came from a close-knit Guatemalan family steeped in Latino traditions. She says Jasmine would often speak proudly about her new baby brother. Jasmine also has a twin brother at Mitchell High School.

The 15-year-old girl charged in Jasmine's death does not attend the high school.

Serious charge such as murder could mean trying child as adult
12/02/2009
<snipped>
Although a state prosecutor association keeps no statistics on the number of South Dakota juveniles prosecuted as adults, the group’s executive director said teens involved in homicide cases often stand trial as adults. “It has been my experience, if it involves a serious charge such as murder, the person will be charged as an adult,” said Charles Schroyer, executive director of the South Dakota State’s Attorney Association.

Three weeks after a Mitchell girl was found dead in the trunk of a car, prosecutors are considering whether to try a second suspect as an adult.

As Mitchell residents wonder whether a 15-year-old girl will be tried as an adult in connection with the murder of another local teen, the state of Missouri is in the midst of an eerily similar case. In that state, it was determined last week that 15-year-old Alyssa Bustamante will be tried as an adult for the murder of 9-year-old Elizabeth Olten.

The remains of a burned out car and a body found inside it, discovered just south of Mitchell Tuesday night, are now in Pierre with officials for further investigation. Wednesday we learned a 16 year old Mitchell girl, Jasmine Guevara, is somehow connected to the burning car...but we don't know how.

Thursday we spoke with one of Guevara's friends about what they think happened to Jasmine. Some heavy thoughts are running through Amanda Nava's head as she plays with her daughter. Nava says, "I'm just hopin' it's not her." Nava is a friend of Jasmine Guevara's family. An autopsy will be performed on the body investigators removed from the car.

Salgado Wants Evidence Thrown Out

Alexander Salgado was in court Wednesday for a pre-trial hearing for his involvement in the murder of 16 year old Jasmine Guevara. The big part of the hearing today dealt with the defense's motion to supress 16 newly admitted exhibits of evidence that stem from Salgado's questioning prior to arrest.

According to an police interview transcript Salgado says "That's the truth now take me right to jail." The defense claims that this is an indication that Salgado is requesting to impose his right to remain silent and that anything gathered or testimony given after that point should be thrown out.

As for the state, they argue that that is not a clear indication and Salgado continued to speak and freely gave his testimony. The judge will now take time to review the tapes, exhibits and attorney briefs. A written ruling is expected later next week.

As the five witnesses recounted their testimony, Alexander Salgado showed no emotion. The family members of Jasmine Guevara were clearly torn by having to relive that painful day.
