This is an amazing, interesting story that I know you will love.
There is a teenage girl from Cleveland named Amanda Berry, who has been missing for over a year. One day, I received an email from AMANDA BERRY! The subject line was also Amanda Berry. I was almost afraid to read it because I was concerned it might either be a hoax or that the missing girl was emailing me for some reason. I opened it and it said: “Can I adopt Amanda Berry on your Adopt a Missing Person program?” I wrote back and explained that Amanda was not on the program and how families can place their missing loved one on the program. I asked her how she found, us, and if she knew the missing girl’s family.
Her name was also Amanda Berry. She wrote back and said she had found us and the Adopt program on the Internet. She also told me a most interesting tale about how one day she decided to type her name into the Google search engine just to see what she would find. She found the missing Amanda Berry from Cleveland. From that day forward, the other Amanda never left her thoughts. She wished she would hear more about her and that she had been found. She did not know the family at all. She was just a woman who cared, miles from the family in Cleveland who wanted so desperately to see their Amanda again.
I found this to be such an interesting and profound story, and I knew I had to do something about it. I asked Amanda if she was ok with me pursuing this with media who had done stories about the other Amanda. She was very open for me to do that. I told her that I intended to take it all the way; that it was too good of a story to pass up, and that the missing Amanda Berry and her family deserved an infusion of hope, knowing that someone cared. If we could get it on the airwaves, we could help this family. I think that neither one of us thought it would go anywhere. We were wrong.
The second media outlet I emailed the story to wrote back, and they were very interested. It took us a few days to make all the necessary arrangements, and then today we both went and filmed news segments in our respective cities. In the meantime, the families were writing their segments to include their daughters on the Adopt a Missing Person program. (Missing 14 year-old Georgina DeJesus from Cleveland was also included in the story, as we wanted to help both families.) Both girls will be on the Adopt a Missing Person site soon, and we have buttons ready to go.
Here is the link for the news story, plus a video you can watch online. Do watch the video as it features reactions from the family, too. They are so grateful that a stranger would come forward and help them as Amanda Berry did. I applaud Amanda and thank her for having the courage to do this.
This story is an excellent example of the fact that there is more good to found in the world than bad. The next time we are presented with an opportunity to do good, run with it, as you never know what might happen next. Amanda did, and look what came of it. I look forward to receiving Amanda’s adoption request for Amanda in the mail and hopefully many, many more.

The national exposer is a lot more important than what Browne said. I was told by Montel's staff that they average 3 million viewers. Maybe one of those viewers saw something and will come forward.
People want to believe there is an easy solution to finding missing persons. This is part of what keeps Browne in business. It's too bad she couldn't be right some of the time.

since these girls disappeared in the same area, does anyone know if gina dejesus knew amanda? I wonder if maybe the police ever thought of a manager at the burger king resturant that amanda worked at? if it were a manager gone bad, maybe at one point or another, gina dejesus possible visits her at work, and the perp sees her as well. And later sees her walking down the road, and he offers her a ride, maybe she would have felt comfortable with him, since she knew he was amandas manager. this is sad that these girls have fallen out of the picture, hopefully police have checked into a possible connection to someone that amanda and gina might have known, such as a possible manager idea that I have. at the very least I feel this person lives in the general area. seems like there hasn't been any others recently that have gone missing in that manner in a close period of time, this person knew whene they would be out and about. our prayers are with amanda and gina, and the families that are still looking for answers.

CLEVELAND -- Friends and loved ones of two missing Cleveland teens joined together for a prayer vigil Saturday night.
The families of Amanda Berry and Gina DeJesus say they want to remind the community that the girls are still missing.
They also want to encourage people to call police with any leads.
Both Amanda and Gina disappeared from the same west side Cleveland neighborhood. No one's heard from them since.
Loved ones say they held the vigil to mark the two and a half year anniversary of Amanda's disappearance.

CLEVELAND -- A local mother who fought so long to find out what happened to her missing daughter is hospitalized.
Louwanna Miller is in critical condition.
Her daughter, Amanda Berry, has been missing for two and half years.
Before Christmas, Miller underwent surgery on her pancreas and gall bladder at Metro Health Medical Center.
Miller has since been moved to the Cleveland Clinic where she was taken for a second surgery.
The situation is complicated because her family says Miller has been diagnosed with C. diff, a dangerous bacterial infection.

this case is so similar to the gaddis and pond girls which were friends and disappeared from the same location. there must be a sexual predator that was attracted to these two girls and may have even had some correspondance with them prior to them going missing. somewhere someone knows what happended to these two girls, the same person is responsible for these two missing girls.

just doing some thinking here? where was joseph edward duncan at the time of hers and ginas disappearence? since he was one that got around from state to state and chose victims at random. since his arrest in the groene case he has been linked to at 3 other childrens murder. I just wonder if it is possible that he ran across these two girls and stalked them out? or was he still in jail?

With the huge number of sex offenders and other violent criminal types in a given city, it is highly unlikely that if Amanda and Georgina have been killed, that it was a SO who is well known.

I just couldn't imagine just how many children have been forced into this life style, it isn't because the child chose this, but it is something these sick men are doing to abducted children for the drugs they do they need something that will guarentee a fast buck. the lure of young girls and boys is the one choice for all the sick perverts in this country. it is very possible that both amanda and gina were taken there, these creeps have " shoppers " that do the dirty work for the " big man " in charge.

"I'm not gonna give up looking for my daughter. I want her to hear this. I'm never gonna give up looking for you, Gina. I never will. Until the day I die, I'm gonna be out here looking for you," said Gina's father, Felix DeJesus.

I can see why you would post it here because of the location and these girls would fit into a theory of abduction for sex slavery that would normally appear to be far-ferched but in this case it is a proven fact so imo worth investigating. You could also post it as a heading for an individual thread as well. I wouldn't have seen the report since you deleted it if someone hadn't used it in a link.

Viewer Believes She Saw Missing Teen On TV
UPDATED: 8:59 am EST March 20, 2006
CLEVELAND -- Three years after Amanda Berry mysteriously disappeared from the streets of Cleveland, police continue searching for her.
Last week, a NewsChannel5 viewer thought she saw the teenager on television. 5 On Your Side chief investigator Duane Pohlman and Cuyahoga County sheriff's detectives wasted no time picking up the trail.
A young woman giving a testimonial on camera during the March 4 episode of the Ohio Lottery's show "Cash Explosion" triggered the tip.
"You gotta come, try it out," said a woman with blue hair.
March 20: Amanda Berry Sighting?
The viewer thought the face looked very much like Berry. The teenager disappeared three years ago, the day before her 17th birthday. She was walking home from work on Lorain Avenue.
Her case was in the news nearly every day for months. Amanda's picture was everywhere.
Detective Jamie Bonnette was stunned by the similarities of the blue-haired woman in the video and Berry.
"I think you might have her," Bonnette said.
"What's your gut say?" Pohlman asked.
"It's too close not to look into," Bonnette said.
Berry's mother, Louanna Miller, died two weeks ago. Her sister Beth is now the closest living relative. Pohlman asked her to view the tape.
"I just can't see her hair like that and stuff, but it has been so long and things, you know," Beth Serrano said. "See right there, right there's her face. I mean, when she does that, I can see the side of her face."
Serrano thought she saw her missing sister.
"Do you think that's her?" Pohlman asked.
"Yeah. From the looks, yeah," Serrano said.
Together, the 5 On Your Side investigators and the detectives put everything they had into an all-out search to identify the woman on the tape.
The search led investigators to Columbus, where the game show was taped.
Detectives searched the records and interviewed everyone who remembered the blue-haired girl on the tape.
"She was smiling. She was friendly," Johnny Douglas said.
But no one could put a name to the face.
Finally on Thursday, there was a break. Investigators tracked the blue-haired girl to a suburb outside of Toledo.
Pohlman arrived moments after the detectives. The blue-haired girl was not Berry, but a shy 22-year-old named Crystal, who shares the features of the missing girl from Cleveland.
Pohlman said that means a girl who mysteriously disappeared here Lorain Avenue is still missing, and there are no new leads.
He said it would be easy to write off the results of the investigation as disappointing, but Bonnette said no one is giving up on finding Berry.
If you have any information about Berry, contact Cuyahoga County sheriff's detectives at (216) 443-5578.

Just this weekend I got a letter from a woman in Akron, asking if I was the missing Amanda Berry. As many of you here may know, I share her name, but that’s about it. The letter-writer found my name and address online.
The woman writing the letter asked that if I am the missing Amanda, that I return home, as many people in Akron love and miss me, including Amanda’s sister. She mostly wrote to tell me that Louanna (my apologies if I have misspelled her name) had passed on.
She also asked if Gina DeJesus was with me.
It’s hard to describe what I felt at first; it was odd. After a few minutes, though, I was moved to tears just knowing someone was still looking for Amanda, when so often it seems like her case fades from sight.
I’ll be writing back to her tonight, probably, and plan to invite her to our forum.
Amanda Marie Berry is always in the back of my mind, and her letter gave me hope, knowing that she is also in someone else’s mind as well…..

I can't *not* reply to the woman. Her letter touched me, and I also want to let her know that I'm not who she is looking for. I'd hate to know she was still wondering....

NBA and Cavaliers with the assist for two Cleveland families

CLEVELAND -- All eyes are on Cleveland for the NBA Finals.
And the families of two missing girls hope more eyes will help in the search for their loved ones.
14-year-old Gina Dejesus disappeared while walking home from school three years ago. Amanda Berry vanished after leaving her job in 2003.
Thursday night at Quicken Loans Arena, the photos of both girls, along with age progression pictures of how they may look currently, will be played on the Cavaliers scoreboard.
"I thanked them from the bottom of my heart," said Nancy Ruiz, mother of Gina Dejesus. "They've given me this chance, this hope."
The photos will be shown before the game and at halftime. And fliers with the girls' information will be taped to the arena's doors.
A friend of both families wrote a letter to the Cavaliers asking for permission to post Amanda's and Gina's photos. The Cavaliers and NBA officals gave their approval.
"You never know," Ruiz said. "If somebody just sees these girls or saw my baby, to call and help me bring my baby home. Both of them."

This has haunted me for a long time as they went missing from a neighborhood very close to where I lived and I was a teen at the same time they were.
I knew the area they vanished from very well. I would not consider it a safe place, but for the most part, houses are well kept and there is a lot of community pride and togetherness. My aunt did mail-carrying in the neighborhood and has a lot of strange and scary tales.
I am 99% police have checked to see if Amanda and Gina knew each other, these cases are constantly on the minds of Clevelanders and in the news.
There was an article about Amanda I saw a few months ago, before I was a member of Websleuths. It was either in the Cleveland Free Times or the Cleveland Scene, but I cannot find it in their search. I will keep looking in the meantime. The only interesting information I remember is that months after Amanda went missing, they found her dirty BK uniform rolled up behind her dresser, and they said it meant Amanda came home before she went missing. The article said the first time that fact was released was in that article.
*****************EDIT**************I found it http://www.freetimes.com/stories/15/1/whatever-happened-to-gina-mandy
since these girls disappeared in the same area, does anyone know if gina dejesus knew amanda? I wonder if maybe the police ever thought of a manager at the burger king resturant that amanda worked at? if it were a manager gone bad, maybe at one point or another, gina dejesus possible visits her at work, and the perp sees her as well. And later sees her walking down the road, and he offers her a ride, maybe she would have felt comfortable with him, since she knew he was amandas manager. this is sad that these girls have fallen out of the picture, hopefully police have checked into a possible connection to someone that amanda and gina might have known, such as a possible manager idea that I have. at the very least I feel this person lives in the general area. seems like there hasn't been any others recently that have gone missing in that manner in a close period of time, this person knew whene they would be out and about. our prayers are with amanda and gina, and the families that are still looking for answers.

mywarmbluefleece, thanks for the Free Times link. James Renner is a really good writer, IMO, and he's written a book about Amy Mihaljevic too.
I grew up down by Fairview Hospital, so that area is very familiar to me too. (Especially when it was Sears!)
I just wish they'd find these two girls, and the killer of Amy. :(

One-man Crime Spree May Now Be Linked To High-profile Disappearances
Eric Wilson, known on the streets of Cleveland as "Big" or "Big Willie," is best known for starting the gunfight that killed 12-year-old Asteve'e "Cookie" Thomas in September 2007. But by the time Cookie was murdered, Wilson already had a long history of kidnapping young women from the West Side and transporting them to the East Side, where they were raped and held captive. Victims came forward when they saw his picture on the news after Cookie's murder, and last fall he was convicted of four counts of rape and two counts of kidnapping. He's currently behind bars awaiting yet another rape trial.
As the search for mis-sing 15-year-old Ashley Summers continues, police and FBI have begun to wonder if Wilson was somehow involved in her disappearance. She left an apartment on Holmden Avenue on July 6, 2007, and has not been seen by her family since. At that time, Wilson often crashed at a house on Holmden, just a few doors down from where Ashley was staying. Ashley's disappearance was first treated as a runaway but is now assumed to have been an abduction, possibly connected to the more well-known West Side kidnappings of Amanda Berry and Gina DeJesus, according to investigators.

Three missing cases connected? (http://ac360.blogs.cnn.com/2009/03/25/three-missing-cases-connected/)
Over a span of four years, three girls from the same Cleveland neighborhood have gone missing. They all lived on the west side of the city. And they all vanished blocks from one another.
Are the three cases connected? The FBI suspects they may be related. “We really believe someone out there knows something,” says Special Agent Scott Wilson. “We’re looking for that one tip that will lead us to find them.” Here’s the FBI’s account of each incident:
Amanda Berry disappeared on the evening of April 21, 2003. After her shift at a Burger King ended, the 16-year-old headed home. It should have taken just a few minutes to reach her house. But she was never seen or heard from again.

I don't think it has been mentioned yet, but Amanda's mom received two phone calls, one right after the other, a week after Amanda disappeared. The calls were from a man who stated Amanda was with him and she was okay and that her mom would see her in a few days. The calls were made from Amanda's cell phone.

Thank you for posting this theory-def. something to look into, for many missing persons cases-he was everywhere, and who knows just how honest he was about his whereabouts?
Here is a timeline of his whereabouts:
http://www.fbi.gov/anchorage/press-releases/2012/fbi-requests-the-publics-assistance-concerning-israel-keyes
It stated in the article he has killed a couple in 2001, so we know he was killing at the time Amanda went missing-but where was he in APril 2003??

inmate gets four years for false tip on Amanda Berry:
A prison inmate has been sentenced to 4½ years after admitting he provided a false burial tip in the 2003 disappearance of a 16-year-old Ohio girl.
A judge in Cleveland sentenced 26-year-old Robert Wolford on Tuesday on his guilty plea to obstruction of justice, making a false report and making a false alarm.
Last summer, he tipped authorities to look for the remains of Amanda Berry of Cleveland in a city lot. He was brought to the location, which was dug up with backhoes.http://www2.nbc4i.com/news/2013/jan/16/inmate-gets-4-years-false-missing-girl-tip-ar-1314996/

There will be a vigil today to mark the 10th anniversary of the disappearance of Amanda Berry, who was 16 when she vanished from the West Side.
Family, friends and community activists will gather at 6 p.m. at West 110th Street and Lorain Avenue, where she was seen about 7:40 p.m. April 21, 2003, leaving her job at Burger King. Her 17th birthday was the next day.http://www.cleveland.com/metro/index.ssf/2013/04/vigil_today_for_16-year-old_am.html

I can't wait to hear this story. How did this Cleveland bus driver abduct 3 women and keep them captive? Not very far from where they went missing.

There were three women in the house, Amanda Berry, Gina DeJesus, and Michelle Knight.
Michelle Knight was kidnapped at age 20 in 2000 and is now 32 years old. She is not as well known because she was an adult when kidnapped. They are now at the hospital (Cleveland Metro). And, can you believe this: the man who kidnapped them is a 52 year old man who was a former school bus driver!!

I'm stunned. So happy these girls have been found. So sad that they were where they were for so long. Thoughts and prayers going out to all of them.

My best friend works at Metro, but she's not on duty tonight. She got a mass e-mail from Metro basically saying those on duty should expect to go through extreme security measures in order to get to their stations tonight. They are rightly being very protective of these girls.
My husband is on vacation this week, but our church is only a few blocks down Lorain from where Amanda was abducted. He is on his way up to change the message on the sign to say Welcome Home Amanda, Gina, and Michelle. Such a happy day for Cleveland! We've prayed for these girls for so long!

Here is a thread to discuss the finding of these girls. Of course, anything specific to Amanda can be kept here, but let's try to move to this thread so we don't have to have the same conversations in 3 places:
Found! Amanda Berry and Gina deJesus after 10 years! - Websleuths Crime Sleuthing Community
EDIT: Locking this thread for a short time to get everyone to the same place. We're having overlapping conversations and information.
Don't worry, thread WILL reopen. Just want everyone to find the new thread.
