Oh jeez, I am so sorry to hear this. Another article I read (now I can't find it), said the ex-husbands story of visiting a sick relative in ??Bolivia?? checked out (maybe it had been pre-planned - I don't know). I'm sure the date who dropped her off at 11:30 has been checked out.

Sympathy to her family...

This is so sad. She worked at the same real estate agency that my realtor does. We just bought our first home four months ago. It's such a small community, I know her presence will be missed.

The ex's story sounds fishy and a little too convienient, but one never knows. I just hope they can nail whoever did this.

Here's a link to her website. There are several good links at the bottom of this page:

Is her ex of South American descent? His story is peculiar. Way too much of a coincidence, imo.

Weird. They aren't saying if it is her or not. There must be something really odd about the body, or a relative should be able to ID it.

Maybe they know it's her but they are withholding the ID as part of a way to smoke out the perp...maybe they are playing mindgames with the ex-husband or something.

IdahoMom,

I haven't heard much about the ex, someone stated that they heard his story checked out, so who knows. I'm keeping up with this one, so I'll let you know if I hear anything more.

Announced this morning that autopsy records are sealed so don't know cause of death. If ex flew out of San Diego enroute to Bolivia, or wherever, he would be a major suspect. Haven't heard much about date--sure he is high on suspect list too - what a waste, to take a human life for what = happens every day, I know, but always shocked.

Several years ago there was a serial abductor, rapist who preyed upon real estate agents operating in several states. I was selling real estate at the time and every office in the tri-county area had the drawing of the guy posted in the office for customers and agents to view. We started using the buddy system if our clients were single men. This was before cell phones or beepers--the 80's!

Looks like the date and the ex-husband were cleared. I hope they can find out who did this. It's so sad.

LOS ANGELES -- Police searched the home of the ex-husband of a real estate agent who was found dead in the trunk of her car last week.

Two computers and bags of personal items were seized from Erwin Howard's home in El Segundo, Calif.

Police were investigating the death of Julia Buchanan Keller, who vanished on July 8. She was discovered in San Diego a week later.

Howard flew to Bolivia two days after his ex-wife disappeared. He says he went there to help his ailing, 86-year-old mother.

He came back the same day Keller's body was found and has been interviewed by authorities. He says he has nothing to do with the killing.

interesting about the search on ex-husband's home - he is No. 1 on suspect list for me - the Bolivia trip sounds fishy to me - who goes there for only 4 days? Probably trying to establish an alibi - but what was he doing with body for two days before he left - reminds me somewhat of case few years ago of TRW man considered suspect in death of his wife in Redondo Beach - said she went shopping, missing and found her body in trunk of car also few miles away - theory was he rode home on bicycle - anyway for those not familiar with case, he eventually committed suicide without ever being charged with crime.

Man Says He Had Nothing To Do With 'Horrible Nightmare'

LOS ANGELES -- The ex-husband of a South Bay real estate agent who turned up dead in the trunk of her Mercedes-Benz in San Diego told the Daily Breeze that he had nothing to do with the "horrible nightmare."

Erwin Howard, 50, told the newspaper detectives searched his El Segundo home in the 800 block of Hillcrest Street and took a DNA sample from him, but he denied any involvement in the apparent murder.

Howard had taken a trip to Bolivia to visit his ailing mother about the time ex-wife Julia "Deede" Keller disappeared July 8.

"If I had anything to do with it, I would have fled the country and got lost there," Keller's second husband told the newspaper. "I came back. I chose to come back."

San Diego police, checking out Keller's ticketed E320 sedan, found the 55-year-old woman's body in the trunk on July 15, but authorities, acting on a request by Los Angeles County sheriff's detectives, refused to disclose the cause of death.

So far, detectives have said little about what may have happened to the woman.

"Every day it's a nightmare," Howard told the Daily Breeze. "This is nothing but a horrible nightmare."

Police appeared to be watching Howard's home after he returned July 15, the Daily Breeze reported. Shortly after noon Tuesday, police dressed in dark clothing and armed with a battering ram raided Howard's home. A roommate wrapped in a towel was escorted outside moments later, a neighbor told the newspaper.

Keller, who worked for Shorewood Realtors for 13 years, reportedly disappeared after a date dropped her off at her home in the 500 block of Richmond Street. The date reportedly also was questioned.

A funeral is scheduled for 4 p.m. next Thursday at American Martyrs Church, 624 15th St., in Manhattan Beach.

Howard flew to Bolivia two days after Keller's disappearance. He said he was visiting his ailing mother. He returned on the same day Keller's body was found.

I truly hope Ms. Keller's family has found peace. Her life is remembered.

Julia Keller's story was featured on NBC's Dateline on 6/8/2013 (video clips are available online)

http://www.dailybreeze.com/ci_10415247

Quote from online article in DailyBreeze.com (see above link) on 9/8/2008:

"As Howard [Erwin] gave his dramatic and stunning confession Monday in a downtown Los Angeles courtroom, Julia "Deede" Keller's friends and family members held hands and cried.

As part of a plea deal reached during Howard's third day of trial, Howard agreed to tell everything about Keller's death early on July 9, 2004.

Immediately following his confession, Howard, 54, pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and was sentenced to 15 years to life in prison."
