Yes true, but what defines a "major" case? I guess what I am saying is, murders happen every day. People go missing every day. The FBI isn't involved in every instance. I thought it was either somehow linked to a federal crime, if local LE call them in because they can no longer handle the case, if it's across state lines/lines of jurisdiction, or if it's something really major, like serial killing, mass murder, etc

This case has made national news, involves the military (Federal), and involves a ton of Federal land so it does make sense, IMO.

Yea, I think they are involved because of it being military related and that federal land is being search/is suspected as the crime scene. I just meant that they can't get involved in just any murder case. There has to be cause.

My original thought of them thinking maybe the crime occurred on base, hence FBI, is not relevant anymore now that I realized JT is a national park. That was my purpose for questioning FBI involvement.

I can't believe I leave for one day and come back to 15+ pages, the bombshell information about the possible affair, and word that her husband has been cleared as a suspect (at least, according to his mom.) You all were busy! I caught up late last night/early this morning. Thanks for all of the insight and information!

Funny thing, yesterday when driving to Sea World (thought about Erin more than a few times when there knowing she had planned to go with her mother shortly) I filled my husband in on the very minimal details of Erin's disappearance that we knew as of yesterday morning and asked his thoughts. He told me immediately that his hunch was that she was having an affair, the baby might have been a result of the affair, and the man she had the affair with was responsible for her disappearance after she met him secretly that morning. Imagine my surprise when I read the recent article on here yesterday. (I am taking the new news with a grain of salt until it can be substantiated by LE or "a person close to the investigation" with a name that can be published.)

Hoping this weekend brings answers for Erin's family and loved ones.

Offering support services is what the FBI does in most cases like this one.

http://www.fbi.gov/stats-services/fbi-resources

The FBI doesn’t just solve cases and prevent attacks. We also provide a range of services and resources to our many partners and to the general public.
That includes crime statistics, criminal background checks, laboratory services, training, victim assistance, and more.
You can find links to many of these services here. If you can’t find what you’re looking for, try our A-Z index or search engine above. You can also contact us.

I think Border patrol because they are very adapt at spending time in a hot desert. And are adapt of locating people, dead or alive, in the desert.

And the FBI will help any agency that asks for there help.

I agree.

Another reason why they may be seeking help from Border Patrol in their search http://www.washingtonpost.com/world...987af0-7d49-11e3-9556-4a4bf7bcbd84_story.html

"The records show that the border-*patrol drones are being commissioned by other agencies more often than previously known. Most of the missions are performed for the Coast Guard, the Drug Enforcement Administration and immigration authorities. But they also aid in disaster relief and in the search for marijuana crops, methamphetamine labs and missing persons, among other missions not directly related to border protection."

It just keeps on going:

Up toward the aparments, it continues:

Even the wash is fenced off:

Everywhere I look there is a perimeter fence:

North:

Power grid has a fence:

This entire base is fenced:

Not to say a murderous young marine couldn't hop that fence. I do see barbed wire on this portion, however:

And here, more barbed wire:

More ouch here:

I can't say for sure the entire perimeter is barb wired, but it looks like it is.

thank you, Tvscum!

these pics are so helpful to get a "feel" for the military base and environs!

Yes... The best pic is the one with the hand made signs from the loving family members of the Marines! :grouphug:

I agree. If the person was going back on base, someone else drove them on. MP would remember someone walking on, IMO, as it would stick out like a sore thumb. Unless they snuck back on through an unfenced area

A possibility that wouldn't necessarily stand out or seem odd would be if someone left base that morning before it got hot to go on a jog and then returned through the gate at the end of their jog. If Erin was indeed meeting someone off base so that they wouldn't be spotted leaving base together, and another car wasn't involved, this scenario would fit. We don't know what, if anything, MP knows about who left base or returned to base that day that may be related to Erin's disappearance. Add it to the (ever growing) list of questions we hope LE has answers to.

The radio traffic above indicates a possible second set of tire tracks and foot traffic at the site. IF this was an ongoing sexual affair, with both parties married, the two of them could have established a routine where they both drive off base in their own cars, then meet up someplace; maybe a motel or maybe just a dirt lot two miles off base. Then, when they meet up they drive away in the other person's vehicle leaving one vehicle at the dirt lot. The JTNP story EC told may have been a cover story as to where she was going off base all day. In fact, maybe she was meeting up with the other Marine at the dirt lot. What happened next is anybody's guess, argument over the pregnancy, EC proclaiming she is ending it and keeping the baby, one of the parties wanting to stay together and the other wanting to split up, etc. The two car rendezvous theory means the lover would not have to walk back on base, he would just drive back on. Also, it might explain why LE has cell phone pings driving away from the base, but not returning. JMO.

Far too many people are using this not yet confirmed affair as a reason to place the culpability someplace else. [[modsnip] Affairs happen all the time in military culture, that's why they have the rule in the first place. But they continue to happen anyways. If being charged for infidelity was enough of a motive for a lover to kill his mistress there'd be Five EC stories every day. No this was someone who felt betrayed by her actions, to their very core, [modsnip]

A new article from Z107.7. Doesn't really say a lot but they want to make sure everyone knows they assisted in the finding of the car.

"RADIO STORY LED TO MISSING WOMAN’S CAR"

http://www.z1077fm.com/radio-story-led-to-missing-womans-car/

lol! I read an article I believe I linked here earlier on from the same news source claiming they were the first to report on her disappearance. They seem to really want acknowledgment. Perhaps they should go out and find Erin for LE? :desert:

To me, from yesterday's news article, what has convinced them a crime has been committed is clear. A lover who may have gotten her pregnant whose story of where he was that day doesn't jibe.

Or, a lover who didn't get her pregnant couldn't handle that she was perhaps ending the relationship and recommitting to her husband.

Or, a lover who did get her pregnant, and his wife found out. Hell hath no fury.

I am still wondering about the aunt posting on FB. If my daughter-in-law was missing, and my sister was posting things that were not true, I would tell her to stop it. If she continued, I would ask them to block her from posting. Surely she wouldn't do things to upset the apple cart or to make things harder for her nephew! So it's not just the radio station who set this talk in motion. It was stated sometime last week on there I though, by aunt.

Re water district employee truck: "...did they drive straight through the area or did they make a U-turn near the vehicle?"

"According to the track it looks like possibly they drove straight through the area, but there's a couple sets of tracks out here."

"We are trying to see if there's any tracks leading away. Possibly another vehicle was with this vehicle, so..."

"We're checking on foot tracks."

Wasn't her mom due out to visit within the next week or so anyway, when she disappeared? I would think if she was going to scope out the park, it would likely be on the Saturday. Jmo

His mom stated in the People Magazine article that he wasn't a suspect but I don't know if I would necessarily take that as fact until I hear it from LE. Not saying that he is a suspect but he may not be restricted to base simply because he hasn't been named a suspect by LE and therefore have no reason to restrict him to base. (Could the military restrict him to base if he was named as a suspect but not arrested or charged?)

The military can restrict him to base , restrict him to his home, even confine him to a room in the barracks for something as simple as being late to report to duty "x" amount of times in a month. He belongs to the military.

You mentioned "likely on Saturday." Why Saturday in particular?
I mean it's fine if it was Saturday, but why most likely Saturday? Was her husband working then, so it was better to go when she could go alone?
Or if he wasn't working, she wanted to go alone?
It seems like it has only been stated by her husband in the media about 7am Saturday, not her family stating they knew she was going there 7am Saturday.
IMOO.
