My little sister had teeth like hers- my parents never helped her with braces- and it was NOT a good home life..the first time I saw a picture of Celina I thought my sister and her teeth and how embarrassed she was of them..trying not to smile in photos like Celina did. Very hard on a young girl to be so self conscious ..

It reminded me of my daughter. Just when her adult teeth came in a friend took her to the park and she fell off a teeter totter and broke both front teeth in half. We had no $ as I was in nursing school and medical card would not cover so the dentist tried to fix as best he could but I did not see my girl smile until I got through school and worked and had insurance for caps/braces now I get to see her smile and she is 26. But from 6-7 until preteen no smile :( Very hard for me to see too. I felt I had let her down.

I can't find it now but read earlier that the police checked the river as part of a usual practice, not based on a specific lead or tip. Saw that at:

Also, about the other apartment in the house that I was curious about before (whether the family rented out rooms to strangers, etc, per the For Rent sign in the front window):

@Mary The tenant next door had moved out 3 weeks ago. It is a duplex.

That woman was on a news channel earlier saying she might have heard something late at night if they had still lived there.

Hi guys,
I just got here and have not had time to catch up yet but has it been shown that the body was NOT weighted down? If a rumor that was posted last night is true and she was weighted down it would have been very easy to put her in the water there. I don't think a body weighted down with cinder blocks and chains as reported in the rumor would move anywhere.

After that amount of time it is my opinion the body would have started releasing gases and oils that would have attracted the flies.

All of the above is my opinion only.

Wow! Just checked his FB for the first time. He liked a link that made me want to vomit.

IMO, maybe a sexual urge thing??? Have to wait and see.
Children in water (learned in the Cantu case) is usually a woman thing.
Men usually bury or dump........IIRC.
Is this another type of cover up as in parent s.........??????

What FACTS do we KNOW about parents? (list?)

I have FB and checked out his site a few days ago. What I didn't check out were the friends he has. OMG --

Most are...cough, cough...models.

I'd say 70% of his friends you would probably see in an adult male magazine.

Who woulda thunk. If my hubby had these friends on his FB account, he'd be in uber trouble!

Mel
He got these fake "friends" through spam. Lots of people complain about the spam to FB, but WN accepted these fake friend (spam) requests for unknown reasons. In the case of Webhoneyz, if you make a friend with one "honey", you immediately become friends with all the "honeyz".

I thought of her too esp after watching a show on ID the other night on her. Such a sad case.

This was my first thought. No one cared. Even if you do not have insurance,
welfare can help and many dentists in my area will take a payment plan to help a child's teeth.
It is sorta neglect IMO at age 11.
Yes I would think that it would be hard on a yound girl .........teasing and all.
Bless Celina, R.I.P.

I agree -- it's very difficult to scrounge up money for dental work. We had to for our son, to a tune of $1500 to widen his jaw at a young age. But we most certainly sacrificed and did it. At age 11 she must have felt really ackward.

I know how I felt...the kid with the huge overbite. My folks couldn't afford for 2 kids to get braces, so the worst one got them (being my sister). I wanted the perfect teeth! But in the end, it wasn't so bad (and quite minimal cosmetically compared to Celina's).

Another pain in the butt with these is that some of them appear to be messages from your actual friends. That's one of the reasons people open them.

At 11-years-old her teeth were still forming. She hadn't lost her molars. They could have waited to see if they would straighten out by themselves.

One of the saddest things about following this whole case for me is reading some of the comments made about her teeth. I know that she won't ever be able to read them, but her friends and family might. And it just makes me uncomfortable. It's like talking about somebody's 'flaws' behind his/her back to me, and that's something I just can't stand. And I don't see how it's even relevant.

My brother had teeth like Celina's for awhile and they absolutely would not touch them until he was 12 or 13. I forget why exactly, but insurance/money wasn't an issue at all. I like to think that Celina had family that would have fixed her teeth eventually and it was just a growing issue that made them wait a bit. It isn't necessarily a sign of neglect or anything else.

Did any articles say dogs were used in tracking Celina?

Do we know how her home life was like before her disppearance?

It bothered me allot to see her teeth. Looks like she didn't have proper
dental care. I'm to fussy maybe about teeth.

I am too passion. If my child had teeth coming in like CC apparently did, I would have requested a special dental visit for an opinion at least...much can be done very early...and there is no reason for a child to suffer possible kidding and humiliation.

I'm sure the length of time in the water has some effect, but not being a doctor or coroner, I don't have that information.

From what I have read and previous cases, the temperature of the water makes a big difference and somebody said the water is warm near the dam.

Anyone else?
Warm water will make a body decompose faster. The news here has been full of a story of the body of a diver who was reported missing back in 1994 being found a day or two ago over 200 feet deep in Lake Tahoe. The water in the lake is cold and down that deep, it's very cold. They are saying that the man's body was intact which would never have happened in warmer water, even with the wet suit and dive gear they found the body in.

I think when the ME says "autopsy results are pending" means it's not an apparent death when the physical autopsy is done. The results are pending until the tox report comes in.

If she was strangled the hyoid bone would be broken & petechiae in the eyes. A drowning would show water in the lungs. Etc.

There's no reason not to release the results of an autopsy if there were an apparent cause of death.

Funny you should mention this. I somehow missed that post. Can you remember where, or bump up this rumor? Coincidentally, I saw another rumor today that said that someone had possibly stolen some items matching that description from their former employer...

At this point I'm not going to add to the off topic direction and ask for backup on that, but if there's allegations of sexual contact from an adult with the victim I'd love to see the facts that support those statements.

No problem. I will even go a step further and support some of the statements made earlier in this thread:

http://www.mincava.umn.edu/documents/sexoff/sexoff.html

"Based on police-recorded incident data, in 90% of the rapes of children younger than 12, the child knew the offender..."

"Among 906,000 offenders confined in State prisons in 1994, 88,000, or 9.7%, were violent sex offenders..."

NOTE: In general ALL sex crimes are under reported by a ration of three or four to one. It is also likely that the violent sexual offenders are MORE likely to be reported, prosecuted, and successfully convicted due to under reporting of non-violent crimes and difficulties in prosecution. Obviously, the term non-violent in this sense is not intended to downplay the horror or mental devistation any attack like this would cause, but is used instead in its technical sense.

"...the percentage of all murders with known circumstances in which investigators identified rape or another sex offense as the principal circumstance of the murder has declined from about 2% of murders to less than 1%"

No it does not mean that at all. She said the same thing "cause of death is pending until toxicology results are back" about a young mother that was killed, and now it is alleged the mother was hit on the head several times. There could be a very obvious cause of death. She could be just buying time and doesn't want to tell the public what the cause of death it.

A lot of them come in as friend requests, some men don't realize what these are, and think, "man this hot chick want's me."
I know this my brother did this and said just that.

That is fascinating about women and water! I never heard it before. Do you have a citation or can you suggest where I could read more?

The Murders

And mothers frequently dispose of the corpses in what researchers call a "womblike" fashion. Bodies are swaddled, submerged in water , or wrapped in plastic. Moreover, the NCMEC study showed that while the victims of maternal killings are almost always found either in or close to the home, fathers will, on average, dispose of the bodies hundreds of miles away. All these behaviors suggest that women associate these murders with themselves, their homes, and their bodies.
