Just a thought. The body has not been CONFIRMED as Tia? (Or have I missed something?) Why would that take so long unless they are not sure if it is? The arrest is for murder and they are no longer looking but why no confirmation?

Are they carrying out a post mortem on an as yet unidentified body?
They must be sure it's her because her name is on the charge sheet as being the person Stuart Hazell murdered.

They have not officially identified the body yet,I would have thought that the pathologist would have been able to take a sample and send it to be tested to give a positive I.D.

Unless the body has been destroyed in someway with household chemicals.

Need a DNA sample from one of the parents, and process is labour intensive/can take time unless a rush is put on it. This is why other methods are prefered.

The other thing is would the Police allow the already angry public to lay 1000's of flowers & condolenses on the street for Tia if it wasnt her ?? It has to be her, but why the delay for formal identification is baffling ?? If her mother isnt upto it, why not her biological father ?? Something not right here !

I'm thinking that, if you're doing a post mortem on a body which has lain somewhere for days, you're naturally going to have your forensic entomologist right there, as he or she will definitely be needed. Can that really be the reason for the procedure to be delayed?

Maybe they dont trust the family to identify the body in case its not her & they say it is ??

DO NOT speculate about pregnancy UNLESS you have something to link it to. This child is 12 years old. There is no reason to make this worse than it is. If you can link it, the rule will change - but we are not pulling it out of thin air and plastering it all over the net.

There are times when I believe the accused should be required to identify the body, in the interests of gaining swift confession and in this instance, who better than 'grandad'

Often, I believe killers should be compelled to view their handiwork

This may be naive but I've assumed that SH must have admitted to it being Tia or it is obvious that it is a female of Tia's age/height/build but that they are not allowed to confirm until certain formal identification procedures have been followed. Once these procedures have been carried out, it will be publically confirmed that it is Tia.

You really can't ask a relative to look at the face of their daughter who has been dead for 8 days in a hot loft. They would have nightmares for the rest of their lives - that is if she's even reconisable! They're gonna have to formally identify her some other way.

The same article reports: BBC Home Affairs Correspondent Danny Shaw said: "It is understood there was bruising to her body."

From what I've heard via the media, bruising only happens when someone is alive. Blood pools where there is pressure, as in the victim was lying on it's right side, but that's not the same as bruising.

So we can assume she was beaten and the smothering occurred to keep her quiet.

Another disturbing possibility - would a violent sexual assault not also result in bruising?

DOn't they need a paediatric pathologist? and then some other specialists....

I would imagine they would rather delay than slip up.

If they needed an Entomologist to continue the post mortem why even start it in the first place ?? Come on, i know its summer holidays & the Olympics have been on, but do we on not have more than a few of these experts on our books ??

The UK is a big country, we pay people big wages to do this sort of work, they will move country to work here if they have to. Theres more than one Quincy.

I think the poster was suggesting a possible motive Salem, nothing else.

This is true. I don't want to be stifle debate here , but I would like some guidance from WS admin what posters from the UK are allowed to talk about.

I know about the sub judice law, but don't really understand it enough to know what can and can't be discussed.

We don't have that information. WS is a US based Corp. It is the poster's responsibility to work within the laws of the area they are posting in - so if you are in the UK, you should be aware of any limitations that country may impose on you.

So, MODS - can we sleuth Paul Meehan now even though he was not charged w/ her murder but named in MSM?

So your telling me nobody has to identify a body formally if its hot & been dead for more than 7 days ??

Maybe her body is too damaged to allow the family to identify her. I know sometimes they don't allow family members to identify the body if the condition of the body is too far gone, also, to save more pain for the family.
