SANFORD – Jose Baez, Casey Anthony's defense attorney, this week wrote a short snippy letter to the judge in the George Zimmerman case, accusing prosecutor Bernie de la Rionda of getting his facts wrong in court Friday when he said Baez had been held in contempt of court during the Anthony trial.

Baez was fined for failing to turn over evidence, he wrote, but was never found in contempt. And the $583.73 fine had nothing to do with Baez's comments to the media, something de la Rionda suggested as he tried but failed to convince Circuit Judge Debra S. Nelson to impose a gag order in the Zimmerman case.

"I am certain that Mr. De la Rionda was more careful with his other argument, however, I will ask him personally to please verify his facts in the future before recklessly attempting to tarnish any other members of the Central Florida legal community," Baez wrote in his letter to Nelson.

Casey Anthony's lawyers: Don't let Zenaida Gonzalez claim lost wages at civil trial

Gonzalez, the defense says, "falsely claimed her lack of employment was the result of statements made by Casey Anthony."

"The truth is that [Gonzalez] has rarely been employed and has subsisted on food stamps and other government assistance for most of her life," the new motion by Anthony's defense states.

Attorneys for Zenaida Gonzalez, the Kissimmee woman suing Casey Anthony for defamation, got a judge to approve their request for a delay in the civil trial.
No date was set.

Gonzalez's lawyers wanted the trial delayed because they don't want Anthony to rely on the Fifth Amendment to avoid their questions because of her ongoing criminal appeal of her lying to law-enforcement convictions.

WKMG-Channel 6 will offer what it is billing as a major story in the Casey Anthony saga.
The report, from Tony Pipitone, won’t air until 11 p.m. Tuesday. But WKMG will start promoting the report at 11 p.m. Monday.

“This is one of the biggest Tony Pipitone investigations we’ve had,” WKMG news director Steve Hyvonen said. “Tony uncovers evidence that could have changed the jury’s mind — evidence that points right at Casey. But it was never presented in court because the prosecution didn’t know about it. Tony is still working on putting the story together, and it will air Tuesday night at 11.”

A promotional spot for the report shows a shaken Jose Baez, who represented Anthony, saying, “I don’t understand how no one ever knew about this evidence.”
