    Found Deceased France - Émile S., 2, outside grandparent’s house, Le Vernet, Alpes-de-Haute-Provence, 8 July 2023

Yes, that’s a house - the Chapelle St Panacre doesn’t appear on the Sun’s aerial photo (off the bottom edge). The correct location for the discovery site is the Ravin des Auches, out to the west of Haut Vernet and not close to the chapel.

Not necessarily - this area was reported as having been extensively searched early on. But the searches may have concentrated on the accessible ground, while the body was trapped on steep escarpment above, inaccessible to search parties and shielded from the view of helicopters and drones by...

TF1 also suggesting an area near the top of the Ravin des Auches (see below). Some possibility that he wandered to this point, mistook traffic/lights on the D900 road below for the village and tried to head directly towards it, resulting in a fall. (MOO)

Current thinking seems to be more specifically around the Ravin des Auches. See 12.43pm update: https://www.lefigaro.fr/faits-divers/mort-d-emile-la-randonneuse-qui-a-decouvert-les-ossements-a-depose-le-crane-a-la-gendarmerie-20240401

IMO the most likely scenario is that the skull has rolled down from steep terrain above the location where it was found (cf Esther Dingley). With the information currently available my inclination is towards an accident, with no third party involvement (ie tried to follow the older children to...

A similar exercise relating to the Chevaline murders was carried out in 2021 to better ascertain the timelines of the various witnesses on the day. As a result the motorcyclist encountered by forest rangers was arrested, but released without charge soon after.

he arrived back at the depot at about 4.50pm. His colleague, Paul Stiller, had just taken delivery of a new car and they went together to see it. https://www.thenorthernecho.co.uk/news/2047286.the-gazelle-fighting-life-felt-like/

UK - Brian Low, 65, shot while walking dog, Aberfeldy, 17th February 2024

As to the delay in recognising the bullet wound - it’s unusual, but not unknown. John “Goldfinger” Palmer’s gunshot wounds were initially mistaken for scars from keyhole surgery and not properly identified until six days after his death...

I can only suppose at this stage that a hunting accident is ruled out on the basis of the bullet(s) recovered. Between that and the initial difficulty spotting that he had been shot, my current guess would be a small calibre handgun. As to the location of the wound, difficult to say - inside the...

Was it ever made clear whether the driver’s seat was pushed back to the limit of travel or just to somewhere near it? It’s the difference between pushing the seat back to (eg) change shoes/pick up something from the seat well or it being actually adjusted for a taller driver.

France - 5 shot, 4 dead in French Alps, may have int'l ramifications, 2012 #2

Very local IMO. To my mind, the two things which have most significantly hampered this inquiry are adherence to the psychological profile and timeline confusion.

Heh. Not heard that one before, but it sums it up so well. Very "we didn't burn him!"

    Found Deceased France - Émile S., 2, outside grandparent’s house, Le Vernet, Alpes-de-Haute-Provence, 8 July 2023

Haut Vernet residents re-interviewed; forensic inspection of vehicles; investigators’ attitudes ‘hardening.’ The tone has changed. The questions are more incisive and compassion has given way to extreme firmness, almost two weeks after Émile's disappearance. About twenty investigators from the...
