GUILTY on all 3 Counts!!! Post-Verdict Thread

Back <modsnip>. There's a lot I could say, but I'll keep it short. I'm very relieved that the jury reached the right verdict, that MTR is going where he belongs, and I trust he will never have freedom again. That this was the appropriate decision became obvious at about 5:40 p.m. on May 10th...

Trial Thread - 9 May 2012 Judge to give Jury Instructions

According to previously-heard evidence, this is simply not true. At the very least, TLM also changed her version as to whose idea it was to purchase the hammer and garbage bags. And yet, in previous in testimony (evidence) by TLM, she claimed that she did. So, was this another lie, or is...

Trial Thread - 9 May 2012 Judge to give Jury Instructions

The Crown is telling the jury that MTR panicked after his May 15 interview with LE and one of his attempts at covering his tracks was getting a new phone. And yet, we have previous testimony by a Bell representative that it was before the interview that MTR got a new phone...

Trial Thread - 9 May 2012 Judge to give Jury Instructions

Good morning. Carried over from the previous thread re my question about the tiny blood stain on the car door moulding. If I were on the jury (and I'm thankful that I'm not), I'd have "reasonable doubt" as to how and when that little bit of Tori's blood ended up and remained on the open...

Trial Thread 8 May 2012 Wrapping up Closing Arguments

I have many, many questions, but it's late so I'll just ask one. The Crown maintains that there was minimal to no blood spatter from Tori's murder because of the garbage bag covering her. So, therefore (according to the Crown) the tiny speck of her blood on the car door moulding could not be...

Trial Thread 8 May 2012 Wrapping up Closing Arguments

Thanks, siestalola, but I still can't find it. I followed LFP today and I've looked again through today's Tweets and don't see this reference. I did find a comment by them, though, that they do not have a good view of the jury from the overflow room from where they are Tweeting. (They are not...

RH, do you have the exact copy of the tweet with the originating site? Which reporter/station are you following? Just asking because I follow more than five and missed this about the jury tearing up. TIA

Trial Thread 7 May 2012 - Closing Arguments, Defense then the Crown

(RSBM) I thought that was R. Williams. No, wait. Isn't it P. Bernardo? Or is it C. Olsen? Oh, you mean this week! So sad and unfortunate that someone new always seems to come along to take over this title. JMO

Trial Thread 7 May 2012 - Closing Arguments, Defense then the Crown

The defence does not have to prove his client's innocence. The Crown has to prove his guilt ... beyond a reasonable doubt. The defence's only job is to cast doubt on the Crown's version of events, which is exactly what he has been doing. JMO

Trial Thread 7 May 2012 - Closing Arguments, Defense then the Crown

(RSBM) One does not volunteer to take the stand, but has to be called upon by either the Crown or the defence. If she was not subpoenaed to do so, it can only mean that anything she had to say about that phone call was of no use to either side. I doubt he confessed to anything to his mother...

I'm not sure if this has been pointed out, so I thought I would. First of all, I believe that if MTR is convicted on all three counts, he will not get out of prison in 25 years. I'm fairly certain that in that case, he will spend the rest of his life there. It's pretty easy for us to sit...

I'm no legal expert either, but my guess is this jury can't convict him on anything he hasn't been charged with. First he would need to be charged with other crimes and I think there would have to be a separate trial for those charges unless he immediately pleads guilty to them. However, I...

ITA. I have never in the past three years ever claimed that I thought he was "innocent". I consistently maintained before the trial that I have not seen or heard any evidence to point to guilt. There is a difference. Since the trial began, I am convinced that he was involved and that he...

Very true. But only if the defence were aware that those witnesses even existed. Hypothetically, if TLM had a plan to sell Tori to a human trafficking ring, but decided to blame MTR instead for whatever reason, the defence would have no idea, no proof, and no one from this ring would step up...

Very good point. I also don't believe that the witness confused her days. Not if she saw the same woman walking up Fyfe with a little girl within minutes of that school sighting. And she gave this statement to LE just a few days later. You don't make mistakes about something this important...

(RSBM) IMO, this is the big stretch. Why would he need to do that at all? Stranger abductions of children happen (although not as often as one would think here) without partners all the time. He didn't have to approach any school, especially that school. Look around. I've been doing it...

(RSBM) ITA. I've said it before but I have to say it again. If there had been even one other woman wearing a white jacket picking up a child at that school on that day, LE would have found her and ruled her out. If they were doing a thorough investigation of this witness's claim, they...

I believe IMHO that this piece of evidence was one of several that was taken entirely out of context and twisted about to make it look different than what it actually was. Derstine should have clarified this during his cross. The fact is that MTR and SH didn't start seeing each other until...

The only evidence we have that he actually had such a fantasy or that he planned the abduction is TLM's testimony. This is not enough to convince me. If and when we hear any more verifiable evidence to prove this, I am open to changing my mind. This again, as with so much of this case, is...
