Misty Croslin's Family Points Finger at Relative

Police confirm the FBI has talked to Joe. Croslin's father says he spoke to police about the teenager on Tuesday. "I was into the police station yesterday telling them everything. I hope I don't get in trouble for saying, but ya know. I don't know what else to do."
The First Coast News I-team has found Joe's myspace page. The last posting on his site is from February 22, 2009. A friend by the name of Thomas told Joe, "Just go back down there and help find the lil girl it just might clear your name."

The Croslins say about two weeks before Haleigh disappeared, Joe and Haleigh's dad, Ronald Cummings, had an issue over a gun. "He stole Ronald's gun. One morning, on the porch, said, Ronald will get what's coming to him. It was dropped, he left and Haleigh was gone," says Lisa Croslin.
Police confirm they are investigating the information about the stolen gun.
A week and a half ago, when police were asked if Joe was a suspect police said, "The one in Tennessee? No, he is not at all." But then later, police changed their comment to no one has been ruled in or out as a suspect.
"The way I understand it, they're not ruling them out. I don't want to get in trouble for things I say, I don't know. The police is doing their jobs," says Hank Croslin.

Camp Asked to Move
Last Update: 1:00 am
<snipped>
SATSUMA, Fla. -- It's been three weeks since Haleigh Cummings disappeared. And adding stress to an already stressful situation is the fact that her mother's family says they've been asked to move their camp.
Haleigh's grandmother, Marie Griffis, told us the property manager came out Tuesday, and while he didn't give them a firm date, told them it was time to start thinking about packing up their camp and moving it elsewhere.
This is the same camp where the missing 5-year-old's family sits and waits everyday for Haleigh to come home. "It's kinda aggravating. The worst part about it is my daughter Crystal went to crying, because this is as close as we can get to Haleigh," says Griffis.
Despite the request, the family is determined to wait it out. They are now looking for someone who owns property nearby to allow them to use their land.

“I want the whole community to be involved…because this is a big deal. I don’t want them to just pay two dollars for the cover charge. I want them to pay five dollars…10 dollars…anything they can give. If they’re going to have a good time they can give up a little bit of money for this cause,” said Ziolko.

SATSUMA, FL -- Haleigh Cumming's grandmother says she has a doctor's appointment later this month.
Teresa Neves says it's one her two routine checkups for Turner syndrome.
"She has on her feet, some of her toes are very wide like they're two toes in one. She has a birthmark on the left side of her face and then she has another tiny one," Neves told First Coast News' Erich Spivey.
At the family's first daytime vigil, Haleigh's great-grandmother read a poem sent to Haleigh after she vanished. It's called Tears.
"Tears show that you're alive, with love and compassion that flows from your eyes," Annette Sykes read.

Caylee Anthony, Haleigh Cummings: Cases' key similarities, differences
Helen Eckinger | Sentinel Staff Writer
March 5, 2009
<snipped>
The day everyone said goodbye to Caylee Marie Anthony, the world learned about another missing little girl. So TV trucks rolled from the 2-year-old's memorial in Orlando to a double-wide trailer about 80 miles away in Putnam County — the place where 5-year-old Haleigh Cummings was last seen alive.
"It was déjà vu all over again," said Bob Longo, news director for WESH-Channel 2.
During the following days, the pack of satellite trucks parked near Haleigh Cummings' home in tiny Satsuma rivaled the media turnout after Caylee's remains were found in December near her home in east Orange County.
But soon, reporters on the latest missing-little-girl story began leaving Satsuma.
It wasn't déjà vu after all.
Haleigh's story is fading after three weeks, but the Anthony saga has remained in the headlines for almost eight months.
The contrast between the tents and trailer in Satsuma where Haleigh's family pleaded for her return and the Anthonys' suburban home points to one of the reasons Haleigh's story is fading from the headlines, said Roy Peter Clark, senior scholar at the Poynter Institute.

Strange twists stand out
The Anthony case has all the elements and more of the kind of stories guaranteed to draw an audience: sex, crime and general interest, said Paul Lachelier, an assistant professor of sociology at Stetson University.
So are other details, including the serious charges against the young mother, frequent courtroom battles and the behavior of her parents, George and Cindy Anthony.
The photos and videos of Caylee also captivate viewers.
The case also has provided bizarre twists and turns, beginning when Casey Anthony was arrested after claiming Caylee had been missing for 30days.
"There is constant fuel for the fire," Mason said.
The Haleigh case hasn't offered as many twists and turns. News crews scrambled recently after cadaver dogs hit on a scent in a dumpster. But the container was searched and nothing was found.
Most media coverage of Haleigh's disappearance has revolved around her family's pleas for her safe return.

Fewer leaks, less to say
Law enforcement has released little information about its investigation into Haleigh's disappearance, unlike the Caylee case, which was marked by frequent news conferences and leaks from insiders.
"The return of Haleigh is the most important thing, but we also have a crime involved somewhere with her disappearance," Capt. Dick Schauland of the Putnam County Sheriff's Office said. "We're trying not to jeopardize the criminal investigation or possible future prosecution."
For Orlando media, coverage also has been hampered because Satsuma is far away — a two-hour drive for some — and because Putnam County isn't considered part of its market. Jordan, WFTV's news director, and Steve Hyvonen, news director for WKMG-Channel 6, had different opinions about the Anthony case: Hyvonen said that the story continues to generate strong ratings and that WKMG viewers are clamoring for more coverage, while Jordan said his station is no longer seeing the rating spikes that occurred early on in the case, and that he thinks viewers might be getting sick of the story. The directors said their stations have received little viewer feedback about the Haleigh story.
"We have been up there just because it's such a significant story," Hyvonen said.
"But as each day goes by without a new development, it get a little lower as far as where it plays in the newscast."

Police take more DNA samples in Haleigh case
Published: Thursday, March 5, 2009 1:17 AM EST
<snipped>
The samples, sought by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, were taken to ensure investigators had good DNA materials from relatives and others who were around Haleigh Cummings, a sheriff's spokesman said. Among those giving samples was Misty Croslin, the girlfriend of Haleigh's father who was babysitting the little girl when she vanished.
Samples had been taken earlier, said Capt. Dick Shauland, spokesman for the Putnam County Sheriff's Office. "Evidently they weren't good so they resulted in having to retake them," Shauland said.
Shauland compared to samples to other forms of identification.
"It's sort of like FDLE having a record of them, like fingerprints," he said.

Also Wednesday, Haleigh's maternal grandmother said she had heard rumors that one lead in the case involving a cousin of Croslin. "I don't know that it's going to take them anywhere," Teresa Neves said. "I don't know the guy or what kind of questions they asked. I can only trust them (police) to do that." Shauland said investigators were following tips wherever they might lead. "The cousin is still in the mix, as is everybody else," Shauland said. "We haven't eliminated anybody." Shauland acknowledged the family's interest in leads from the case.
"They have legitimate concerns," he said. "All of this stuff is still being followed up by the detectives to be sure."
Meanwhile, Neves said Haleigh's father, Ronald Cummings, was looking to buy a home."He has a small amount of money for a down payment," she said.

Haleigh 'not a cold case,' says Putnam official
Published: Thursday, March 5, 2009 at 6:01 a.m.

The agency has no information indicating that Haleigh can't be found and investigators haven't given up that they will find her safe.
Five detectives, as well as officials with the FBI and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, are involved in the investigation that now has generated about 2,300 tips, according to the law enforcement agency.
Inside a tent outside the Satsuma neighborhood that is Haleigh's home, the child's mother and maternal grandmother said they too haven't given up hope, even as the case entered its fourth week.
Looking over a collection of stuffed animals from well-wishers, Haleigh's mother, Crystal Sheffield, who is from Baker County, said she has no plans to leave the area until her daughter is found.
"I'm not leaving till she's home," she said.
Marie Sheffield, Haleigh's maternal grandmother, echoed her daughter's remarks and those of officers who continue to work toward finding the girl alive.
"Until they bring me Haleigh's body and lay it in my arms, I'll believe Haleigh is alive," Marie Sheffield said.

Still no sign of Haleigh

- Three weeks later and thousands of tips and still no sign of Haleigh Cummings. She vanished from her Satsuma, Florida trailer in the middle of the night. On Thursday her family cleaned the trailer out saying they're simply too heart-sick to live there after what happened.
Ronald Cummings Great Grandmother Annete Sykes tells us its not as though Ronald hates the media, she says right now he’s just all nerves wondering where his little girl is.
As soon as Ronald Cummings asked us to turn off our cameras we did. Sykes says Ronald didn’t want anyone to see what was going on inside his home. “Put yourself in his place to have to go in the room where his little girl was stolen from…he couldn’t handle it…he just broke down.”

Sykes tells us the home is just about the same way they left it. “There’s just Haleigh all over the house…cleaning her room was the hardest…because she has her toys and everything. Her pictures are hanging all over the wall…and her clothes are there…her toys are there…they’re even on the front porch, they’re on the yard…everywhere you look they’re there.
The big reason Ronald’s Relatives were inside this home is because they wanted to look through and clean it up and get it ready for the media. They say they want to show you how she lived, and how much she was loved.
Sykes says within the next few days she will be willing to take us on a tour of Haleigh’s home.

Family Members Return To Haleigh's Home
Day 24 Of Search For Missing 5-Year-Old
POSTED: Thursday, March 5, 2009
UPDATED: 6:33 pm EST March 5, 2009
<snipped>
Last week, police took down their crime scene tape and said family was allowed inside the Cummings' home. At the time, many family members couldn't bring themselves to go inside. On Thursday, Haleigh's great-grandmother, Annette Sykes, stepped inside to tidy up the home before TV cameras are allowed to enter.
Signs of Haleigh could be seen outside the home -- her pink and blue bike and other little toys. Inside, Sykes said the rooms once filled with the girl's laughter are now filled with sorrow.
"There's just Haleigh all over the house … there are toys and everything. Her pictures are on the walls and her clothes are there, the toys are there, even on the porch and in the yard. Everywhere you look, they're there," Sykes said. She said she has dreaded the day when she would have to step foot inside the home. She went in to help straighten up the home from the way police left it after their search. "The things that she played with the most are left out there right where they were. Her favorite stuff is there where she had it," Sykes said.

Haleigh's father, Ronald Cummings, and his girlfriend, Misty Croslin, also entered the home to get some of their belongings. Family members said stepping into the once happy home was more pain than Cummings could bear. "He tried to go back to the room from where his little girl was stolen. He couldn’t do it. He said he couldn’t do it, and we had to get him out of there," Sykes said.
The family has been staying in tents near the home as they've waited for any news about Haleigh; however, on Thursday, they received a letter from the county stating it is against county ordinance to camp out in a residential area. The family is looking for a new place to stay.

New Details Emerge In Haleigh Cummings Disappearance
Last Update: 3/04 10:10 pm
<snipped>
SATSUMA, Fla. -- In the days leading up to Haleigh Cummings disappearance, family and friends tell us there was no indication anything was different in the small community of Satsuma. The family of the girl who put Haleigh Cummings to sleep and was the last person to see her is speaking out about who they believe may have something to do with Haleigh’s disappearance.
“If my family there’s watching it I don’t care…I think that he needs to be brought here and questioned and interrogated by cops he don’t know,” said Lisa Croslin.
Croslin is talking about her nephew. The 19-year-old was in town a few weeks before Haleigh’s disappearance. She says before Haleigh was taken, her nephew got in a fight with Haleigh’s father, Ronald.
“What happened is he had stolen Ronald’s gun…and one morning on the porch he said Ronald would get what’s coming to him…then it was dropped, and he left," said Lisa Croslin.
Croslin says her nephew left the day Haleigh was abducted. She also tells us a light blue van her nephew might have drove was confiscated and analyzed by police. Croslin’s husband Hank says a mysterious gash appeared on the side of the van the night Haleigh disappeared.
The Croslins say they’re positive their daughter had nothing to do with Haleigh’s disappearance. They also say they’re putting their faith in the police to investigate everyone including their own family.

Family falling Ill
Last Update: 9:19 am
<snipped>
SATSUMA, Fla. -- It's now been 23 days since Haleigh Cummings vanished from her Putnam County home. Her disappearance has left her family emotionally distraught, and now, physically ill.
Teresa Neves, Haleigh's grandmother, says many people in their camp are coming down with colds and the flu. And Wednesday, Haleigh's father, Ronald, and his girlfriend, Misty Croslin, reportedly went to the doctor seeking treatment for anxiety.
Neves say the only thing keeping her son sane these days is his little boy, Junior. "Ronald had all day today with Junior. They went and played and done little boy things," says Neves.
Ronald is also becoming extremely protective of Junior. He no longer wants the 4-year-old's face shown on television. He's worried that if Haleigh could be kidnapped, Junior could too. Neves says, "He was put out there for the world to see and as far as we're concerned, his life is endangered."

PUTNAM COUNTY, FL -- It was another difficult day for the family of Haleigh Cummings. There's still no sign of the missing 5-year old girl.
No one has stayed in the Satsuma home where Haleigh lived her disappearance in the middle of the night 24 days ago.
Thursday, Haleigh's father, Ronald Cummings along with his mother and his grandmother went back into the home to try and collect some things and clean things up.
The grandmother says it was too hard for Ronald Cummings. He had to leave.
"There's Haleigh all over the house. In her room was the hardest part because all of her favorite toys were exactly where she had left them," said Annette Sykes.
The family plans to move from the home, but in the meantime they are still camped out near the place where Haleigh was last seen.

Family straightens up in Cummings home while others prepare to move vigil site
Published: Friday, March 6, 2009 1:29 AM EST

"I'm just picking up the mess that was made, I guess, when everybody was going through everything," said Annette Sykes, Haleigh's paternal great-grandmother.
"They even tore out the wall where the hot water heater was."
She said when the media is allowed to tour the house, it will look as close as possible to when Ronald Cummings, his daughter Haleigh and son Ronald Jr., lived there.
"The toughest part was working in her room," she said. "It's when I come out, when I'm done, when I leave."
Tips called in to law enforcement for the missing Satsuma girl are up to 2,400, said Capt. Dick Shauland, spokesman for the Putnam County Sheriff's Office.
"Some are valid and some aren't, but we have to check them all," he said. "We still have five detectives working on the case, running down leads."

On Thursday afternoon, Neves said Ronald was passing out flyers for his missing daughter. "He found some places that didn't have flyers and that's what he's doing today, passing out flyers."
Neves said family members missed a certain item while cleaning inside the Cummings home. "There is something missing from the trailer that should be there," she said. "I don't know if it was taken for evidence or whoever took Haleigh took it."
The missing item belongs to Haleigh, she said. "It's something that should always be there for her," she said.
Neves said she could not explain what the item was because of the ongoing investigation. Shauland said he had no idea what Neves was talking about, when authorities removed items as evidence a receipt for each item was issued to the family.

Haleigh case puts new Putnam sheriff to the test
Jeff Hardy leads his department's transition while coordinating efforts to find the missing 5-year-old
Story updated at 10:32 AM on Friday, Mar. 6, 2009
<snipped>
The attention has contributed to the more than 2,400 leads detectives have been picking apart for clues.
"We're trying not to miss anything," Hardy said. "Some of this stuff, we're going back three, four, five, six, seven times and we'll continue."
Twists and turns
Family members of the missing girl said investigators are keeping them in the loop.
"I think they are doing everything that they can," said Marie Griffis, Haleigh's grandmother. So far, it appears that little evidence has been unearthed. She wishes the detective assigned to keep her daughter, Crystal Sheffield, informed could say if any leads have been productive.
"I've got a zillion questions I would like to ask him," she said. "But I know he can't answer."

Sometimes the hard truths have been evasive.
One seemingly undisputed fact - that Haleigh was wearing a pink top when she disappeared - crumbled. Nearly a week after it was included in a statewide Amber Alert, Croslin found the top in a laundry pile when detectives allowed her back to the mobile home for the first time.
Croslin's own recollection of events surrounding the disappearance shifted, from a description of sleeping in the same bed with Haleigh to an explanation that she was really across the room.
New developments, tips and lie detector tests have sometimes turned into nothing more than sidetracks.
When cadaver dogs hit on a construction trash bin about a tenth of a mile from Cummings' double-wide, investigators rebuffed questions about the intensity of earlier searches at the site. The arrest of a nearby sex predator on a curfew violation got a lot of attention, but tracking devices indicate he wasn't near the Cummings home when Haleigh disappeared.
A visiting cousin who left Putnam that day for Tennessee also generated suspicions. But the Sheriff's Office said he was questioned and not a suspect, though, like family members and others, he's subject to be interviewed again.
As the case draws toward its one-month mark, investigators say only that they continue to follow its twists and turns and intend to see it through to the end.

Family Returns To Haleigh's Home
Father Of Missing Girl Says He Couldn't Enter Her Room
POSTED: Friday, March 6, 2009

Signs of Haleigh could be seen outside the home -- her pink and blue bike and other little toys, WJXT-TV reported. Inside, Sykes said the rooms once filled with the girl's laughter are now filled with sorrow.
Though a painful task, she said she wants the home to look like the last time she saw Haleigh, at 7 p.m. before the night the child disappeared.
"They put their plates down and came and gave me a hug and a kiss. I gave Misty the clean clothes and she carried them in the house. Then, I left. I kissed her goodbye, and I left," Sykes said.

Haleigh's father, Ronald Cummings, and his girlfriend, Misty Croslin, also entered the home to get some of their belongings. Family members said stepping into the once happy home was more pain than Cummings could bear.

Developing Story: First Look Inside Haleigh's Home

SATSUMA, FL -- News crews are now getting the first pictures from inside the home where Haleigh Cummings slept on the night she vanished almost four weeks ago. The home at 202 Green Lane had been sealed since Haleigh disappeared up until February 26 when investigators released the home back to her family. Now, we're seeing the bed where Misty Croslin said she put Haleigh down to sleep around 8 p.m. on February 9. The tiny bed is just feet from where Croslin said she and Haleigh's younger brother slept.
Haleigh's Christmas stocking is still hanging on the wall, along with some of her baby pictures. Last night, family members went back into the home for the first time to gather some personal belongings.
The family of Ronald Cummings wanted to show the house to keep the search for Haleigh alive.

Not far from Haleigh's home, the Spur Saloon is doing what it can to help the little girl's family. The saloon is collecting money from patrons between Thursday and Saturday nights until Haleigh comes home.
The owners of the saloon set out several large, empty water jugs for people to drop money into. The saloon also won't charge people a cover. Several hundred people visited the saloon Thursday night and left plenty of donations.
The Spur Saloon is located at 101 10th street in Palatka, and it's open from Noon to 2 a.m.

Fund Raiser For Haleigh
Last Update: 12:57 am

PALATKA, Fla. -- The people of Putnam County are holding on to hope, and helping Haleigh Cummings' family any way they can.
Thursday night, Spurs Saloon in Downtown Palatka started a fundraiser for Haleigh. They're collecting cash at the door, and because of people like Ryan Rivers, the jar is filling up fast. "Because I have a little girl who's 8-years-old and if anything like that was to happen to my little girl, God knows, I would want anything and everything that could help her to help her," says Rivers.
If you'd like to participate, you can find Spurs Saloon on the corner of 10th Street and St. Johns Avenue in Downtown Palatka.
Spurs will hold the fundraiser every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday night until Haleigh comes home.

Thursday, her family went back inside to clean. It was intensely emotional for them, seeing all of Haleigh's toys still sitting where she left them.
Now, they tell us, for the very first time, they will allow our cameras to go inside the home on Friday. The trailer has been sitting empty since Haleigh disappeared. Her father says he will never live there again.

Family Allows Look Inside Bedroom Where Haleigh Disappeared
POSTED: Friday, March 6, 2009

SATSUMA, Fla. -- Haleigh Cummings' great-grandmother made a short but emotional journey Friday, taking Channel 4 and other media inside the mobile home where the 5-year-old was sleeping 25 days ago before she disappeared.Haleigh's shoes are still lined up by the bedroom door inside the double-wide mobile home, right next to her brother's and her dad's shoes.
Annette Sykes, Haleigh's great-grandmother, said the bedroom door was kept open at night and the television was always on.
"I can't see how they can get her in and out with the TV on," Sykes said.
Sykes pointed out the adjoining bathroom where Croslin went when she said she realized that Haleigh was gone.

Each room brought Sykes more painful memories of Haleigh and happier times. She hesitated the longest before entering Haleigh's bedroom.
"This is Haleigh's room, with all of her things. Her favorite things are over on her dresser -- makeup and fingernail polish were her favorite things," Sykes said.
She said Haleigh played in the room, but never slept there.
"Neither one of them slept in a room," Sykes said. "They wouldn't sleep in the room by themselves."
Sykes took the media inside the home hoping that whoever took Haleigh would realize it was once a happy home and would have a change of heart.
"Bring her home," Sykes said.

JACKSONVILLE, FL -- A young woman living on the Southside says she had a vision about the missing little girl while sleeping.
She dreamed about Haleigh Cummings being in Missouri.
Melanie says she dreamed about an open field in a city called "Adison." She woke up to look at the map. There is no town in Missouri named Adison, but there is one called Madison.
Melanie felt a little weird. The last time she had a vision like this it involved a boat that caught fire. She says soon after that dream, there was a boat fire.

Reminders of missing girl throughout home

SATSUMA - Christmas toys that were never assembled still wait on the porch of the mobile home where Haleigh Cummings disappeared last month.
Inside the home Friday, the mess caused during the investigation was cleaned up. Annette Sykes, Haleigh's paternal great-grandmother, showed reporters photos of Haleigh and her father, Ronald, that were on the walls of the family room.
As she walked through Ronald Jr.'s room, she said Haleigh and her brother often played together.
"They played in both rooms depending on what they were going to play," she said. "If they were going to play girlie things they would play in Haleigh's room. If they were going to play with cars and trucks they would play in Junior's room."

Meanwhile, the tent and camper set up in front of a home on Tyler Street where the Cummings family has maintained a vigil for Haleigh will be removed by order of the county, Teresa Neves, Haleigh's paternal grandmother, said.
"You can have a 14-day permit, but campers and tents are only allowed in campgrounds," she said Friday.
"Basically they said we are breaking the law because we are not in a campground."

She said she was hoping there would be enough parking at her mother's house in Welaka so the family could move the tent there.
"I think we will have the vigil Sunday at 5:30 p.m. then move Sunday night," she said.
