Since they can make an issue about the one woman's race, can the State make an issue about gender? I know JB is going to try and strike all the women with children/grandchildren... so are there any laws in place protecting women from being discriminated against in this process?

There has been complaints by viewers about LOUD commercials...it's not only TruTV...it seems to be on all the TV channels.

OT: FWIW I think the only thing that the Senate and the House accomplished within the past year on a Bi-partisan level was to vote to force commercials to not blast out the volume on the tv anymore . . . I don't remember the date this law goes into effect.

Back to topic: In Session is currently interviewing a Law Professor whom I find extremely interesting and she appears to have a good grasp on this case.

I've missed most of the morning but I'm seeing comments about AF. Is she really sick? The last thing we need if for trial to be delayed because Casey catches it.

So do I. Just five more months until my brother's murderer goes on trial. The closer it gets, the sicker I get. :(

I am so brain dead! I just saw this in your signature, and the photo. :(

Thank you all for your updates with the last woman. I had a client call me - "Oh you would like to pay your invoice tomorrow and could I meet you quickly at a location one block away for me so you could give it to me in person. Yes, of course, and I am so sorry you can't meet me for lunch but you have to meet your National Mgr for lunch? No Mr. So and So - I am just fine with a quick hello and a hand delivery - that is just fine with me"...:innocent:

Gotta love these loyal clients....:great:

Does Judge Perry have the final say on the DP vs Life w/o parole, regardless of the jury's vote?

IDK about in Florida, but in this state he could. I doubt he would. He is pro-DP, he may see this as a case that DP is proper. They were better off with Judge S, he may have left it at LWOP.

I don't see the jurors giving her DP though, especially 2 that seem to be more followers than thinkers.

OK - I am still stuck on the bad juror that was picked last week, after JB and team claimed racial bias by the state.

From listening to HHJP, it seems that they will be able to use backstriking for any potential juror? Is that right? I am just worried.

To be very clear, once a peremptory has been used on a juror, it cannot be used again, if it failed. Thus, there will be no "backstriking" of the juror they tried to strike previously. She is the first person we know will be on the jury, unless by some miracle, the DT decides they don't want her or something happens between the time she was questioned and the time she is to be seated, that would preclude her for cause.

I doubt we will have a miracle though and I share your concern. In fact, I am deeply concerned that this juror will delay justice. We'll see.

I think that is exactly what is going to happen. I think in the photo someone posted just a bit ago of ICA rubbing her hands, I think she was using sanitizer. AF needs to be sitting off to herself or just not be there. This trial doesn't need any more disasters than it has had!! :banghead:

You need to have a heartbeat to catch a bug. Nothing but ice-water running through ICA's veins....

I thought of that yesterday - does she HAVE to sit right next ti ICA/ ICA keeps trying to yak at her - I'm suspicious she's trying to catch AF's illness.

I wonder if that was the woman with older children (52,etc) .

We are still at a disadvantage ,not being able to see these jurors and their facial expressions/body language.

I'd like some brie with my whine ,please:innocent:

I'm using the fact that we can't see them to my advantage. Sometimes your instinct tells you more than your eyes does. By listening instead of seeing, you get a better understanding of the person 'inside'. I'm not so much on their facial expressions as I am about their motivations.

Anyone know the juror count?

How many left to question today?

How many for next round?

Sorry, been working, real work, boss just left briefly.

TIA

It seems the defence does not want anyone sitting on the jury who is educated, ..they seem to want jurors who are inclined to listen to testimony with emotion, rather then facts.

Where as the prosecution want jurors who will think rationally, and use science to factor in their decision making.

The elderly lady from last week has me very concerned. Her lack of socialism may cause her to want to strike out at the rest of the jury panel and simply be difficult because she seems to have a lack of trust towards others.

I do hope the prosecution is still able to strike her, due to lack of understanding the complex testimony she is about to hear from witnesses, law enforcement, scientists. etc.

MOO

I would love to know the answer to that, also. Very good point.

Thank you Luv! I'm going to go read the morning thread so I can catch up! Hate these time differences---many thanks!

I'm following from ye olde workplace today, so thanks for all the posts!

Just had to bring this over...

JB: All the coverage about my client has been bad, we don't think she could have formed any other opinion.

Uhhhhh...ya think? Wait, how many days was that? Thirty one? That would be because of your client there Mr Baez, not any other reason. Of course Mr Baez isn't above using the media for his own ends either, but he seems to conveniently forget that when he's protesting.

And hello to my Brit cousin Tricksy! My people are from the Northern Isles of Scotland, either Orkney or Shetland, somewhere up around there, besides a few other places, like Manchester and Gargrave.

OT.....I am having a California pizza Kitchen white pizza for lunch. Jealous?

Just couldn't do the buffet today.

Yes, to strike based on gender is unconstitutional.

Given they could have used their strikes in this last level of questioning, do we think there's really going to be a frenzy of strikes? I'm not feeling like there will be, but what do I know? LOL

I believe there will be a frenzy of strikes until they are satisfied or have used them all up.
