Pink, with all due respect, lots of children in this area don't regularly see a doctor for ongoing care. If a social worker came in and asked about a doctor, they would get laughed at. It's unfortunate, but it's reality. I can tell you I grew up in Caldwell County and I didn't see a dentist until I was 22 years old. My parents used to tell me I better not get hurt because if they took me to the ER, I would get turned away for not having insurance (obviously not true, but you get the idea). We had to have our immunizations done at school because otherwise, there was no way to make parents take their kids to get immunized. The only time I saw a doctor between the ages of 10 and 17 was when I stepped on a rusty nail. My dad is buddies with the doctor so he gets discounts, so he made me wait until the next day when our PCP was open. And I'm certainly not the only one.

I know many children don't see a doctor regularly, and that's not necessarily an indication of parental neglect, if the child doesn't haven't any obvious health problems. But a young, growing child with a partially missing leg is different. Such a child definitely needs to see a health care professional at least a couple of times a year, for adjustments or replacement of the prosthetic, to avoid permanent orthopedic damage. Where there is any glaringly obvious medical condition, a DSS worker can and should inquire about whether appropriate medical treatment is being provided, and confirm any information they get in response.

In Zahra's case, the inquiry should have quickly yielded the information that the reason for the missing leg was cancer, and that absolutely requires ongoing monitoring by an oncologist, in addition to an orthopedic specialist to ensure appropriate fit of the prosthetic. DSS workers can't be expected to dig into things they can't see in a normal, initial visit, but missing legs? Yeah, *that* they should definitely be expected to dig into.

Based on MSM and based on who MSM questions on his cooperating. Burke Co sheriff said he isn't. Hickory police says he is.

‘‘We have been in contact with him and each time he has been co-operative,’’ Major Deal said. (Hickory Police)

Police: Father of missing N.C. girl not cooperative

"He seems concerned. I don't know how sincere his concern is," Burke County, N.C., Sheriff John McDevitt told ABC.

McDevitt was asked whether he believed Adam Baker and he responded, "I don't."

So we've got Hickory Police Chief vs County Sheriff?

The ransom note was on the windshield, not in the car. Why not just use the note to start the fire, if she didn't want it discovered? Or toss it in the brush fire once it started?

I believe it was reported as being on the windshield originally, but the reports on the search warrant clarified that it was on the inside of the windshield. I will see if I can find where I read that.

It could be that her hair was finally growing back in after all her treatments.

In the video for her hearing aids she had lots of hair. She lost her hearing due to the treatments so she had already grown her hair back and it was recently cut like that. It's cut short in the more recent photos of her sitting in front of a sheet too. Where other photos of her with the family (after cancer) show her with plenty of hair as well.

I loved her hair and I can only imagine she enjoyed having hair back after her cancer treatments as well. So it's sad to see it hacked like that.

Well that photo taken on mobile was shot about 2mths ago...what did her hair look like in that?

IIRC the one with black eye? Her hair was hidden, a bandanna was wrapped around her head......I thought that was odd............

Growing up with a nurse for a mom, I hardly EVER went to the doc... It had it's pluses and minues. lol

sorry just noticed the slang question was answered about 5 times.....

I have just got to say after seeing the last photo of stepmum and reading that she was into witchcraft, and a drug dealer who would send out a posse to get money not paid...and the fact she is obviously a compulsive liar with the bounty hunter, police officer story...........more aussie slang...

Mate Adam certainly didnt win the first prize in the chook raffle with this catch!!!!!

Also to clarify......Giru.......my hometown is certainly not in the outback......in fact this town floods nearly every year......is known for it......it is in fact at the beginning of the tropics and has been hit by cyclones a couple of times.....I know I was there through one....

It is based on a river that at the moment has quite a few crocs in it......fishing is a very huge pastime........

so another thing she didnt tell correctly....

My heart is really heavy tonight, as it has been since I saw that Amber alert roll across my screen last Saturday night.

I just want to say to Zahra, I'm so sorry you weren't better taken care of here in North Carolina. I lived in Hickory from the age of 5 to 8, and it was a great town to grow up in. I so wish you could have that same experience, the childhood you deserve.

NC is a wonderful place - after college I left to live places more "exotic," but I realized I'd left the greatest place and thankfully found my way back.

Another place I love, after spending 2 weeks there, is Australia. The people are amazing, funny, wonderful, warm. The country is beautiful. I fell in love with Australia.

To everyone there in AU, I hope you know how sad and angry we are about what has happened to dear Zahra.

The whole witchcraft thing is probably another big fat lie, just to try and impress or scare people. I'd take it with a grain of salt.

Just because you have a couple knicknacks that are demonish , listen to Rob Zombie and die your hair black doesn't make you a witch.

They just playing "good cop" and "bad cop" with AB.

Aussie slang: you've got two chances buckley's and none
Buckley's and none, (humorous) two chances amounting to next to no chance.

Nauru: Island off Australia where the Gov has been detaining refugee people that are on their way to Australia from Asia. They never even touch Australian soil but are taken directly to the island - this facility is not in use at the moment

THe Gov should have sent her there and never let her in ..

Just what if Z began having symptoms that the cancer had returned. Dad and stepmom knew they had no $$ to take her to the doctors so she could be cared for properly so they told school she would not be returning, moved, kept her inside so no one could see her deteriorate. Then she passed and they hid what really happened from the outside world and got rid of her on their own. Just a thought.

What in the world did any man ever see in this woman?
What hold does she get over them?
Why did adam go across the world to be with her?
The other husbands are lucky, they divorced her!
But adam is staying by her???
WHY???

NG is saying the search has honed in on a wood pile and that searchers are down on their hands and knees. Take it for what its worth - first I've heard of "hands and knees"
