Stacy Peterson's sister calls upcoming movie a waste

"Cassandra Cales still goes out in search of her sister's body. Even now, the tips trickle in, through email, Myspace, Facebook, findstacypeterson.net.

A few days ago, a woman reported that she had spied a blue barrel near a walking path, the kind of barrel some people suspect Drew Peterson used to smuggle Stacy's body away.

Cales went to look, but it was just an ordinary blue trash can, unsealed and empty.

Each time Cales follows a tip, she's snapped back to the day in 2007 that Stacy disappeared. She follows the leads anyway, despite each fresh flush of sick bewilderment and each new disappointment.

"If somebody says, 'I'm a psychic and your sister's under this rock,'" she said by phone Thursday, "I'll go look."

Most of us are idle spectators in the long drama of Drew Peterson, the former Bolingbrook cop who's in jail on charges of murdering his third wife, Kathleen Savio, and whose fourth wife, Stacy Peterson, vanished.

We laugh at the news that Drew's story will soon be polished into a TV movie starring Rob Lowe. Pretty boy Rob as beefy buffoon Drew? We snort and do alternative casting: Randy Quaid? Jim Belushi? Meanwhile, Drew cracks that he'd prefer Denzel Washington.

For Cales, it's no joke."

Drew Peterson said to be pleased by Anthony verdict
Ex-cop heard the news through jailhouse grapevine, lawyer says

"Among those encouraged last week when a Florida jury found Casey Anthony not guilty of murder was none other than Drew Peterson, who quickly heard the news through the jailhouse grapevine, his attorney said.

Joel Brodsky said his client, held for more than two years on charges that he drowned his third wife, was pleased that jurors in the high-profile case based their decision solely on the evidence.

"The jury is not to judge people morally; it's to judge whether there is sufficient evidence," Brodsky said. "There was more evidence against Casey Anthony — circumstantial evidence — than there is against Drew Peterson. It's good to see a jury do the correct thing."

"...Greenberg said he doesn't expect the case to go to trial until next year. If the higher court's ruling goes against them, Brodsky said his side won't appeal.

"We're primed and ready to go," Brodsky said."

"Lawyers for Drew Peterson are demanding that filming be halted on a made-for-TV movie about the former cop, arguing it invades his privacy and is nothing more than a "character assassination" that would "prejudice any potential jury pool."

The lawyers ask the makers of the movie to "cease and desist" all work on the movie by Friday or face legal action."

""Please govern your conduct accordingly," attorney Walter Maksym ends his seven-page letter to Lifetime Entertainment, A&E Television Networks, Disney and others."

Drew Peterson case heading to the Supreme Court

"A Will County Judge kicked out eight of 14 damning hearsay statements prosecutors want to use against accused wife-killer Drew Peterson. The appellate court agreed to keep them out. And now Will County State’s Attorney James Glasgow is going to the state supreme court in a last ditch effort to get them spoken aloud at Peterson’s murder trial.

Glasgow filed his petition to appeal to the Illinois Supreme Court Friday, asking the state’s top judges to overturn a decision on hearsay evidence made by now retired Will County Judge Stephen White in 2010."

Lawyer: Peterson a ‘hostage’ of prosecutors’ court appeals

"CHICAGO — Drew Peterson’s attorneys have asked the Illinois State Supreme Court to order the former police officer released from jail where he has been held for more than two years on charges of murdering his third wife, saying prosecutors’ appeal to the same court over hearsay evidence has violated his right to a speedy trial.

“It’s a matter of fundamental fairness,” said the 57-year-old Peterson’s lead attorney Joel Brodsky, who said he mailed the appeal to the court Monday night.

Peterson, a retired Bolingbrook police sergeant, has been in jail since 2009.

His trial in the drowning death of ex-wife Kathleen Savio, originally scheduled to begin in July of last year, has been on hold since prosecutors appealed a judge’s decision to bar them from presenting statements Savio allegedly made about him before her body was discovered in a dry bathtub in 2004.

After prosecutors announced the appeal, Will County Circuit Judge Stephen White ruled there were “compelling reasons” not to reduce Peterson’s $20 million bond. "

"On Saturday, the first of October, people will gather all over the country for the beginning of National Domestic Awareness Month. For the third year the Guardian Angels Community Service agency’s domestic violence program, Groundwork, has organized a 5k walk to honor the victims of violence, bring awareness to the community, and to raise funds for their programs.

Team Missing Stacy Peterson will be walking again this year to remind the Chicago area and the nation that the lives of those in violent situations matter. The team hopes to be the voice for a woman who has been silenced, and to show their commitment to all victims by helping the Groundwork program keep their services available. Drew Peterson calls Rob Lowe's portrayal of him 'hysterical'

"Sitting inside the Will County jail this afternoon, Drew Peterson watched an advance copy of a made-for-TV about his life and, according to his lawyer, had one overriding response to Rob Lowe’s portrayal of him while sporting a mustache: “Hysterical.”

"He thought it was hysterical," said Joel Brodsky, Peterson's lead defense attorney. "He chuckled at all of the inaccuracies and things that never happened."
