Arrest warrant obtained for 21-year-old Brian Bouchard

DeLAND, Fla. -
Volusia County deputies were searching Thursday for a man they said abused a 14-month-old so severely it (he) is in the hospital with critical head trauma.

....... The child was later transferred to Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children in Orlando.

Investigators said they aren’t sure exactly what Bouchard did to inflict the injuries, but they said they are certain the injuries couldn’t have occurred from an accidental fall or by dropping the child, as Bouchard said.
------

Bouchard lives with the child’s mother and was caring for the boy at the time, deputies said. The mother was at work when deputies arrived.

It gets even better.

It is not clear how the baby suffered the severe life-threatening injuries as Bouchard changed his story of how Isaiah was hurt, but the suspect gave details of the child's injuries.

Bouchard -- who said he'd consumed two beers that night -- initially told Investigator William Maxwell the child fell from an 18-inch-high step and hit his head on a bassinet pad. He said the child asked for a fruit juice after the fall and, as the boy ran toward the driveway, he tripped again on a metal strip and fell forward on the concrete floor, struck his forehead and flipped over, landing on his back, the reports states.

Bouchard said he quickly picked up the small boy, who vomited on his shirt, then he saw the child's eyes roll back. The toddler vomited some more in a bathtub as Bouchard splashed water on him, investigators said.

That poor baby! It sounds like he has had a lot of battering and abuse. I'll bet this wasn't the first time either. The abuser was already on probation for a previous crime and the mother still trusted him to watch the baby. So very sad. I hope the child will recover and without lasting brain damage. And the abuser needs to spend the rest of his life in prison.
