Day 8 - Statement by Kyron Horman's Step-father at 1:00 p.m. Media Briefing - 06/11/10

On Friday, June 11, 2010, the following statement was given by Kyron's step-father at a 1:00 p.m. media briefing at the Brookhill Historical Church across from Skyline Elementary School. A written statement made by Kryon's father is not available for this release:

"Hello, my name is Tony Young, and I am Kyron's step-father. The family has asked me to speak on their behalf.

Kyron – we miss you. We love you. We want and need you home.

We are doing everything we can to work with law enforcement and the search and rescue crews to make sure you can get back to us as soon as possible.

We want to say how much we appreciate the outpouring of love and support – prayers and thoughts – as we wait for you. Your school friends and their families, the teachers and staff at your school, and the community as a whole have shown how much impact one little boy's smile can have.

You mean everything to us, and until you come home, our family is not complete.

Please Kyron – keep up the hope. We believe in you and we know you will be back with us soon."

Police: No indication Oregon boy's disappearance is abduction
June 11, 2010 5:24 p.m. EDT

"There's just no indication on anything we've got at this point that it was an abduction," Multnomah County Sheriff Dan Staton told CNN. "The child is still characterized as a missing child."

snip

"The last time this child was seen was inside the school and was never seen leaving the school," Staton told CNN. "There was nothing to indicate any kind of disruption inside the school. This is why it's so concerning to us."

snip

"We've got investigators that are looking at every aspect; looking at every area of criminal categories," Staton said. "At this point, it hasn't reached the level that we are looking at this as a crime."

Staton also praised Kyron's family for what he called being extremely cooperative.

"Based on the dynamics," Staton said, "people respond to this differently. Nothing unusual to the way they are responding to this."

Kyron Horman went missing Friday, June 4.

This is a timeline of events. The Oregonian's reporters and editors will adjust this account over time to add and adjust information.

Searchers have declined to provide some details of the investigation, including when school officials marked Kyron Horman absent on June 4. Here's a basic look at what happened on the day the second-grader disappeared from Skyline School and the following days:

As the haze lifted from the pockets of forest along Skyline Road this morning, search and rescue teams prepared for another day of looking for missing 7-year-old Kyron Horman.

Search teams began combing the steep grassy hillside along Oregon 30 and the rail line beside it.

A steady stream of sheriff's vehicles from across the state poured into the base camp early this morning, as teams moved from the mothballed Wapato jail — where they are sleeping — to the staging area on Northwest Quarry Road.

The family of Kyron has been nothing less than completely cooperative with our investigative process. At this point we are getting a ton of information from them that helps us very much in continuing this search for Kyron. LE

June 6 News Conference - Deputies 'No Closer' To Finding Boy

- The last time he was seen was here at the school, and that was on Friday about late, a late hour in the morning was the last time he was actually seen here at the school. Since that time we've developed no other additional information that's indicated that he was here beyond that point after our interviews with the children.

- He was seen not, he was seen near his classroom, and the last point was down at the south entrance door of the school.

- Actually that statement came from one of the children that was here earlier this morning that was interviewed.

- In this situation, I think everyone is of interest to us.

June 10 - Four o'clock - Transcription - why LE is not releasing more information:
Our investigation at this point remains ongoing. I realize that at earlier briefings Captain Gates has not able to answer all of your questions regarding the investigative portion of this operation. I do want to reiterate that we don't release many details of an ongoing investigation for a number of reasons. Early release of information can affect the operation and integrity of the investigation. New and incoming information is often unconfirmed and needs substantiation prior to release. Misleading information can harm both search efforts and the investigation. If there is information that will cause community participation that will aid in search and rescue efforts, we will bring that information forward.
