nothing for the other two. something is going on with Hilt.

Time will tell, but I think Calbeck and Mattox are going to try and save themselves from a harsh sentence, and if they have to do it by ratting out Hilt, that's what will happen, IMO.

They are all guilty, IMO, so I don't understand what Hilt thinks he has to gain by not admitting his role in her death. The other two will benefit from this decision.

I also wonder if the State will upgrade the charges against Hilt to CM. That might cause him to sing a different tune.

03/01/2010 SUBPOENA ISSUED TO DA 1

I saw this one when I was there. I don't see anything in my notes. It must have been nothing, or I would have written something down. I'll double check this next week when I go out there again.

I went out to the courthouse today to look at the documents. There were only a few documents attached to this case. I found that to be surprising considering how many documents were available on the Hall case. Do understand that I have zero law background, so I may be misunderstanding what these docs are saying. Some of this may have previously been mentioned here, but I’ll post what I found in the docs.

The longest filing had to do with the jurisdiction issue. The defense argued that unless the state can show that the crime was committed in Kansas, then it should be moved to MO. The defense is saying that Keighley went willingly with these guys, so she wasn't "kidnapped" in Kansas. The defense states that it’s only “theory” that Keighley was kidnapped in Kansas. The state disagrees.

I'm not sure why the defense wants the case tried in MO, unless they believe they'll get a more favorable jury there. MO will put them to death, so I don't understand why they'd want to cross state lines on this (if the charges are upgraded to the DP). Even though Kansas has the DP, no one has been put to death since the mid-60's. Kansas does not have the insanity plea, so maybe that has something to do with this, or maybe the defense is just going through the motions. There is also the Feds to consider, but the defense is maintaining that no crime was committed in Kansas.

The state has video footage from a Quik Trip (on Roe, I think) where they are all shown together. A couple of the others meet up with Keighley and Hilt there. I need to go back and check this again. My notes don't make sense. It says that Keighley, Hilt and someone else are at the Quick Trip and two others arrive. That makes a total of 5. This could be an error on my part, so I'll go back and take a look at this again.

The state also said that they have sufficient evidence that Hilt and his co-conspirators committed criminal acts in KS. The state didn't elaborate on what this evidence was ... or not that I saw. I should have printed this off, but I was too cheap to spend fifty cents a page.

The state found blood in her trunk and in the car. They found a bloody jacket that had cut marks on it, in the trunk. While in the trunk, Keighley pulled the tail light connectors out, which is how they knew she was alive in the trunk.

Received subpoenas: (all to testify for the plaintiff)
Shawn Merritt (3/2) Appear on 3/8/10 at 1:00 PM to testify for the plaintiff.
Britteney Atkerson (2/24)
Christopher Scheele (2/24)
Kelsey Bridge (2/24)
Jessica Beebe
Scott Edward Davis
Santos Thompson (3/2) Appear on 3/8/10 at 9:00 AM to testify for the plaintiff.

There are several filings that have to do with the person who is serving the subpoenas.

Santos Thompson's name popped up several places.

On 2/22, a subpoena was issued for business records to the Sheriff's Dept. This has to do with all communication from the jail (visits, phone, etc). On this one Santos Thompson is listed with Hilt, Calbeck and Mattox.

I found some info on Santos Thompson (listed below). It looks like Thompson was in jail for a bit with Hilt and the others. I can’t find where Santos bailed out, but it he may have because I found an amended filing that included “visits” from Santos. That’s posted below this info.

On 2/24, another subpoena was issued. It's identical to the one on the 22nd, except they've added a section that has to do with Santos only. This new subpoena requests all info from his "visits."

Hilt's cell phone carrier is Verizon. The number is a 417 number, which is Springfield/Joplin, MO.

Here are a few things that the state listed...

At 3:45 am, Hilt's cell phone used a cell tower in Cass County.

Last text from Keighley was at 2:55 am.

In the early morning hours Hilt texted Britteney Atkerson that he was down the street from where she lived (in OP) and wanted to see her. This message was sent while Hilt was already in Cass County.

I guess he was trying to alibi himself, but didn't know that his cell phone pings would be picked up and tell his true location.

I personally think these guys are all toast. I was just surprised when I found how skimpy the documents were on this case. That poor little girl. I hope justice is served...

I only had an hour this time, but next time I'll try and go when I have a little bit more time to spend looking at the info.

luvbeaches - Thank you so much for going to the courthouse and letting us know what you learned! I can't wait to see what happens next. These guys are a bunch of idiots. Guess that's not much of a surprise!
