So if she was suffering so badly and if she was in such danger of suffering such abberent or criminal behavior, why was she still teaching? Shouldn't she have taken a leave of absence while she was suffering so badly? Maybe applied for disability?

I love the way an attorney can spin things. In this case her 'condition' is being used as a defense. In other cases it might be used as a tool against someone.
