Overland Park police continued today to push for the public’s help in locating missing teenager Keighley Ann Alyea.

This evening, they located a 22-year-old man they wanted to interview about Alyea’s disappearance. The man’s car had broken down at Interstate 70 and 18th Street Expressway.

Police talked to the man, whose relationship to Alyea was not released, to see whether he had any useful information. But the man has been released in connection with the girl’s case, according to Overland Park Police Public Information Officer Jim Weaver, who declined to provide further details of the police interview.

There are no new leads in the case, Weaver said.

Police have released photos of Alyea’s car, a dark green four-door Mazda 626 with Kansas license plate 198 BOV.

Family, friends fan out to find missing Overland Park teen

Alyea’s family is worried sick, Frentrop said. “She would get on the Internet every single day and talk to people on Facebook and talk to people on her phone and text people,” Frentrop said. “She talked to her mom and dad every single day. She talked to my daughter almost every single day through texting and whatnot.

“Then everything stopped.”

About 6 p.m. Sunday, a patrol officer found Alyea’s unoccupied 1993 dark green Mazda 626 parked on the street in the 6200 block of Marty Lane in Overland Park, said Overland Park Police Public Information Officer Jim Weaver. The car has been towed so that authorities could search the vehicle for possible evidence.

There was no indication how long Alyea’s car had been parked there, Weaver said.

Police said over the weekend that they wanted to interview a 22-year-old man. They found him Sunday after his car broke down at Interstate 70 and 18th Street Expressway.

Police talked to the man, whose relationship to Alyea was not disclosed, to see whether he had any useful information, but Weaver declined to provide details of the interview.

Keighley Alyea Latest: Missing Teen's Family & Friends Pass Out Flyers
October 5, 2009
<snipped>
The family of an Overland Park teenager, missing for six days, is circulating flyers in hopes someone will provide information police need to find Keighley Alyea.

On Sunday, police found Keighley's car at 62nd and Foster in Overland Park. Police have questioned a couple of people about Keighley's disappearance, including her former boyfriend. They say they're still trying to talk to other people who know the girl.

Friends and family members of Keighley Alyea, 18, began passing out 4,000 flyers seeking information about the missing teen near the apartments where police found the girl's car on Monday.

"Police have made it very clear they don't care who comes forth with information. Even if that person has a warrant or anything, don't be scared to come forward and give us that information," said James "Pat" Hayes.

The girl's parents fear foul play because they say her cellphone hasn't been used since she disappeared, and it's turned off. Her mom says Keighley would send multiple text messages every day.

"It's just not like Keighley to fall off the face of the Earth," said Kelley Bastel. "I mean, to not call anyone! Get into contact with phone or someone around here. She's one of the people, she can't be alone. She has to have someone sleep with her at night. She has to be around people."

Police said Keighley was last seen late Tuesday night. Her mom said she had taken in a friend, Jessica Beebe, because Jessica had gotten into a violent fight with her brother, James Beebe. James Beebe also happens to be Keighley's former boyfriend.

According to Keighley's mom, Jessica Beebe claims when she woke up in the morning, Keighley was gone.

Police have questioned James Beebe, and he was out helping pass out flyers. But, Keighley's mom said her daughter was afraid of James Beebe.

Missing Teen's Car Found, Search Continues for Keighley Alyea
October 3, 2009
<snipped>
Friends have launched a Facebook page for Alyea, hoping that it will help bring her home.

Keighley's mother, Kelly Bastel, who lives in the Ozarks, said it's not like her daughter to leave for long periods of time.

"It's not like Keighley," she said. "Keighley loves her family. She's a person that can't live without contact."

Police said they fear Alyea may be in danger. Just last week she was involved in a domestic violence incident with an ex-boyfriend and another individual.

"She's been a victim of violence in the past, so we want to make absolutely sure she's okay," said Overland Park police captain, Jim Weaver.

The ex-boyfriend was arrested and released. Over the weekend, police revisited the ex-boyfriend and questioned him about Alyea's disappearance.

On Saturday morning police went to the home of Jaymes Beebe. He said they have the wrong man if they're trying to pin Alyea's disappearance on him.

"They're calling me a suspect," he said. "They came here at five in the morning with my house surrounded. That makes me look like a suspect."

But by late Saturday afternoon, police dropped Beebe from the suspect list.

Beebe said Alyea's disappearance is overblown.

"She's trying to get attention," he said. "That's how she is. She's an attention getter. She messed up with a lot of people where nobody wants to talk with her anymore."

But Alyea's mother said all she knows is that her daughter is gone and she wants her home.

"I just picture her walking through the door," said Bastel. "I just want a phone call."

Alyea's father said he wants the same thing.

Overland Park police located Keighley Alyea's 1993 green Mazda 626 parked unoccupied on the street in the 6200 block of Marty. Police towed the car so they could process the vehicle for evidence.

Police said they interviewed Sean Merritt in connection to Alyea's disappearance.

"We don't know if shes decided to leave on her own or what," Overland Park police representative Jim Weaver said. "We want to find her and make sure she's safe and secure. And that the family knows that, too."

Alyea and her vehicle were last spotted at her home at an apartment complex near 87th Street and Santa Fe Road. Police said time is starting to play a factor in the investigation. sot with weaver "We probably take three or four missing persons reports a week," Weaver said. "This is a little different. She has not contacted her family that we know of, or friends. And that's certainly concerning to us."

Police cleared two individuals in Alyea's disappearance, James Beebe and Dustin Hilt. OP police said Beebe was involved in a domestic violence situation with Alyea. None of the three men questioned by police have been charged.

Man questioned in Keighley Ann Alyea disappearance being held in JoCo jail on 2007 warrant
Mon., Oct. 5 2009 @ 4:36PM
<snipped>
A man questioned Sunday in the disappearance of 18-year-old Keighley Ann Alyea is still being held in the Johnson County jail on a 2007 warrant for telephone harassment.

Sean Michael Merritt, 22, is being held for failure to appear on the charges with a $25,000 bond.

Overland Park police questioned Merritt on Sunday, but few details have been released. Police say they took information from Merritt and were tracking other leads.

Overland Park police spokesman Jim Weaver tells The Pitch that the car is being processed for evidence and that should be done by the end of the day. However, whatever the police find likely won't be made public unless the Johnson County District Attorney's office gets involved.

Police have already questioned two men -- Jaymes Beebe and Dustin Hilt -- but released both after questioning. Beebe was being held in the Johnson County jail on a prior disorderly conduct warrant, but he bonded out the same day -- September 29 -- that he was brought in.

Alyea's family has started a "Bring Keighley Ann Alyea Home!" Facebook page. They're also collecting money through all Kansas City branches of Commerce Bank for a reward. Alyea's uncle Ed Frentrop tells The Pitch that they're already collected $2,000.

Frentrop also tells The Pitch that he's heard that everyone questioned is being swabbed for DNA. He also says that when Beebe showed up to help with a canvas, he was told to go home.

Alyea's friends and family don't believe she had a boyfriend at the time of her disappearance. They say she was living in an apartment in Overland Park, working at an Arby's and taking classes at Johnson County Community College. They also say it's totally out of character for Alyea to not be in contact with her family and friends for so long

Family, Friends Look For Missing Teen
18-Year-Old Has Been Missing Since Tuesday
POSTED: 4:09 pm CDT October 5, 2009
UPDATED: 5:55 pm CDT October 5, 2009

Family and friends were canvassing the area Monday afternoon handing out fliers as they search to find Keighley Alyea.

Alyea's abandoned car was found Sunday night at an apartment complex in northern Overland Park. She disappeared six days ago. Her cell phone has not been used since she disappeared last Tuesday.

On Monday, Alyea's family and friends came out to where police found her car and began going door to door handing out fliers.

Police told the family that Alyea's cell phone hadn't been used since her disappearance, a fact that seems strange to her mother since they text messaged or talked almost every day.

Thanks to those who started this thread. I live less than 3 hours away from OP, Kansas and had heard nothing at all about this case before the last hour or two that it has been on WS. My husband at one time (almost 30 years ago) lived about 2 or 3 miles away from where they have located her car as of yesterday. It is just this evening being reported on our local news here in my town. I can try to answer any questions anyone might have on the city or the area they are looking for her in, as I am somewhat familiar with all of that area. It is just a few miles from where Kelsey Smith was kidnapped, but a completely different area in terms of demographics, and obviously not related to that case in any way.

Keighley's body has been found. As it turns out, important evidence was found at a home down the street from where I grew up.

Keighley's body has been found. As it turns out, important evidence was found at a home down the street from where I grew up.

Oh no... I was hoping she was ok. So sad.

Somehow I feared that I would check in this morning and read this news. I was worried when the parents were called into the station last night during the last part of NG.

My heart is full of sadness for her parents and every one who loves her. I have a daughter this age and it's just too painful to imagine how empty this has left them.
Many prayers of peace for this family but most of all the wisdom and guidance for all that is to come in their path to justice.

Geezus, 3 of them arrested?

I'm not sure if I feel like crying or cursing right now. A bit of both. Such a beautiful girl.

RIP Keighley Alyea.
