The second article states that he worked not only in the El Paso ISD but also the Ysleta Independent School District (YISD). He participated in youth summer programs sponsered by Viva El Paso.

For those that are unfamiliar with EP. There are up to five (IIRC, I can't remember for sure the exact number) Independent School Districts that you can register your children with when you live in EP. (at least that's how it was when we live at the military instillation there). Just an aside. JMHO.

The fact that at least some of his relatives support him, that can be expected. No matter what someone does, in most cases when the relatives are interviewed, all we hear that he is a such a good boy...
But the parents of some of the children that he was teaching were supporting him (there is an article on this earlier on this thread)-now that I don't get at all.

I'm always complaining to my husband about reporters asking the relatives of some perp for their two cents because you're absolutely right jjenny - they inevitably say "Oh, he'd never do such a thing!" and how he's such an upstanding citizen/choir boy/good son. ONCE, just ONCE I'd like to hear them say, "Well, we always knew he'd come to no good, what with being in and out of trouble since he learned to walk, so this is no big surprise."

You know, Adolf Hitler was reportedly very, very kind to animals. BIG DEAL. I guess his aunt would have suggested we give him a pass, too.

Frankly, if the reports about this sicko's claims of being molested himself as a child, then it adds a whole new creepy dimension to his aunt's bizarre commentary. I wonder if there's a history of child molestation permeating this family and this isn't the first time they've chosen to try and sweep the ugliness under the rug. Very, very disturbing.:furious:

Reportedly, Alferez has made a comment about being molested as a child.

And THANK YOU MODS FOR CHANGING OUR THREAD TITLE!!! That's calling it like it is and refusing to fall into the trap of repeating what the media says. With all due respect to Filly as she used the words the media was using.

My suggestion is to fire off a short email each and every time you see words which minimize this crime. When's the last time a reporter wrote a headline which said "Boy Hurt by Gang Members"?

'[ICE Agent Gilbert] Campa also testified that Alferez admitted being sexually abused as a child and expressed relief at his arrest.

"He said he couldn't stop doing what he was doing," Campa said from the witness stand.

and

"....[Alferez's attorney] Kimmelman argued that Alferez would be able to stay with his parents without access to computers, but [Senior U.S. Magistrate Judge Richard] Mesa ruled that although there was no specific testimony about how long the alleged conduct had been going on, the amount of videos found in Alferez's possession proved that the conduct was a "long-standing practice."

After Mesa denied bond to Alferez, several of Alferez's students, friends and family members in the courtroom began to cry quietly. As they filed out of the courtroom, one student called Mesa's ruling unfair....."

Thank you, Judge Mesa!!! Finally a judge who grasps the immensity of a case and the danger of absconding.

And let's please stop for a moment and really think about the reactions of family and friends. I hope (I really do) that they were crying out of desperate sadness for the victims and for the destruction of a promising career. I pray that they truly do not agree with the young misguided student who thinks that denying bail was unfair. I have not a single doubt that Alferez must have used threats on some of his victims after reading how the children tried to get away during the rapes. They were not compliant. They must be terrified.

We need to remember that Dr. Emilio Luna of Phoenix disappeared during an approved church visit within a couple of days after his release to house arrest. He too, was supposed to stay with his parents and was ordered to stay away from computers. Where is he today?

For the District to fire Alferez prior to conviction tells me that the evidence is overwhelming and the confession most likely will hold up in court. This is actually an usual move for a school board as they can/would be sued if they terminated improperly. I'm sure the citizens of El Paso are pleased. Not so sure about his family and staunch supporters.

and

"....Alferez or his legal representatives can fight the board's decision. He will have 10 working days to let the Texas Education Agency that he wants to keep his job. Former School Teacher Faces 5 Child *advertiser censored* Counts

"KFOX has just obtained the federal indictment against Marco Alferez, the former Irvin High School teacher arrested on suspicion of owning child *advertiser censored* and having sex with a minor in his home.

Alferez is facing five counts in federal court, including one count of sexual exploitation of children, two counts of receipt/distribution of material involving the sexual exploitation of children and two counts of possession of material involving the sexual exploitation of children.

The government demanded a laundry list of Alferez's possessions, such as 10 cameras including a webcam, two mini pinhole cameras and one mini spy camera...."

Another witness, Special Agent Victor Sanchez Jr., a criminal forensic investigator with ICE's Cyber Crimes Group, testified that on Aug. 23 agents found 98 videos of child *advertiser censored*, including videos of children identified by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.

Wow! Wonder what that means???

Noexcuse--I think it could mean a couple of things. Either Alferez had in his possession films with children who have already been identified by authorities OR that they've finally determined who made those films.

I'm a little confused as initially LE stated that this guy had scores of victims. I'm not reading that in the documents, though. I'm sure they're still working on the paperwork.

NCMEC has a special team of analysts (Child Victim Identification Program (CVIP)) that maintains a database of child *advertiser censored* victims & perps...they work w/ ICE, ICAC, FBI, USPIS, etc...(they also have a Cyber tipline to report sexual abuse of children & child *advertiser censored*)...so I think that's why the ICE investigator could say that NCMEC helped ID the children.

Can you imagine doing that job? Looking at child *advertiser censored* day in & day out?

I remember reading an article not so long ago that said that detectives who worked on CP cases were the most stressed out & prone to depression in LE....I think too many people don't realize the violence in CP...Bless the men & women who can do this job.

He was really pushing the envelope. He's a sick one......

Court Documents: Former Teacher Made Child *advertiser censored* at School

"Documents filed last Friday in federal court allege former Irvin High School dance teacher Marco Alferez, 34, made child *advertiser censored* on a school campus.

Alferez is accused of having what is known as 'commercial' child *advertiser censored* along with 182 homemade videos on his home computer. Federal agents say they also found 107 8mm tapes and 14 VHS tapes.

and

"......prosecutors allege in "at least two video segments," Alferez is seen "having sexual intercourse with young girls - one time at his home and another time on school property...."

Oh, how I hope that the judge holds firm against bail!! If they let him out, he will be "gone with the wind" just as Dr. Emilio Luna was a couple of months ago. Can you imagine how terrified his young victims would be? He think he needs psychological treatment??? How about those little girls?

Denial of bond is appealed in ex-teacher's child-*advertiser censored* case

"The lawyer for a former Irvin High School teacher facing child *advertiser censored* charges is appealing a federal judge's decision denying bond.

Agents with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement arrested Marco Alferez, 34, in September on suspicion of downloading hundreds of videos depicting child *advertiser censored*.

Alferez was later indicted on charges of sexual exploitation of children, receipt/distribution of material involving the sexual exploitation of children and possession of material involving the sexual exploitation of children. He has pleaded not guilty.

During Alferez's detention hearing in September, Senior U.S. Magistrate Judge Richard Mesa denied Alferez bond, and ordered that he remain jailed until his trial date. In a court motion filed Monday, Alferez's attorney, David Kimmelman, asked U.S. District Judge Kathleen Cardone to set a bond for Alferez so that he may receive "psychological treatment for any issues that he may have....."

and

"....Kimmelman also states that Alferez, who was born and raised in El Paso, isn't a flight risk or a danger to the community....."

His attorney can actually make that statement while making eye contact with the judge? Truly? And let's all remember that Alferez, himself, expressed relief that he'd been caught. Is he changing his mind? I'm very afraid that he's not hankering to seek therapy but to pick up where he left off.

Alferez also taught dance at Austin High School and taught at Le Barron Park Elementary School in the YISD...."

Please, please don't let him out. I wonder where his family is getting all the money for the attorneys?

A plea agreement is on the table:

Alferez Reaches Plea Deal
July 27, 2011

"Former Irvin High dance teacher Marco Alferez has reached a plea agreement with prosecutors. Alferez was a role model for student dancers not only at Irvin High, but in Viva! El Paso. But that image was destroyed ten months ago, when ICE arrested him, saying they found hundreds of homemade videos of child *advertiser censored*, including girls undressing on camera and two videos of him having sex with minors, on his computer...."

and

"...In total, 393 victims were found in the videos on his computer. 211 victims were counted on self-produced tapes. The tapes go back as early as 1999, where he's seen having sexual relations with a then 13-year-old girl. After that, he began video-taping students undressing at the schools he taught...."

I wonder what all his supporters are saying now....remember, the ones who reminded us how much good he'd done for the children?

I haven't seen a case where an offender is required to pay back their salary. Good!! I would say he undoubtedly broke the tenets of his contract. More details:

Dance Instructor Enters Plea Agreement In Child *advertiser censored* Case

"...Alferez's attorney, Michael Gibson said his client plans to plead guilty next Tuesday to charges that will carry a penalty of at least 15 years in prison and no more than 30 years in prison, without the possibility of parole...."

and

"...He will also be forced to pay back all the money he earned as a teacher, totaling $233,933. According to the plea documents, $169,908 was his cumulative salary from the El Paso Independent School District. The remainder, $64,025, was what he earned while working for the Ysleta Independent School District. Under the terms of the deal, Alferez will have to register as a sex offender upon release from prison...."

Well, he pleaded guilty. But I swear to pea turkey, does his family not have a clue? With that kind of attitude, I have to wonder how far back this behavior might stretch. Their loved one pleaded guilty to vile crimes and there's video evidence of those crimes and still not a single kind word for the victims?

Marco Alferez Pleads Guilty To Child *advertiser censored* Charges
August 2, 2011

Alferez faces up to 50 years with a minimum of 15 years in prison and $250,000 in fines...."

and

"....Alferez's sister said, "We don't condone his behavior or his actions, but we stand behind him. We're optimistic that this will all be resolved soon." She went on to said he was abused as a child and that he's not the monster he appears to be.

Alferez admitted to exploiting 393 children, including his own students and other children as young as 4 years old in other *advertiser censored* videos shared on the Internet."

Resolved how? 393 children exploited? Then what kind of monster is he then?

I thought we'd heard the last of Alferez....but no. I'm assuming these charges are linked to the fact that Alferez is now appealing and wants to withdraw his federal guilty plea. Looks like the state is getting into position to keep this guy behind bars no matter what.

Almost 400 victims...with video shot at school. This guy was into the thrill factor. No way on God's green earth that he didn't know the EXACT age of each girl. Being underage was the whole point here!!!

Former Irvin High School dance teacher faces new charges
February 11, 2012

"A former Irvin High School dance teacher sentenced last month on federal child *advertiser censored* charges is now facing state charges. A state district court grand jury this week indicted Marco Alferez, 36, on charges of aggravated assault, possession of child *advertiser censored*, produce/direction/promotion of a sexual performance by a child under 14 years of age, and improper photography/visual recording to arouse/gratify.

Last month, a federal judge sentenced Alferez to 50 years in prison. In August, Alferez pleaded guilty to one count of sexual exploitation of children and one count of distributing child *advertiser censored*.

and

"....The documents detailed how Alferez had set up a makeshift dressing room in his office-classroom where students could change clothes, and set up a camera aimed at photographing a child's private areas as they dressed and undressed. In all, 393 victims were identified in the videos. Investigators were unable to identify victims in 17 other videos. Some of the videos featured multiple victims...."

Alferez appeared in court dressed in a white-and-orange-striped suit, with handcuffs and with shackles around his ankles. He was escorted at all times by a prison guard. Alferez is accused of aggravated assault, possession of child *advertiser censored*, produce/ direction/promotion of a sexual performance by a child younger than 14, and improper photography/visual recording to arouse/gratify. Penny Hamilton, chief of the rape and child abuse unit for the district attorney's office, said there were four other victims who were not part of the federal case. I'm tremendously pleased that "Vicky" has received another positive judgement. Nothing can ever compensate that young woman for her pain. However, I'm left wondering if the local victims of this monster are getting an appropriate restitution. $200 and $1140?? That can't be right.

The videos depict Vicky being abused by her father between the ages of 10 and 13. Prosecutors allege Alferez downloaded five videos in the series.
