John Roman, a fellow with the Justice Policy Center at the Urban Institute, analyzed homicides in the U.S. from 2005 to 2009. He found that homicides are twice as likely to be ruled justifiable in stand-your-ground states and that in many incidents police can't arrest shooters and question them in detail, even though interviews are critical in cases like this.

He also pointed out that, according to data by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, 34% of cases involving a white shooter killing a black person were deemed as a justifiable homicide. Meanwhile, in similar situations, when the shooter was black and the victim was white, the homicide was ruled justifiable only 3.3% of the time.

Will jury, or judge, decide George Zimmerman's fate?

The nation's fixation on the shooting death of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin has led many to question whether an impartial jury could be found for the trial of his killer, George Zimmerman.
But it's possible a judge, not a jury, will decide Zimmerman's fate. He says he fired in self-defense, and many expect his lawyers will eventually ask for an immunity hearing under Florida's controversial "stand your ground" law.

Jeffrey Neiman, a former federal prosecutor now in private practice, said cash transactions in excess of $10,000 usually trigger a reporting requirement by the bank to multiple government agencies — including the IRS.

"If Mrs. Zimmerman intentionally structured the financial transactions in a manner to keep the offense under $10,000, not only may she have committed perjury in the state case, but she also may have run afoul of several federal statutes and could face serious federal criminal charges," Neiman wrote in an email to The Associated Press.

Legal analysts speculate that Mrs. Zimmerman's arrest could be used as a tactic by the prosecutors to pressure her husband.

"They can always say, look, we won't prosecute your wife if you decide to plea to some sort of charge," legal analyst Mark Lippman told "Good Morning America" today. He added, "It seems pretty clear to me that this is not something they would do in a normal case."

HIGHLIGHTS

In regard to Media Requests:

Judge Kenneth Lester concluded that George Zimmerman's statements to law enforcement are not confessions, therefore he ordered the statements be released to the public within 15 days.

The judge did not grant the Media request regarding the release of the names of unidentified civilian witnesses.

Lester also ruled: "Tests" performed on Zimmerman can be made public, but most of Zimmerman's phone records will not be.

Emails sent to police about the case will be released but no photos depicting Trayvon's body will be released.

The next hearing in the case is a bond hearing on June 29th.
